First off, here is a nice description of mouse gripping preferences if interested. Also, I must preface that someone very nice gave me $100 for my birthday to get a good gaming mouse for SC2. I need to pick it out soon and after much research I still feel like I'm having quite a delima:
Basically I've used the 'Logitech Anywhere MX' mouse for over a year, and regardless if it's good or not I'm quite use to its form. Its size and weight is:
• Dimensions: (L x W x H) : 90.5 x 63.0 x 34.5 millimeters
• Weight: 125 grams with 2 AA batteries
I personally like the legnth and also the form of the Anywhere MX for the most part. I dislike the weight (feels a bit too heavy to me in longer matches), and the narrow front of the mouse (or lack of comfortable place to rest my ring finger) also causes this terrible habit of resting my middle finger on the wheel even though I always use that finger for r-click and have to move it constatly, like this:

Ideally the main things I'm looking for are:
• Nothing heavier than 125grams, prefferably lighter.
• Corded, no batteries, and a decent sensor on it (I havent read much if laser vs optical makes any difference for RTS games, but its not my main concern).
• Wider buttons than the Anywhere MX (atleast in the front)
• Legnth of 90-110mm (so it's not hitting my palm or base of my thumb - I like to pivot with my wrist on that "money bone" as Day9 calls it, haha). How I hold my mouse now:

I've read the entirety of the 'what mouse do you guys use nowadays?' thread and also alot of other research (some leading back to teamliquid forums too!). That said I've narrowed it down to:
Logitech G9x
MyPros: similar parts may feel familiar, roughly similar form. Legnth: 105mm
Cons: Not sure of its base weight, most reliable thing I've come across says 115g with the grip and no weights (which doesnt seem bad). Also, if you own it, hows the button width for you?
Cyborg R.A.T. 7
Pros: most adjustable dimensions, and I like the idea of the pinkey rest
Cons: I've heard it's heavy and I cant find any weight info for it without the weights, or any reliable minimum Legnth info for it. Can it be used without the palm rest and/or threaded tool/spring on the back? And does anyone know its minimum legnth or base weight?
Razer Salmosa
Pros: looks comfortable for fingertip grip. wide buttons. really weighs only 52grams?!
Cons: doesnt look in production, might have hard time getting new/good shape one.
Also: 115mm Legnth, thats right around where i wouldnt want it longer, not sure if it'd hit my palm or not.
Razer Spectre
Pros: 100mm Legnth, wide buttons, says "lightweight" though I dont readily have the grams amount.
Cons: I've heard the laser is jittery
SteelSeries Xai
Pros: Looks like all around amazing mouse. 98grams weight. nice form. Originally was going to get this one.
Cons: after all my research I'm concerned the way I hold my mouse would be uncomfortable switching to the Xai and with 125mm legnth may bump my palm and/or make it feel like I dont have as much fingertip control.
This may seem super specific (trying to be descriptive as possible in what I'm looking for) and after typing this all up I'm feeling really overly picky lol. But I know I may not be able to get a mouse this expensive for a long time and certainly wont be able to try any out before I buy.

CHoosing a mouse isn't rocket science either you get something you're used to if you want exactly the kind of mouse that ure used to or just get sum mouse which has all the properties you need

the xai is long but it works and you shouldnt be worried about it hitting your palm but you should be worried about its multi side buttons which imo ruin a mouse for a right hander

mixed feelings about the mouse, i owned it and returned it because the side buttons are tooooo far back for me. im very picky but that being said the mouse feels great and i tend to choose larger mice. it also will fit smaller hands so its a good pick. the adjustments are "ok" they are nothing like they should be for a mouse marketed to be "the most customizable mouse in history"

your mouse should be a razer deathadder. its light but not TOO light and its not too large and the curve is towards the middle so your palm tends to be JUST above hitting it which some like (i happen not to) only problem i have is it is not wide enough pinky area wise for me but if you pref that then get a sidewinder
im currently going through a mouse crisis and have bought around 10 mice now and had to return them all (cant get used to anything but my sidewinder. i think its a hardware issue but i digress) so as far as that goes you can trust my stats

cm spawn
nova slider 600 which is an EU company but its really nice tho the buttons are not the best for what you want but fit your reqs for feel

I would recommend the razer abyssus, it is the mouse I use, not too long, incredibly sensitive buttons, no crazy macro hotkeys etc, just a really really good, reliable mouse that is quite light and very comfortable to use for touch grip

