While doing a little Christmas shopping online the other day I across some interesting StarCraft 2 products that I was unaware of. Being that I'm a very average amateur player I'm always looking for new advantages that could potentially help my game. I'm currently using a wireless (I know) logitech revolution mouse that's in need of an upgrade. I'm looking for a mouse that was built well and has some weight to it.
I found this mouse on Amazon which I had never seen in a store: Razer Spectre StarCraft II Gaming Mouse
![[image loading]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41gXDdpfmkL._SL500_AA300_.jpg)
I'd like everyone's honest opinion of this mouse before I buy it. It looks pretty cool and must have been licensed by Blizzard for them to have been able to put the StarCraft II logo on it.
Poll: Razer MousesSuck, cheaper mouses work just as well (85) 70% Rock and are worth every penny (37) 30% 122 total votes Your vote: Razer Mouses (Vote): Rock and are worth every penny (Vote): Suck, cheaper mouses work just as well
|
got money to waste -> buy it trying to save some money for other stuff -> don't buy it.
Pretty simple.
|
The shape looks quite awkward to hold, but that's just from looking at the picture.
Other than that, it has APM Technology ^^
|
I bought this a month ago and I freakin' love it. Amazon had the best price and it seems they still do.
|
No different, if not worse than other cheaper alternatives. For example try the Logitech MX518, extremely cheap considering other options and a proven mouse which professionals and non use. But no mouse will make you a better player, except in your case as wireless mouse's suck :p
|
What exactly is APM technology?
I know what APM is, but how does it work in a mouse?

It's something that Razer thought of and is mentioning often in promotion of their SC2 hardware, but it is mocked regularly on TL since it's fairly pointless. Basically, the lights on the mouse change color depending on your APM. So red color for low APM and green for high, or something like that.

well i didnot try it, but i dont like it either. i payed round 70€ for my mouse, so i think it is worth it and i dont wanna get one of these cheap mice again.

Yeah I saw them but they were mostly about all Razor products. I'm just specifically interested in this one.

it's a terrible mouse with APM lights, that's about it. If you want a good mouse, get the razer death adder.

Caution though, the deathadder might be a little too big for starcraft. I own a razer salmosa and deathadder, both are extremely comfy but the salmosa is much smaller/lighter and just feels so much better when playing RTS games.
The deathadder has the two extra side buttons which I really love for everything else, though. I don't own an abyssus, but from what I hear, they're a newer version of salmosa, except a little bigger.
|
Its a waste man, go buy a Razer Deathadder. This mouse is gonna be way more comfortable than the "official Starcraft 2 mouse." Same with keyboards. When do you ever see a progamer with one of those funky "gaming" keyboards

Djzapz nailed it:

It looks like that terrible Apple mouse.

I do not look at my mouse while i play sc2 xD
|
I do not look at my mouse while i play sc2 xD It shines a LOT i mean it can blind you. believe me you will see it.
Well This mouse looks everrated by Razer, I dont find it SOOOO EPIC. Its for finger grips / claw grips what is nice for me but 5600 DPI it way to much for RTS. and it looks like crap i mean when my GF come to my place and see this i would have troubles to explaining whats going on. go for Razer Abyssus if you like the shape
|
Just buy a normal mouse slap a sc2 sticker on it and call it super apm lighting fast mega flash mouse.
Mouse wont make you any better, buy it for the looks if you want but dont expect a big improvement.
|
Seriously dont make polls like this, it's soo pointless. What you want is real intel from people that have used the mouse.
There is VERY few that's even held it, yet used it. Just saying, so dont take your poll as some kind of truth, since it'll just give you a opinion of what people _Feel_ when they look at the mouse and its specs.
If you are unsure, wait a few weeks, check up on reviews on different sites (like this one) and youtube reviews. There is usually something useful to extract atleast

i was using a revolution as well. but then i switched to a v100

It looks really cool, I think that's about all it has going for it...

I'm looking to get a new mouse.
Razer Specture or Logitech G9?
|
take a look at the razer salmose/abyssus
|
check my thread for pics/review
|
I'd be willing to bet that the SC2 logo on that wears off before too long.
|
I have 2 diamond backs and like them a lot. The APM lights seem very useless. People really like their logitech mice.
|
Looks really awkward to hold. I really hate uni-hand mice personally, the last one i had game me hand cramps.
|
On December 04 2010 08:45 Doodsmack wrote: I'd be willing to bet that the SC2 logo on that wears off before too long.
That is highly unlikely, because the SC2 logo isn't printed. If it was printed and able to be worn off, it wouldn't light up like it does.
More likely is the razer logo wearing off.
|
it's kind of like a razer salmosa with unnecessary bells and whistles. i'd go for a different mouse. the APM lighting seems tempting to a newer player, but a more experienced player will be thinking along the lines of "what is the point of lights? i don't have the time in-game to look down at my mouse to see what color it is"
|
Don't listen to all the haters. Buy it if you like it and won't starve for the next week because of the price. Everyone is just judging it based on it's looks and claims it's awkward to hold when they've probably never even seen the thing in real life. Will it make you awesome at Starcraft? Probably not. But it will make you happy if you got a mouse that you like and enjoy playing with.
And if you can't tell what color light your mouse or keyboard is without looking directly at them, you should get your peripheral vision checked. I hear it's pretty useful.
|
My current Logitech Revolution is getting to the point where I can no longer charge the batteries. I have to get a new mouse, I'm not a pro, I buy pretty much anything that says SC2 on it, Soooo I think I'm gunna buy it. I'll give you my thoughts after I've given it a whirl.
|
as others have said, Id go with a salmosa or abyssus. They weigh a lot less than this mouse and weight is far more important for a good rts mouse than apm lighting or fancy stuff like that.
|
|
|
ok, this is a really cool mouse and if you really wanted it, you should buy it. I have one question about the feature though, the mouse lights up different color when your getting attacked by do you honestly ever look at the mouse EVER in a game? kinda seems like pointless perk

