Hello,
I'm currently playing the EU server but I am considerung either buying another SC2 copy to play on the US server or completely switch servers via Blizzard Support. I want to do that since I have many friends that don't live in EU who play on the US servers, so I can AT with them.
However, I am concerned about lag issues when playing on the US server since I live in Germany. To the EU-players here who also play on the US server: is there any significant lag or delay?
And is there a way to check the ping to the SC2 EU and US servers, as a way to compare the difference?
Thanks.

Its really not that bad EU to US, you can notice a difference but its playable!

Well, I'm from Bulgaria and have a lot of ping lag, up to 0.5 sec at times, and still can play ok. If you have a good connection (mine is AWFUL), it should be probably not that bad. Test your ping here to: - France, where I think EU servers are located, though I don't know the exact city, - LA, California, where the US servers are and then compare the results and make your own conclusion. Physical proximity doesn't guarantee good ping time and vice versa.

Indeed i used to play something not that wasnt legal a times back ... servers were in france i was in LA but i only had 40 ms in the game in question ....
but in sc2 its more or less 5 to 10 times that still "playable" but not the best ... better play in the zone where you are :p (and for wow its totally unplyable, half a sec delay is like 500 times to much for arena^^)

What game is this in reference to?

I live in Poland and usually play North America server. It really isn't that bad so go for it.

I have 3 friends in the US who play on EU servers and agree that the delay is perfectly playable.

It is basically like when you go to move a unit or build something there is a tiny delay from when you click and when it moves; it is playable however at first it will be really irritating and you would have to get used to it.

Do you konw how to get a US account from the EU?

well, i had a 2nd account and just wrote blizzard support i want it to be on us server. they asked me for some information like cd-key i.e.. 2 hours later i had a brand new account on us server. you need to download the us client though.

im from eu and play on na, and ive never had any lag problems and i dont notice a delay. I guess it depends on your provider. If unsure just run "tracert us.logon.battle.net" to check latency.
|
hi, there's an easy way to check the lag. just download NA starter edition and play a couple of games. I just did that and the lag was practically non-existent. I am from Poland and i have a decent for Polish standards internet connection (wifi 6Mbps).

When playing on my US account from Norway, I get a bit of lag, it's playable, but annoying.
|
Just a thought- if you're unsure you could always download the started edition on the other server and play a couple of games to feel it out.

It is a slight delay, and it is pretty frustrating. But it wont hinder you from playing as good as on EU.