I'm actually in the same position as you. I fingertip grip and my g9x broke down last Monday (as I was trying to ladder before lockdown, grumble), so I was in the market for a new mouse. I have pretty small asian hands, so I was more concerned about dimensions than weight. Here's the short list off my whiteboard:
Name - (width/depth/height, mm) - weight (w/ cord if available)
Logitech g9x (w/ precision grip) - 73x108x35 - 153g
Steelseries Kinzu - 64x117x36 - 104g
CM Storm Spawn - 75x110x35 - 142g

I couldn't find a place in the US to order a storm spawn and the abyssus doesn't have side buttons (which are a nice not-playing-starcraft convenience for me). So now I have a kinzu coming in the mail that should be here tomorrow. If it doesn't work work out, I'll return it and try an ec1 or (more likely) just order another g9x.

Own a g9x, button width is not an issue for me. everything is easy to reach, including the thumb and dpi changing buttons, scroll wheel button is stiffer than most mice though. Not bad enough to discount it, it hasnt hindered my play at all. Used to use a logitech wireless m305, which is even smaller, so the logitech feels big to me lol. I claw/fingertip grip and it's perfect, if you want it even smaller the precision grip(usually not pictured in promos) is smaller height and width wise, and without any shell at all Is probably one of the smallest high end mice you can buy.

That CM Spawn to me looks close to the exactly the type of form I'd like. Does anyone own/use that one for SC2, and if so, does it feel heavy after long games (at 142g)?
The G9x is still tempting me because the size/form seems great, and it's sold in the US. but 153g sounds like the heaviest one of them all (this could be alot better with a wire holder possibly?). I'll have to check what the performance grip and no-grip looks like.
Funny enough that Razer Abyssus seems really workable, 115m Legnth and @$49.99 I could get a new mouse pad also. Does anyone happen to have this ones weight?
After checking one the Zowie EC1 and DeathAdder and seeing theyre each 128mm Legnth I'll probably steer away from those personally, just 'cause how grip (although I'm open to input from finger tip grippers who use 125mm+ Legnth mice).
The Steelseries Kinzu now has my full attention. 77g weight (104g with wire) and 117mm legnth. Kambing please report back how that works out!

This mouse is very small and super light - it slides on goliathus control super easy. It's very precise and perfect for BW or SC2. And the most important - the price is very low compared to other mices.
For me it isn't very comfortable, but I never used finger grip mices before so I can't compare.
Overall I really recommend this cheap mice. Weight is ~52g I think.

I paid $30 for my abyssus on amazon. Don't know the specific weight but it's the lightest mouse I've used that wasn't one of those miniature laptop mice.

The g9x without a grip is very small. It was a little too small, even for my taste. The precision grip was perfect (and the other, fatter grip was bad).
The other thing to note if you are considering using a g9x without a grip is that the side buttons of the g9x are very small and are flush against the body of the mouse (instead of protruding out like a regular button). This is because the side buttons were designed to be pressed by the plastic nubs on the grips instead of pressed directly by the user. So if you use the side buttons extensively, it can be annoying to use them on a grip-less g9x.
And don't worry, I'll be sure to let you know tomorrow. My biggest worry is that the extra height of the kinzu will place the mouse back/top of the mouse into the middle of my palm (so my grip ends up being more claw- or palm-like). I find that to be the most uncomfortable feeling in the world when I'm doing anything mouse-intensive.

^the grip thing for the G9x is all subjective. I, for one, enjoy the fat grip. the thin grip is ok, but a bit too narrow for my fingers and I dislike the texture. So for the OP, all I can say is that between the 3 options you're bound to find one that fits you reasonably well.

Wow 52gs? I've been on my MS Wheel Mouse Optical since forever primarily b/c of its combination of balance and lightweight. My main concern with Razer's is durability. I.e. can it last 8-10 years the same way MS hardware does?

I'm pretty sure that 52g without cord. That's why my table above doesn't include some weights because I couldn't find weights for those mice that took the cord into account (just for consistency's sake; most of the stats included the cord).

Yes weight w/o cord. What about durability, it is made well but it feels like a cheap product actually. Why would you want mice to last 10 years? o_O I mean it costs pretty cheap, after few years your can change mice again.