Why ? Because FruitDealer uses one ? Please expand on your argument. I mean OP is kinda lacking more options. And I wonder how you could pool without people actually trying this mouse, at least not for more then few hours on events.
Also consider there are people who don't mind spending 10 bucks more on mouse that is licensed for SC, most of hate this mouse have is from APM tech, which in eyes of most automaticly makes you douche bag, I'm also considering these two mouses but I ll decide on base of reviews. At least I hope someone makes after few days/weeks using it. Also I would like comment from some tournament players.
|
I just got a Logitech G9X during Newegg's Black Friday sale (came with a $30 mail in rebate). It's freakin' amazing. I would highly recommend it. The interchangeable weight cartridges are very nice, really solid construction, good feel in your hand (a bit smaller than the MX518). The customizable LED color function is really nice, too, and adds a bit of flash.
|
imo the sc2 logo and those lights are embarassing.
other than that its important to know if its z-axis issue affects rts games.

if you are going to get a razer mouse, just get a deathadder or mamba (Or copperhead, if you are feeling like a baller :D)
I personally have been using a razer copperhead for the past ~5 years, and prefer it to alot of logitech mice (I have won a few logitech mice, and mostly just give them away to friends. It may be important to note that I don't like the larger profile logitech mice tend to have, although I know alot of people like having a big mouse. I personally like to have my wrist on the table and have a very light mouse) However, despite my razer loyalty, the spectre really looks like it is uncomfy/pure novelty
|
I'd recommend a Logitech G5 over that but they no longer make them. The G500 is the successor to the G5 and is made of pure win. I believe you can get one for around $60 now and you will not replace it. If anything happens to it theres a good warranty on it and Logitech stands behind their products like you wouldn't believe. My G5 failed and they paid for the return shipping to them, sent me a G500 replacement.
I'm kinda biased though I haven't owned any of the Razer mice and I don't think I ever will.
|
I can't stand Logitech MX518/G5/G500 shape. Way too bulky. Spectre looks good. How big/heavy is it compared to the Abyssus?
|
Omg I can't stress this enough; There is so much crap going on in this thread! People claim stuff about the actual basics of the mouse as if they were bad BECAUSE it has extra "cool" features. And I can guarantee you that almost no one has held it and yet even seen the mouse yet...
On December 05 2010 00:21 diehilde wrote: as others have said, Id go with a salmosa or abyssus. They weigh a lot less than this mouse and weight is far more important for a good rts mouse than apm lighting or fancy stuff like that.
Where do you pull this from? Both the salmosa and the abyssus ARE BIGGER THAN THE SPECTRE. Should be some indicator there telling you that it is probably NOT alot heavier than the two you mention, if at all.
*Grrr* I mostly hate the topic itself because it lends itself to these kinds of posts. A poll about this is just horrible and will help the topic creater in about absolutly no way (except beeing swinged) and the posts themselves are mostly just biased bullshit coming from people with no knowledge. Very very sad. (That doesnt go for all posters in this thread ofc, but the majority...)
I will buy it, and it is simly because there is no other mouse with this type of shape and it is very small and have very good laser WITH 5 BUTTONS (Hate to webbrowse without mouse 4 and 5...) That simple. Steelseries Kinzu that is the smaller version of Xai, has only three buttons and is even abit bigger than spectre - just as a reference. The rest is just a bonus that you can just turn off if you want anyways and is not the reason I will buy it. I've never liked razer myself but this looks to be something I might like.
I'll let you know what I think of it once I get it. Maybe it blows for all I know, but I sure hope not.
Lastly; the only advice I'd give you for when you purchase something like a mouse would be to go over in your head what you yourself feel is what you want shapewise (ambidextrious or ergonomic), size, Do you have big or small hands etc? Weight? Do you like it to have some resistance and dense feel to it or do you want it to be hyper fast to move around? How many buttons do you need? After that you just check out different reviews of people that have actually used the mouse and then make a decision based on more data and a more concrete feeling.
Anyway, good luck finding a mouse!

used these
and the accompanying keyboard + headset at Blizzcon and the only thing I can say is that they all sucked pretty bad. They all felt very very cheap and flimsy :/
|
This mouse is pretty uncomfortable, unless you like square-shaped mouses with a plastic feel, the apm techonology is pretty overrated.
