If so, that might be one of the reason Razer decided on the blues? If not, then the probably opted for the blues because of the noise, signifying to their customers(most are non keyboard experts) that there is indeed a difference between this new mech keyboard and their previous ones. If Razer's blue switches are the same as Filco's blue switches, then Filco isn't going to sell anymore keyboards...(assuming that the Razer one is equally as fundamentally sound.) Razer isn't producing its own switches and neither is Filco. They get them from Cherry. I'm almost sure that they didn't choose blues for their price. Blue switches are basically the same exact parts as browns just with a added mechanism to create a click. Filco will probably do less business with gamers, but the core keyboard enthusiast's are still going to invest in Filco, as it is the most trusted, and looked upon keyboard on the market. Well, you're looking at razer's $80 vs filco's $109 for the same keys(assuming they are). Is there a reason razer can sell them for so much cheaper; assuming that razer likes maximum profit? Also, razer has macro keys which is a nice addition for gamers and certainly doesn't take away from the keyboard. Can it still be justified to get a filco? I've owned a Razer keyboard previously (Lycosa Mirror, $93) and if that is anything to go by the Black Widow is made by the same cheap feeling plastic. Sure the key switches are mechanical now but that is not all that makes a great keyboard... I now own a Filco 104 with Cherry MX Browns and the thing is just built like a truck, it feels like a solid piece of machinery. The entire keyboard is backed by a solid metal plate so it doesn't flex or slide around your desk. Filco keyboards just ooze quality from any angle you take, they don't rely on poorly painted keys with backlights. They don't rely on glossy plastic - which was the worst thing about the Lycosa and I can't believe it's back. Razer gear is just cheap and nasty, it is all marketing and gimmicks. If I sound like I am hating on Razer then you're spot on. I'm still pissed off at wasting $250+ AUD on: - A crappy keyboard where the touch screen died 2 months after I bought it which meant I could not turn the backlight off and had to unplug it at night (quality and convenience++) - An awful mouse that jumped everywhere because the firmware had a bug which apparently still hasn't been fixed, I don't really care because I donated it to a charity bin ages ago. - A mousepad where the top layer of fabric wore out and started shitting black clumps of rubber all over my desk that cost FORTY THREE DOLLARS. I've had 25 cent made in china mouse pads last longer and work better. "By gamers for gamers" is an absolute joke, Razer is cheap plastic trash rebadged and marketed to hell and back, there is nothing more to it. The worst part is I fell for the retarded marketing. At least I've learned my lesson but I still feel like an idiot even now. Not all gamer targeted products are awful, the steelseries mousepad I currently have is excellent. I haven't tried their other products though and to be honest I probably won't now.
As far as razer products, they really need to work on their product constructed. On my death adder, if you click too hard, I could feel the entire top part depressing instead of only the clickable area. My friend has gone through 2 death adders due to mouse feet wearing down using a razer sphex. he has also thought about getting a new keyboard because some of the lights on his lycosa have died. also, its detrimental to gamers when any parts of the mouse are made glossy because you lose grip after sometime due to the sweat that is produced by your hands.

when i bought my filco brown switch keyboard, i got the shopkeeper to open three filco versions side-by-side for me to test. blue, brown, and black switches.
i went with brown because it felt the best to me. blue (which is used on the blackwidow, so i've in a way compared both directly) was a bit too light and too noisy for my taste. the black keys would've been pretty great to game with, but didn't feel good for typing text at all. no tactile feedback, and it's pretty stiff. brown was just all-around awesome, it's a joy to type with, and fantastic for gaming. when you type quickly with the brown you don't have to bottom out the keys so it feels springy yet reasonably quiet.
the filco is also built really really well. it's really heavy, doesn't slip on the desk unless i lift it up and replace it elsewhere, and all in all i can't see it dying on me in the forseeable future.
the filco also has stuff like full no-key-roll-over (using ps/2), but then that's not really necessary if you ask me, are you going to press a ton of keys at the same time while playing starcraft?
i also got the red esc keycap and the blue wsad keycaps with my keyboard, which i think can look pretty nerdy, but i like it. really, i'd recommend this keyboard to anybody, i never regretted buying it even though it was really pricey.
i've got no real problems with razer build quality, i'm currently using a deathadder, it's big and comfy, and tracks flawlessly, and works perfectly after more than 2 years. i also had a razer hard pad, an exactmat i think. no problems with that, just that after a while i felt hard pads ate away at my mouse feet too quickly, and i bought a puretrak talent, and i'm never switching mouse pads again.