I use to game with an MX Anywhere mouse so I know what you're looking for. Here's some recommendations based on mice I've owned since then:
LOGITECH G9X
PROS:
1. Wide - offers crucial support for your ring and pinky fingers. Using a mouse that's too narrow for too long can lead to Ulnar Nerve Entrapment (at least it did for me)
2. Three available grips (third sold online)
3. Very accurate
4. Sturdy Quality
CONS:
1. Middle click is so stiff it's obsolete
2. I would prefer slightly less stiff buttons
3. Heavy for a gaming mouse even w/out the weights, but not nearly as heavy as the MX Anywhere
RAZER ABYSSUS:
Pros:
1. BUTTONS: easy to click, tactile, and positioned horizontally. this combination should increase hand speed and reduce fatigue without sacrificing accuracy
2. Pretty good laser
3. Relatively comfortable
4. Light weight
Cons:
1. The buttons can pinch your thumb or ring finger when pressing them depending on how you hold the mouse. There's no way to know until you actually try it
2. Built like a toy (uses shiny plastic for pete's sake)
3. A bit too narrow for my taste
STEELSERIES KINZU:
The Kinzu is basically the same shape and size as the Abyssus, except it's built sturdier, has a lovely rubber satin coating, and has stiffer buttons. It's extremely well-rounded
I use the G9X as my primary mouse because of its good quality and ergonomic wide grip, however I play SC2 with the Abyssus (even though it feels like a toy) because its sensitive buttons are perfect for my gaming style. If you're not as picky about buttons as I am I'd suggest testing them all out out in the following order (return/sell the ones you don't like)
1. Logitech G9X
2. Steelseries Kinzu
3. Razer Abyssus
And by the way, ignore any fools (YES, FOOLS) who suggest a Death Adder when you asked for a small mouse using an MX Anywhere as your reference. Hope this helps!
[note: i can confirm the Nova Slider X600 isn't well-suited for SC2]

A couple more thoughts:
If you're a finger tip gamer I'm assuming you play with high sensitivity. If that's the case then you needn't be too concerned about the mouse's weight because, theoretically, you shouldn't have to move/re-adjust your mouse much to begin with. Am I right? In any case, any excessive lifting/adjusting you have to do with your MX Anywhere should be solved by the G9X's higher DPI and accurate tracking. Just be sure to turn off acceleration/prediction, get a decent mouse pad, and to replace any worn out mouse skates.
I'm a claw gripper and I can't remember the last time I had to pick up this mouse to re-adjust it...

I have the Steelseries Kinzu, which is just like the Xai but a bit smaller. Amazing mouse, some people say it has hardware acceleration, which may be true, but you can disable it. I have never heard of anyone complain about the mouse except people who didn't have one and thought the acceleration couldn't be turned off.

One quick question if anyone has the CM Storm Spawn (and a fancy scale), can anyone post/find the weight of this mouse without the cord? I know that makes quite the difference as to 142g with, and I'm guessing somewhere around 95-115g without the cord weight.

I just got one and love it. I've had a hard time finding the perfect, small, fingertip grip mouse.. and this is it! I've tried several mouses in my day and find this one to be one of the best. Comparable to the Logitech Mini Optical or smaller Logitech mice. Definitely a winner. Hope this helps :D
You really should try it out though if you have a chance to get your hands on it. Places like Microcenter have a pretty good return policy which will allow you to take it back if you end up not liking it. Just my 2 cents

I have had the same mouse issues for the last year. I have literally tried like 10 different mice, trying to find one that fits my needs, but I have been unsuccessful in doing so.
I initially wasn't sure what I needed to be happy, mainly because I was new to PC games, however after trying a multitude of larger gaming mice, I realized that what I really needed was the smallest mouse possible, that also had a side button. I have still been unsuccessful, and recently bought the Logitech G9x, which I thought was going to be perfect. Like the users, above, the only way I found it comfortable was to not use one of the grips that came with the mouse. The issue at that point was that the side buttons were near impossible to press with any accuracy because they end up being flush with the side.
I just bought the R.A.T. 7, and I feel like after customizing it to be as small as possible, it is still way too wide and long, so that is getting returned. I have also tried the Razer Naga, Lachesis, a Logitech G500, and a few others.
Ultimately, I have stuck with a simple Logitech M305, which is a very small, narrow mouse, however it does not have any side buttons. I really wish I could just use this mouse and somehow put a side button right where my thumb usually is, however that is obviously impossible. I think the biggest thing about this mouse is that it actually has some good height to it, meaning that it has a steep slope from the left/right mouse buttons to the back end of the mouse. This basically keeps my palm off of the mouse no matter what. Sometimes on other small mice, after a while my hand will naturally start to flatten out and my palm will start laying partially on the back end of the mouse. The slope to the M305 makes that type of thing avoidable, and thus has made me try to find a mouse with the exact dimensions of this, but also with at least one side button.
Another key to finding a mouse is that the side buttons need to be positioned further towards the back of the mouse. I have noticed that on a lot of mice, big or small, the side buttons tend to be positioned too far forward too be comfortable for me to press with any accuracy. With the fingertip style grip that I use, my thumb is positioned at the very back side of the mouse.
Ill probably post this on its own thread as I don't want to derail the OP's question, however I figured I'd give my two cents on what I think about some of the mice above.

