Unless you're talking about my drivers. If that's the case my playback is just my speakers and my recording is just my microphone. Both built-in from my laptop. Though I guess when I plug in my headphones and clip-on microphone they just take the laptop's place instead of having different drivers (since they don't need them anyways).

Not very intuitive if you ask me. Don't get me started on how not-intuitive it is. One day my soundcard started to feedback it's output into the output mixer with some half a second of delay because of the crappy boatload of stupid settings in there, turned out some random option was checked in the windows 7 audio settings, took me forever to isolate the issue >

I fought for 9 months to get an equalizer in my sound drivers.
People kept referencing an option box that wasnt there (realtek drivers). Some people said they removed the equalizer, others did not.
I did literally everything I could imagine to try to get a free equalizer but to no avail. The free ones were shit or didnt work. And Im not paying for that crap. The realtek hack fix didnt work either.
Finally one day I just went berserk in my drivers, constantly clicking things on and off, unplugging and replugging shit in. Eventually, the option submenu people were talking about just appeared for no discernible reason. I could not even begin to tell you what probably caused it to appear. I have no idea.

Decided to ask here before I open new thread.
My question is: Will I be able to stream from my laptop without overheating it? 6GB DDR3, i5 2450M, AMD Radeon 7670M. I'll be streaming in 720p and playing on 1600x900 resolution. Upload speed is not a problem (60mb/s). Laptop name "Toshiba Satellite L870-10Z 2,5 GHz" if that helps. Decided to ask before I waste time for nothing.
|
I think 720p might be aggressive if the framerate is anything to write home about. 480p seems like it could be doable.
Those mobile i5's are just dual cores, not quad cores. Thats the main problem.
|
Ok, thanks. Will try 480p.

Hi guys,
my laptop has 2 partitions (OS C:, and DATA D: ). Since it's Win 7, 'Libraries' (including My Documents, Pictures, Video) is on C:. Is there a way I can change this to D: ? Since C: only has 200 GB while D: has 300 GB (100% free).
Thanks.

My internet intermittently goes out for a split second.
On my end, what I notice is sometimes when I try to go to a certain webpage, nothing will happen, like it'll take forever to load, I'll have to just hit enter/refresh a few times. It's not too bad, but it's annoying. And in sc2, in the menu screen, I'll get a disconnected/reconnected thing happen very quickly. in-game, nothing happens, I don't notice anything on my end (maybe my opponent does?), but when I'm streaming, for example, the stream will go out for a split second (thankfully xsplit and obs will auto reconnect within 10 seconds, so the stream is back on asap).
But it's pretty annoying. And Im not really sure where to start to try to get this figured out. The internet isn't going down, it's just every... i dont know, couple minutes, maybe less time then that, there's split second disconnects.
My internet speeds are usually 10+down/4+up.

hi guys
not sure if anyone can help me here i have looked on Google and cant find anything on the subject. i have just been given a magnetic underlay for my bed will the magnets in it affect my laptop if i use it in bed?? or leave it on the bed?

How important is the top case fan in terms of cooling? I have a thermaltake v9 case and apparently the top case fan is defective on a lot of them, mine included. They do RMAs for it, but I don't have a reciept so I can't provide proof of purchase. At this point I'm putting it back together and just going to leave it unplugged and see what happens. Is this a horrible idea or will I be fine so long as I monitor temperatures?
e: the fan itself fell off track at some point today while nobody was home so I'm not entirely sure how it happened. We lost power so I wasn't surprised when the computer was off until the fan started scraping when I turned it on. Just glad it didn't whack my mobo ^_^ At this point it is too deformed to fix and it can't be replaced easily by merely buying a new fan. If I don't plug it in it, it shouldn't bother anyone is my idea unless someone has a more intelligent plan.

It should be fine just watch it.

