Hi TL,

I am buying a new wireless router for my fibre network. However there are many stuff that I don't quite get it yet, like dual band and many other things. Is there some site with good collection of information I can read up?

Also, I actually only have a few limited choices, namely Netgear Nighthawk X6, ASUS RT-AC87U, ASUS RT-AC3200, Linksys EA9200, Linksys WRT1200AC. Which would be best for setting up wireless network in a 2-floor apartment for about 5-8 people to use? A Netgear EX6100 WiFi Range Extender can be considered as well since it's also in the discount deal

Thanks much XD

edit: found some pretty detailed review at smallnetbuilder.com. For setting up the router and network, I probably try to position it somewhere in the middle staircase since the house is not big anyway, not sure yet, gotta get my hand on the router to see how strong the signal coverage is

Has someone an idea how I can watch twitch streams on adobe flash or html5 whatever? that chrome thing (pepper flash) always crash my pc (bluescreen). Youtube (html5 or adobe if I want) and all other work flawlessy.

Yes I can watch on opera or ie etc (because whose players are on adobe flash) but...

Edit: in other words I want to watch it in NPAPI because PPAPI always crash my pc.

edit2: problem solved lol
type: chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
activate npapi
relaunch chrome

Do they make power banks that you can leave connected without wearing down the battery? I have no idea what battery technology is like anymore.

There are batteries that you can charge and then carry around and use to charge a bunch of phones, not sure on the details of those

Yeah, my problem is I'm told you can't leave them plugged in and that's pretty much what I need to do because I want to keep them topped off. Then when there's a power outage, they're filled up and ready to save my ass. The one I have currently says in the instruction that you shouldn't leave it plugged in or it'll damage the battery over time, but it also completely loses its charge after a month. It's a 10400mAh thing. Very annoying.

See I recognize that this is the optimal solution but the idea that I could possibly remember is outlandish to me. Even if I wrote it down in my schedule, I would get to it and think "oh yeah that, I'll do that in 15 minutes" and 15 minutes later I'd be doing something completely different.

Hi,
Can I charge my netbook with my main laptop charger ? The laptop use a 19.5V 9.5A charger, while the netbook use a 19V 3,42A.
Thanks in advance !

If the plug is physically and electrically compatible (and they're not doing some kind of sensing or something nonstandard), sure. The difference in voltage there should be within an acceptable tolerance range for the input. If you measure these things, they're not exactly what voltage they claim to be anyway. The extra output capability on the main laptop charger is not a problem.

So it will just charge faster, to the limit of the netbook battery ? I guessed so but I still didn't want to have a melted battery on my desk. Thank you Because 9.5A is a lot I think but I'll believe you anyway :D

EDIT : welp, doesn't work. The plug looks the same but it doesn't charge so I guess it's not totally the same.

If it did work (note that there are a good deal of third-party replacement power adapters for laptops, also "universal" models that come with multiple tips to work with a wide range of laptops, so this is a real possibility in general), it shouldn't charge faster. The battery charging circuit on the battery/laptop side controls how much power is drawn and how fast the charging goes. The max current of the adapter is a rating on its capabilities. It's not so much a hard limit but about what it's designed to handle, assuming the supplier is being honest. Usually you expect the actual power draw to be less than the maximum under most usage scenarios, including charging.

simplest way for you would be to buy an outlet timer and just set your backup to charge an hour a week or something

I have a question that will hopefully be simple for someone ... (i've tried a length to find out on my own but websites for video cards just dont seem to have the information that they used to)

I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 video card, I am considering buying a GTX 970 today.

I cannot find the power usage statistics for EITHER, I know at some point I was able to calculate my current rig, and it is fine even with some wiggle room.

Can someone tell me if the 970 would be expected to use more, less or about the same power as a 570? Any input is welcome (even a website that actually has good power info so I can find myself)

Thanks a ton.

edit: (looking more it looks like most recommend a 550w for a single GTX570 and only recommend a 500w for GTX970, so it looks like it uses less) Feel free to tell me I'm wrong if you know this not to be the case.

Somewhat less, depends on the model/clock speeds/voltage. A lot less under the worst-case scenario.

Nvidia's made huge strides in performance/power since Fermi.