I have both a Razer Salmosa and Abyssus and just now put them on the kitchen scales. The Abyssus was measured as about 72g and the Salmosa as 69g. Fiddling with the mouse cord made the measurement change about +/- 2g.

I'd just like to add a +1 to the Steelseries Kinzu. I picked one up for $30.00 and it is probably the best mouse I have owned -- Including my original Explorer (which would be 2nd).

So I've had a kinzu to replace my broken g9x for about 2 days of longish ladder sessions now. It is both narrower and lighter than the g9x, so I've had to adjust my grip and sensitivity a little bit to compensate. However, now it is working out quite well. I think it's panning out to be a good purchase for its price point.
I really do want to try the spawn/see some first-hand reviews at some point though. I'm finding that the most significant thing I've noticed is the narrow(er) body of the kinzu which makes me pinch the mouse harder with my thumb and pinky. The spawn's dimensions suggest that won't be a problem at all.

I own a couple of Razer Salmosas and I would highly recommend them. They are the lightest gaming mouse I have ever used, they have great consistent response, and a really smooth glide on any surface (I don't even use a mouse pad with mine). The buttons are sufficiently wide and really long (over half the length of the mouse) They also press really easily no matter where on the button you press (back/front i feel no difference). There are also no extra buttons (which i see as a plus as I hate extra buttons, although others may disagree). The mouse is also quite low profile and short enough to not hit your palm, making it great for fingertip control, It is also quite cheep, like $30 cheep which is spectacular for a gaming mouse.
The only downside is the limited DPI selection (you only get to chose 800dpi or 1800dpi) so you will have to adjust in-game sensitivity if you find 1800dpi too low.

I got a logitech G9x and you can take off the extra grips and make it pretty small. Also you can control the weight. It is very light if you don't add any of the extra weights. Its a fantastic mouse.. couldn't ask for more.

But I can't get at the local retailers and Amazon doesn't have it as well, I only found it in some smaller online shops, so I don't think I can try it out. So if anybody is capable of describing the different feel of it, I'd be grateful.

I have both. They have the same size, same weight, same materials for top, bottom and cord and basically the same shape. At the point where the top of the buttons starts to fall off towards the side of the mouse, the Abyssus has a sharp angle instead of curved surface. The mouse wheel on the Salmosa is from one piece of plastic with a rubber like look and feel. The Abyssus mouse wheel looks as if that rubber like plastic is a ring around a shiny plastic material.
The border of the top of the mouse buttons is the only difference in shape and if you don't grip the mouse in that position, there is no difference in how the two mice feel in your hands. [There was a third variant: an Asian version of the Salmosa with a smaller size.]
On the bottom of the mouse, the function of the two switches are swapped. On the Salmosa, the left switch can be set to 800 dpi or 1800 dpi, and the right switch has 125 Hz, 500 Hz and 1000 Hz options. The Abyssus uses the left switch for 125 Hz and 1000 Hz options (no 500 Hz on the Abyssus), and the right switch for 450 dpi, 1800 dpi and 3500 dpi (the Salmosa cannot be set higher than 1800 dpi).
The Salmosa has some kind of prediction and smoothes out jittery movement when you move the mouse pointer horizontally or vertically, which theoretically could be bad for tiny diagonal movements. The Abyssus has that prediction problem fixed but instead a blue LED to make the Razer logo on its back glow. Both the Salmosa prediction problem and the Abyssus blue light cannot be changed from the Razer driver because the mouse is in no way programmable through software unlike the pricier gaming mice. On the plus side, that means there is no reason whatsoever to install the Razer driver, and you can just stay on the standard Microsoft Windows stuff. [I had to paint with black water proof color over the Razer logo of the Abyssus because the stupid blue light was annoying at night.]
There is another problem you may not have noticed if you only put your hand on the Abyssus but never actually used it: you have to lift both Salmosa and Abyssus a pretty high distance before it stops tracking compared to other mice, which could be important if you often reposition your mouse. [I started gaming when there were ball mice, so I don't care.]
If I had to choose, my choice would be the Abyssus. I see no reason to buy the Salmosa.