Why can't you just replace the fan?
The top rear and rear top fan locations, for me, have resulted in the largest cooling gains, so I would say that it's kind of important. I mean, it really depends, but if you have an overclocked system and only 1 case fan, I'd say it's important you get that replaced. If you have a couple fans, you'll be okay. Just get a temperature monitoring program like hwinfo or hwmonitor or occt or the million other temp monitoring programs out there and see and make sure your temps are okay. Be aware that your CPU temps might be fine, but components on your motherboard might not be (most critically, your VRAM, northbridge, RAM, and southbridge, on my pc my ram actually tends to get the hottest under load).
I mean no case fan = no air flow in the case... the difference between no fan and 1 fan is quite drastic.
No one here can really tell you if you are okay. You really need to get a temp program and check for yourself if your temps are okay under load (just run prime95, linpack, memtest, etc for a minute, see where your temps go). you can also feel behind your motherboard, or the heatsinks of certain components, if you have heatsinks on them.
I'd really say it's actually quite important, but you really aren't describing the situation. If you have 7 case fans, yea, you'll be fine, but I'd recommend that if you don't buy a new fan and replace it, just to relocate a less crucial fan (personally, that's what I would do, but my temperatures are always extremely low, even under load, even on air, so me having 7 fans is kind of overkill, so I'd just move one of the fans, and maybe have to raise the power level of my fans to compensate, but i really wouldnt need to since my temps are so low). If you only have 1 case fan, maybe stock cooling and some low level overclocking going on, yea, you should really get a new fan, and maybe lower your overclocks for the time being.
point being, get a temperature monitoring program and find out for yourself. And you should really get a fan back to the top-rear or rear-top of your case, whether you have to relocate a fan already in your case, or have to buy a new one because that was your only fan, because that fan position tends to be the best. I know that if I had only 1 case fan though instead of the 7 that i have, and that fan died, that my temps would be a little too high and I'd have to do some system tweaking and downclock it before I could continue streaming, even though I have aftermarket HSF with push/pull fans on it.

I'm going to be streaming from my xbox for the Halo Trilogy when i get home i just wonder how do you connect your tv to your pc so you can stream while playing on your xbox?

This is the case
I actually found a proof of purchase so I can RMA it, but debating if I actually want to because it appears to be stable. It doesn't appear to be that big of a deal from what I've been monitoring. I'd rather not be computerless for a week.
My issue with replacing the fan is that it will probably just break again. I posted here about it scraping many months ago, but ended up re-seating it and it hasn't been a problem until today.

Problem: GSL iPhone App vod downloads are failing
Hardware: iPhone 4
Description: I'm logged in on the GSL App with my premium+ ticket, attempting to download GSL 5 Code S Ro32 Group A. After clicking 'Free Purchase' then 'Downlaod' button for the first match it says 'waiting' for a minute then 'failed'. This is with full WiFi reception.
What I've tried already: Powercycling my phone, turning off the app then reloading it, trying two different WiFi connections that are known to be good and have worked with the App in the past, downloading VODs from a different up/down group I had downloaded some matches from before (fails to download remaining VODs from that group).
Any help with this is much appreciated! Thank you!

yea in that case i really dont think you need to go computerless or stop doing light usage.
No one here can still really tell you if you can or can't do gaming, heavy usage, overclocking, etc.
You aren't really telling us what you do. If you are, say, like me, and you have overclocked your system (either just the cpu or the hyperthread transport link, northbridge, memory, etc), do heavy gaming, constantly changing your GPU overclocks, stream sc2 on ultra graphics using an athlon ii system that is maxing out it's load, it's going to be a little different than if you have a strong processor that can do this stuff on a breeze, or not streaming and just playing sc2 on low, etc.
All I can tell you is that you need to get a temperature monitoring program, and figure out the answer for yourself.
That said, given the fans you have in your system, I think your fine to keep using your computer for general usage, some moderate gaming. But still, I REALLY can't tell you for sure, you might just blow out your entire motherboard (on the flip side, that might be a totally alarmist thing to say). I don't know what your computer is. It's a little different if you are running something with an L3 cache, which tends to run CPUs hotter than ones without L3 cache. It's a little different if you are into overclocking (which i imagine you are, given your case). It's a little different if you are into streaming, folding, stresstesting, benchmarking.
Get. A. Temp. monitoring.program. Figure. out. the. answer. in. 10. seconds.
that said I'd probably swap that front fan and use it to replace the rear fan. and there's no reason not to RMA that fan. I really dont think you need to be computerless but, speaking totally out of my ass, because that's what anyone here is doing since you aren't using a temperature monitoring program to figure this out really simply really quickly, I'd swap the front fan with the broken rear one, and maybe hold off on streaming, benchmarking, heavy gaming. Maybe you could lower your overclocks back to stock or even underclock for the time being (and then continue doing stuff like heavy gaming, streaming, etc).
Why dont you just screw in the fan tighter? i dont understand how the fan is falling apart. If the rosewill default fans are so shitty just buy some cheapass Yate loons. Amazing fans for extremely cheap, probably 10x the quality too. I mean fans dont really break dramatically in the manner you describe, they die after a few years (and its a slow, painful, obvious death). It sounds like rosewill made some terrible case fans (which you should be aware of, dont buy cases for the PSU or fans in them because they generally are going to be terrible psu's and fans). Just get some better quality fans, they aren't going to blow up catastrophically because that's not normal.

in terms of performance, are there any benefits from installing windows on a ssd as opposed to an hdd when it comes to streaming?

why pay so much for an ssd then oO? wat benefits does it have
