What is your budget? Anything up to or around £900 roughly. What is your resolution? 1920 x 1080. What are you using it for? Pretty much exclusively gaming and as a main HUB for music/pictures/videos that I hope to organize on this machine. Games I'll be playing would be SC2, World of Warcraft, Team Fortress 2 (read:anything on steam :D) and any decent new releases in the future! What is your upgrade cycle? Would probably be 2 years ish seeing as this is my first time doing this ![]() When do you plan on building it? Whenever I firmly decide that all the parts I am looking at will work together and that I'm happy to part with so much money, so soon I hope. Do you plan on overclocking? Honestly can't say I've put much thought into this, if it saves money here and there then yes. But as I'd be doing this all from scratch I'm apprehensive. Sorry for the vagueness. Do you need an Operating System? No ![]() Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I do not think so. Where are you buying your parts from? I'm from England, so probably amazon.co.uk. Thanks for taking the time to look at this post!

Thank you in advance The difference between 1920x1080 and 1366x768 is pretty huge... there are in-between options as well y'know... e.g. 1440x900 and 1600x900. Have a look at this guideline. http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/49zb You'll basically want: - i3 2100 or 2120 if only ~$10 more at most (an i5 2400 fits in your budget too, up to you if you want to get more performance or save the $. The i3 is capable enough of any current game, though) - some H61 or H67 LGA1155 mobo with whatever particular feature(s) you are looking for, if any - 2x4GB 1.5V RAM because it's so cheap - some HDD - HD 6870 GPU at most (or nVidia equivalent GTX 560). Yes it would be overkill for 1366x768 but I encourage you to go for 1440x900 or 1600x900 19" screen at least. I have a 20" 1600x900 that I bought for my first build and I'm fine with it not being bigger and happy it's not smaller or lower resolution - a decent case such as the one I put in there - a good PSU: Antec and Corsair make the better low-priced units. Or an OCZ ZS550, a XFX Core 450, ... Also the parts in the store might be way more expensive, or have limited selection. You'd probably do best to select everything from NCIX and do pricematching and just have 1 order with them, I believe that's what skyR does usually. Newegg.ca blows, you play like $11 shipping on each item lol. EDIT: And with this post I have become a retarded Dragoon :D brb while it takes me 5 minutes to navigate through small doors to the kitchen as I get bugged out and dance around.

What is your budget? $600-$800 (if virtually impossible with what is needed, then the minimum) What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Gaming...but the only games would be SC2 (low / medium settings) and Diablo 3 (medium). What is your upgrade cycle? I would want to get enough with this build to last me until I totally rebuild a new computer. I will not be advancing to new games, just SC2/Diablo 3, so I don't really plan on upgrading components at all. When do you plan on building it? In roughly a month. Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an Operating System? Yes. Windows 7 preferred, but don't know if I need 32 or 64 bit Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Additional Parts Everything. (Monitor (16.9 ratio), case, psu, graphics/sound/ethernet card, hard drive, dvd, etc, etc....) The only things that I would use from my current computer would be my keyboard and mouse. Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg is where I feel most comfortable buying from, but I would branch out for better deals. Thank you!!

i3-2xxx processor (~$125) H61 mobo (~$50) 8 GB of RAM (~30) Quality 400w power supply (~$45) Low-medium end graphics card (~$100) DVD drive (~$20) Cheap case (~$40) Hard Drive (~$75) On-board sound card should be fine. Tower: a bit under $500, leaving you plenty of room for a monitor/peripherals/saving a few bucks off your budget Other peripherals you'll probably want: Cheapo speakers ($15) and/or or decent budget headphones ($40) with desk or clip-on mic (~$10) USB wireless thingy (if you need wireless) (~$20) Edit: Ah, I forgot, budget $100 for OS unless you're a student or academic (then its ~$65), which with a decent monitor will have you teetering at or a bit over $800. You'll want 64-bit since 32-bit has a limit on RAM.

Both your original choice of a Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus and the CX400 only has one 6pin PCIe connector so with either power supply, you would be required to use a molex to 6pin PCIe adapter for a 6870. The CX400 provides the same amount of power as your original choice for the power supply.

For my build, would the XFX Core Edition 550W for a couple dollars more (also from NCIX) make more sense? It seems to have 2x PCIe connectors and a bit more wattage. Thanks again for your help.

You don't actually need that much wattage for a modern system with Sandy Bridge and an HD 6870, or for future midrange gaming systems like that, so the extra capacity is not really much of an advantage. It's not as good, but if you don't want to use an adapter, also consider the OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W for $60 before $20 rebate, because it gets free shipping on the whole order. It's certainly still well above the Cooler Master originally selected. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=33040&promoid=1141

So I'm building up my computer, and my graphics card covers up the sata 1 slot where my hard drive should plug in. There are enough other sata's that I could just shift the cable over to sata 2, but I don't know if that's bad or not. Could someone clarify?

SATA 1 and 2 are almost always same type. But many motherboards have say... 4 SATA III 6gb/s and 2 slower Marvell SATA ports which you may not want to use (especially not with an SSD). They're often differently colored but you could easily check your manual to be sure. But also, if you switch around SATA ports after installing OS, you may have to change around the boot order in BIOS.

Ok so first off I'm really tired so this may not be the super tip top best for your buck and you might want to check on some of the things (like PSU being enough / too much, im never sure about that one, but its not a major cost). i5 2500 3.30GHz http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/processors/intelcorei3,i5andi71155socket/bx80623i52500.html MSI H67MA-E45 Intel H67 http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/intel1155h67,q67chipsetmotherboards/h67ma-e45(b3).html G.Skill Ripjaw 8GB (2x4GB) http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/memory-pc/ddr3-pc3-10666/1333mhz/f3-10666cl9d-8gbrl.html MSI GeForce GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC 1280MB GDDR5 (this card is a beast, can be overclocked a tonne safely, if you don't need it and want to save some money get a 560Ti, but this was in your budget and I love this card <3, runs BF3 on ultra np after some tweaking :D ) http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx570fermiseries/n570gtxtwinfrozriiioc.html OCZ StealthXStream2 600w (you could probably save a tenner and get a 500w one, check with someone else though, I'm no good at those things) http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/powersupplies/ocz600sxs2-uk.html Samsung S222BB 22x DVD+/-RW http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/opticaldrives/satadvdwriters/sh-s222bbbebe.html Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/sata500gbto1tb/st31000524as.html Antec Three Hundred http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/cases/cases/0761345-08300-3.html total ~ £750 spend the rest on a nice monitor. I think I've covered everything, you can only OC the graphics card, if you want to do processor in budget maybe just get a 560Ti and get a P67 mobo + the 2500k processor instead, probably better off with the 570 card though. You could also consider the 560Ti and getting an SSD as well, up to you.