Heh, so I was about to throw away my broken g9x. So I figured I try ripping off the right-mouse button beforehand to see why it stopped working.
I ended up tugging on it pretty hard when I noticed something snap back into place. I plugged it back in, and now I seem to be able to right-click just fine with it.
So now I have my kinzu (whose packaging I already disposed of so I can't return it) and my g9x both sitting on my mousepad at the moment.
It's pretty awkward right now. I hope they can resolve it themselves.
EDIT: nevermind, looks like when I went up to go to the bathroom, the kinzu garroted the g9x's right-mouse button again so it's busted. Easy peasy.

Listen to me: I used to have a logitech anywhere mouse and then got a computer with bluetooth.
I figured hey I would love to have a bluetooth mouse for my laptop! But I like Starcraft.
So I decided on a Razer Orochi. Its a great small mouse that has the option of being wired or wireless for use with bluetooth. The problem is that the wire is very short so you may need a USB extension to use this tiny fingertip grip mouse with a desktop.
Then again I have smallish hands and thats why I like the tiny little orochi Very responsive though amazing mouse IMO

I use g9x WITHOUT the skin! And it's really awsome, it got the perfect weight/ size ratio! You can also adjust the DPI settings that you can get the perfect sensitivity

I know this is an old thread... but it's one of the few good commentaries coming up in searches on fingertip-grip mouse options, so I want to add something to the mix.
I fingertip grip and like the very compact mice as a result. Despite having medium-to-large hands many of the mice mentioned in this thread seem too large for me to to fingertip comfortably. My favorite mouse so far is the Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. It's corded, compact, very light, easily available, and works well. It's reportedly a 1000 dpi sensor.
The MS Notebook Mouse IS a bit on the narrow side. I've never had trouble with Ulnar Nerve Entrapment, but that might be an issue for some. I also like the Logitech M305/M505, which are each a bit larger and wider, and might be a good option, but unfortunately they don't seem to offer corded mice with the exact same ergonomics. Those mice also lack any feature buttons on the side. (I use the MS Notebook Optical's one side button for auto-run in MMOs).
My favorite "gaming high-dpi" fingertip mouse is the Razer Orochi. It's the only gaming mouse I've found that's small enough to comfortably fingertip without it hitting my palm. I'm not sure how folks fingertip bigger mice, as I don't have especially small hands. It's not (yet) my favorite mouse, as I prefer the quieter and lighter touch of the MS Notebook Mouse 3000s buttons and scroll wheel. However, if I simply had to have more than 1000 dpi, there is no question I'd be using the Orochi. As a bonus it operates either completely wired, or wireless bluetooth, so the same mouse can handle both your home wired and portable wireless needs.
BTW, I came across this thread because I'm experimenting with turning off mouse-acceleration and finding that the comfortable mouse-speed settings leave me with no ability to get single pixel precision at my 2560x1600 rez. It might simply be a 'combination of mouse settings' issue, but I havn't been able to resolve it.
I've also tried out the Nova Slider 600 and G9x. Both mice are far too big for me. In order to make room to fingertip-maneuver the Nova, my fingers rest back on the mouse body and the high-arch bends my wrist back and is a bit uncomfortable. The G9x is only small enough with no grip-attached, and in this state it has some unpleasant sharp edges. I also felt these larger mice are harder for me to quickly and precisely move around with just my fingers compared with my current favorite (the compact MS Notebook Optical 3000). The Nova seem pretty ideal for palm-grip users, and the G9x seems great for palm or claw grip. The Nova, by the way, excellently constructed and has some of the smoothest teflon coated surface gliders i've ever seen.

Here are some pictures of the Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse 3000, a "standard size" cheapie white Dell pack-in mouse, and the Nova Slider 600. You can see the Nova is bigger and taller than a "standard" size mouse by quite a bit, and it's absolutly huge compared to the the Notebook Optical Mouse. I find the compact Notebook Optical much easier to fingertip.