They are virtually identical, since they are both rebranded costar boards. Same with the das, and probably a few others. Filco is a Chinese company that elitekeyboards distributes in the US, where Rosewill is Newegg's house brand, they just get the boards from Costar, which I guess somewhat explains the price difference $85/99 vs $135 since I doubt elitekeyboards gets them for much below MSRP.

Has anyone been able to find this in retail stores yet? On the Razer site they just delayed the release again from 11/5 to 11/30.

dude Im getting a little angry as well. I ordered it on the 20 because i saw that the est shiping date was oct 29. wait till then no shipping notice then i check the site and it says nov 5...i go ok fine ill wait, no shipping notice then i check razer site again and it says nov 30! like wow are they failing hard.

I just got notification that mine has shipped today, so anyone who ordered in october should probably be getting today's shipment.
but damn i'm excited to get this thing. i've always wanted a good mechanical keyboard, and this seems like the first one with a better build quality that i can afford. i know some people seem to distrust razer, but i've had really good luck with razer products. the only razer product that has performed less than optimally for me was my deathadder after i dropped it down a flight of stairs. i got a salmosa after that because i was feeling cheap, but i ended up liking it more than the deathadder.
i agree that some of their stuff is pointless and overpriced, and i've heard of certain razer products being just being trash (mostly their headphones), but i've had good luck with them so far and i don't think they deserve all the hate they get.

Just to confirm that point, my recent email exchange with the razer store staff:
"Thank you for contacting the Razer Store. Your order has been shipped today but the order status will only be updated the next day around 3-4am CDT. Here's your tracking number in the meanwhile: *****
The 30th of November for the BlackWidow Normal edition is only for those who want to buy it right now, not for backorders =)"
So come Wednesday, I'll be adding my review to this post!
(And yeah, razer quality concerns aside, 80$ is pretty good for a budget mechanical keyboard, so I'm looking forward to trying it out and comparing it to the 6gv2 I used to own.)

cool looking forward to your review kambing

@PPPenetrate because people are pre-ordering it i order when it said est nov5 and i got it today on nov 5 should preorder now before they push up the date

Got my keyboard today. It's... a pretty nice upgrade from my last keyboard although one problem I might have is how the macro keys are placed really closely to the ctrl key which may cause problems with hotkeying in starcraft. Eh. I guess it'll just take time for me to get used to this.
One plus of this keyboard though is that you can completely remap the keyboard with ease after installing the driver.

There is no european version with Ö and Ä ?

There is no european version with Ö and Ä ? I'm pretty sure there is a european version, I saw a video with a german layout.

has anyone experienced the problem of the letter prints rubbing off yet? ive heard that its one of the many flaws of the blackwidow.

@auta
i can see how the letter prints would rub off (normal razer blackwidow) seems like it was paint on. Haven't happen to me yet just notice it now not sure about the razer blackwidow ultimate.

I don't know why keyboard manufacturers tend to change the key layouts. F-1 and F2 keys are completely missing!?
As an ex-EVE Online player I have grown accustomed to using the F-keys a lot.
In SC2 for instance ctrl-F1 selects idle workers, which I tend to use as well.
I can appreciate the keyboard being fairly inexpensive considering it's sporting mechanical switched, but the F-key situation makes it completely undesirable. Might as well spend $30 extra on a Filco and get the missing keys in the process.

@creamcorn
im not sure what pictures your looking at but it does have f1 and f2 keys

The first picture he posted: http://i.imgur.com/xl6lw.jpg
On the second look you are right, the image is blurry.
Ok, so I found what the keyboard should look like on Amazon and indeed it does have the F1 and F2 keys. However the F-keys are still shifted to the right, F1 is where F2 should be on standard keyboards.
I did a rough layout comparison, between the DasKey, Filco and Black Widow:
