I've had a bunch of IE 3.0's, back in the days when it was actually a good mouse. Crap always broke within 6 months for me. Always the same, mousebutton 1 started to get glitchy. I don't get why people love this mouse so much. Bought a Razer Diamondback 3G 3-4 or so years ago (had a normal Diamondback inbetween this and 3.0), and this one hasn't broken down yet. I even bought a spare a year or so back, thinking that it should break soon. But it's as sturdy as ever, the soft rubber covering of the mouse buttons are worn down, and have been for quite a while. Love this mouse, never knew what the Razer hate was about.
Cloth pads get so disgusting, doesn't matter if it's black or colored. The sweat that soaks into the pad makes it feel so yucky. I prefer plastic over metal or glass though, and I picked up the Zowie Swift a while back. It's awesome.
About headsets, I really prefer using headphones and a desktop microphone instead, mostly because you get way better headphones for the same price of a headset. And you can just pick up a random microphone for 5$ or so that is just as good or better as the crap you get on a headset. I have broken countless headphones over the years, they ALWAYS break above the right headphone, I use tape or glue for a while to hold it together but after a while it just falls apart completely. I guess it has to do with how I put on/off them. I came up with the idea of a metal frame the last time I had to get new ones, and found the Grado SR-60's. Grado has a bunch of headphones with metal frame, I think SR-60 is amongst the cheapest model. I really recommend these, they have a really good sound and feel really sturdy.
As for keyboards, I dunno. I use a cheap saitek keyboard, it's really bad.

Basically everything said in OP is true, I have a death adder and love it, a basically dell keyboard (will go mechanical when i have $ though) my headset is steel series siberia v2 and mouse is plastic (i love the feel, i have a metal too.. there is not that much difference to be honest)
The only thing I find that matters a lot is you're mouse, do some research and get something you feel is comfy.

That may be true, but the Steelseries and Allsop cloth pads I have, both don't get destroyed from being washed with water and detergent. I regularly wash my favorite one and use my second one, while the other is drying for a day or two.

Telling an RTS forum to get a 3.0 is just plain silly. Know your audience if you're trying to give -accurate advice. As much as I love the 3.0 (used it for about 7-8 years during my competitive FPS days), it's NOT suited to RTS, and neither is the 1.1. Low DPI is a problem in SC2 because we're no longer using 640x480 and with the way LCDs are affected by non-native resolutions, you won't be.
400/450 DPI is just not fast enough with horizontal resolutions upwards of 1280, and using Windows/in-game (the same in SC2) to increase your sensitivity results in a huge loss of precision (look up In game sensitivity on TL for my thread on the matter).

Good man
Mousepad: QcK Heavy Check
Mouse: Razer Deathadder (Previous G5 and previous mx518 owner, 6 of these puppies between the two all broke)
Check
Headset: Steelseries 5hv2
Not the 7h, But they were new at the time
Check
OP, You're a good man. I could not agree with you more, on anything you said. Intellimouse is baller status, But stay away from the logitech mice, I have gone through more logitech products then the mcdonalds drive through. They are not meant for power users (Although logitech does have a very good return service, you basically can ship them half a mouse and they give you a bran new one). As for headsets, I feel steelseries makes the best price/performance set you can buy. The mic sounds amazing over ventrilo or high quality voice op's (Skype). Listen to this man people, He knows whats up. Never buy a non mechanical keyboard from a gaming company. The Steelseries 7g is alright, But please NEVER buy a razer xxxxx other than the Black widow (Which I hear is getting amazing reviews)
OP, i suggest adding the Black widow keyboard for razer as one of the premier Mechanical keyboards.

Hmmm, I agree with some things you're saying... What leagues were you in for cs and css? And notable teams? Maybe you should add that into the thread so peple are less scepticle.

I'm not pro and pretty bad, but it's not my mouse/mouse settings holding me back.
Mainly a preference really, since my work setup is a 400 dpi mouse with a horizontal of 2048 when I get home it isn't a problem.

Why would anyone use an IE 3.0 when the 1.1 is so freaking good? Also god I've always wanted an Intellimouse SE/SS, why didn't Steelseries or whoever just try and buy the license to make intellimice forever.
That said I'm liking my kinzu even if it was a bit pricey for what it is, much prefer it to my logitech fatmouse.

