Hello there, i just managed to spill a glas of Fanta over my Logitech G15. Does anyone here know if it works to like.. let it run under the tap for a few minutes to get the soda out?
After all, this costed me 900:- SEK ~ 120 dollars.
If it is a dead keyboard now i'll probvably get a blackwidow.
EDITI found someone who wants to buy it xD Even if it's broken. He told me he would like something to mess around with, it had a flashy LCD thingy according to him

Take the keys out and clean them. Then clean the inside aswell. Wouldn't risk just putting it under the tap. GL with it. G15 is a pretty solid keyboard

I spilt half a glass of water on mine, completely messed up afterwards. I'm now back to my old close to 10 year old keyboard

I don't see how liquid can break a keyboard, I've spilled stuff on every keyboard I've owned and had them under the tap. Let one even soak in water to clean it properly lol.
I'd still be cautious with it, maybe high end keyboards are more prone to go kaputt.

No I killed my G15 with liquid years ago. Get a real mechanical keyboard without any bullshit I believe I could put my Filco in the dishwasher and still use it after drying it but don't quote me on that.

I am going to quote you on this and back up the statement. I haven't actually put my Das in the dishwasher but I have soaked it in some good ol' Isopropyl alcohol after spilling monster on it at a lan just a few days after I got it. Now it is good as new.
Good luck shopping for a mech keyboard, there are so many good choices.

When you spill something on electronics the thing you want to do is remove the battery or unplug it. The gunk on it usually wont kill it but the short circuiting that will occur shortly after the spill will do your electronics in.

I lost my g15 to spillage a couple of weeks ago. Finally gave me an excuse to buy a mechanical keyboard.
RIP g15 your funky LCD screen will be missed

I spilled half a bottle of beer over my G15. Still works.
Just take the keys out, let most of the liquid drip out and if dealing with a non-sticky liquid, just leave it in a warm place for a couple of days. Should be fine. If you are dealing with a sticky liquid (such as Fanta-_-), you're going to want to clean it with water first. Hell, it's already wet. As long as you don't absolutely soak it and make sure to let everything dry thorougly, I don't see any problem.
Electronics can deal with water, all the sensitive parts are sealed up. What they don't deal with is functioning while in contact with water. If you took the plug out quickly, chances are it'll be fine.

hmmm...
If i drowned my g15 and it still worked, next step would probabably to wedge it under the front of my back wheel on the car, then try to do a burnout.
i hate my g15.

The you've been pretty lucky... I mean I've occasionally spilled small amounts of liquids on my keyboards over the years, and it's never done them in, but, I did always make sure to unplug immediately and suck out the liquid with paper towels, etc.
Even on a regular keyboard, having a whole glass of something is probably something you want to avoid. But on a higher end keyboard (especially one with an LCD display like the G15), it's probably even worse.

Any keyboard in which the biggest feature is to give you a reason to take your eyes off the screen is pretty much... uh... bad?
So despite you loosing a bunch of money, it was not a worthy product anyway...^ - ^

Any supporting theories why? Obviously water + electronics while switched on is bad. While unplugged? And why should the quality of the board make it worse (other than suffering a greater financial loss if it does break)?
Another example: friend of mine dropped his entire notebook in water. While switched off. The battery was fried afterwards, yet the notebook was just fine after he'd left it to dry in the sun for a week.
Bottom line: liquids don't kill electronics. Short circuits do.

Don't attempt to use it until it's clean. It's PROBABLY fine. If you see some fried circuits when you take it apart though, well. Damage already done - nothing you can do
Reason you use alcohol instead of water is because water takes surprisingly long to dry when it's in tiny crevices - can take days or even longer, and if you turn it on before it's bone dry, you'll likely fry it.

i recently got a g15. i like it. of course i got it new for $40. I dont think i would ever pay $100 for a keyboard. Chances are you can clean it out good.
The LCD clock is great. Especially when you are playing games and the whole screen is being taken up by the game. i like having the clock at least

Yeah, I love the G15 for FPS gaming as well. It's not ideal for typing or RTS, but I would never use a mechanical for FPS (mostly Quake 3/Live and UT2k4). The ability to mash keys without any bumps is something that makes WASD movement very smooth, and a clicky board would ruin that.
Among cheap rubberdome keyboards, the G15 is one of my favorites. Although, to be honest, I never really use the screen for anything besides ventrilo display.