For one, high level FPS players typically have their DPI turned up high while having their sensitivity low. So yes, DPI does matter. Its alot more precise then adjusting your sens in game. As far as your comment on the G5/G9.. after 12 years of playing quake (quakeworld to quakelive) I can tell you the G9 is BY FAR the best mouse ive ever used. The few times I've tried Razers, they've either been DOA or broke within a short timeframe. Its precise, comfortable, and is just plain reliable. But everyone has their own preference.
As for your comment on mousepads.. to make a decision based upon it getting dirty and looking "gross".. thats just dumb. If your a low sens player, you'll want a large mousepad.. something along the terms of a Razer Goliathus (which is what I use) or the all reliable Allsop Teardrop XL.
Headset.. I've used sennheisers for 10 years, and have had no complaints or problems. (HD 595 currently)

?
I did say to use a large mousepad
and getting a white mousepad dirty is somethign which no one seems to think about, its a valid comment. Who wants to sit at their pc for hours with their arm on some weird stained mousepad?
Of course people are goign to be saying "ive used this and it hasnt broken so its the best" its their opinion.
As far as MIE 1.1 i liek that mouse too, just didnt add it becasue its essentialy the same thing as the 3.0 and the 3.0 is more common

Why is this in tech support? Blog please.
What if it's dirty... you don't actually spend time looking at your mousepad do you? You realize all the dirt is being absorbed inside the cloth pad. Not exactly better than the large plastic ones (talking about the white razer), which you can clean relatively easily.
The IE3.0 might be sturdy, but the one I tried out had the problem of feeling too plasticky. I couldn't press down hard or fast in fear of breaking. Granted, it may have been used beforehand. I have no comments on most other mice. The G7 is heavy, and wide. I didn't adjust to it quickly.
I don't like anyone who suggests headsets over headphones and a microphone, unless it's for pure skype related use. It is simply not even a competition.

I've owned a few gaming mice. I've went from G5(2years) -> Deathadder(1.5years) -> IME 3.0(5 months) -> g9x(4 months and counting). For FPS games, the Deathadder and the IME felt the most accurate and felt the best. IME a bit better than the deathader since it was lighter. I switched to a g9x and snagged one for $40, its a bit heavy even without the weight cartridge, but I find it better for SC2 than the deathadder due to the smaller size. The g5 was good when I had it but after using the deathadder and ime3, it felt like a crap mouse with a crap sensor. Gave that to my dad. I wanted to use the IME3.0 for SC2, but 400dpi couldn't work with 1920x1080 res.
For FPS, i used a Puretrak Talent. Huge mousepad, mice would glide like no other. For SC2 and my g9x, I use this weird blend of plastic mousepad I got from an airline. Its WAYYY too smooth for fps but is pretty good for sc2. My dream mouse would probably be a mouse shaped either like the 1.1 without the right side button or a 3.0 with fixed side buttons and scroll wheel with around 2000 dpi. It would have to have a sensor with the accuracy and tracking ability of the IME3.0.

I would have to agree with meredoc, I thought this post had something to it until I read about his bashing G5's... I Currently use a G5 and have for well over a year now, its great in RTS and FPS. It hasn't broken and the tracking is JUST FINE...

I really agree with your notion of using what works for games like Starcraft 2.
I bought a Logitech S510 wireless keyboard + mouse set for the media buttons, wireless usage (I have a HTPC setup), and general slimness of it. I really don't know what dpi the mouse has, but it's probably not that high. But, it's comfortable in hand, and I perform just find with it in diamond league.
I will also agree that the right keyboard is one that feels comfortable to you. The one point of consideration is the key pitch. My keyboard has a pretty high key pitch, so it takes more effort to press the same key in rapid succession. This is actually slightly annoying when I'm trying to move to different parts of the map with hotkeys.
Starcraft 2 should really be praised for its scalability. I used to ladder like crazy on my VAIO SR with nothing more added on than a USB wireless mouse. Performance in the game depends more on the player and his/her strategic or mechanical skill, rather than what brand of gear is in possession.

nvm, opened a new thread instead...

Honestly I love my LMO SOOOO much that I'm willing to just turn up the sensitivity in SC2 because I hate my Diamondback 3G so much. I dislike the shape of every single mouse that isn't the LMO. My question to you is, can I take an abbyssus and put the sensor into a LMO????????

Incorrect:
Cypher - 450 dpi rapha - 400 dpi cooller - 400 dpi strenx - 800 dpi av3k - 800 dpi
There is no evidence to suggest that dpi is more precise and you are simply making that up. Also g9 is definitely NOT the best mouse for fps because the sensor is shit.

I've been using the Sennheiser pc350 for awhile now and honestly it's the best headset I've owned. Comfortable light, and damn sturdy even though when I first opened it up I was worried it'd break on me. The one problem is the vol/mic control' is pretty much left dangling unless you want to slide it on your shirt collar(cord gets in a strange place) other then that pretty good.
The Death adder is a great mouse, I've used it for FPS,RTS, and MMO and I've never been more happy. If there is a problem with it it's the rubber wheel is a magnet at attracting oil and bits from your hand. Clean often if you have an issue of that kind.

I agree with most things. Cloth rocks for a mousepad, it feels so comfy. I disagree with the headset choices though, I would never get a 'gaming' headset.
