Nah, SSDs only improve load times. WoW is one of the few games where it can actually have an ingame advantage (entering a high population area) and even there the effect is quite small, from my experience. You do get addicted to 20 second cold boots though, once you have an SSD ![]()

$700 What is your resolution? 1366 x 768 What are you using it for? Mainly SC2, Diablo 3, and SW:tOR. I will also be using this comp for my college life starting this fall, going for Animations. So exetended use of Photoshop and ToonBoom, etc. What is your upgrade cycle? This will be the first PC I will be building. But pretty much around 3 years upgrade for buying a comp (Which sometimes isn't much of an upgrade, but just having a new item) When do you plan on building it? In a couple of days Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an OS? Yes, Windows 7 preferably Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Where are you buying your parts from? newegg.ca Please help me, this will be the first time for me to do this and I'm quite nervous about it

$1200-$1500 USD What is your resolution? I would like a new monitor, so obviously high. What are you using it for? I intend to use high end graphics and editing for photoshop, videos, and of course I'll be gaming. What is your upgrade cycle? I plan on buying a new computer every few years. When do you plan on building it? Sometime soon with taxes. Do you plan on overclocking? Not really sure if I would, no need for the most part unless it is so essential. Do you need an Operating System? Yes. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Put that down as a secondary option and show the price difference please, if you don't mind. Where are you buying your parts from? Northeast USA. So Newegg comes to mind, and anywhere else I can get a great deal.

This leaves you with ~$500 for a monitor - either a Dell Ultrasharp or 120Hz monitor is recommended. If you're doing CrossfireX / SLI, you should overclock. Otherwise, it's just dumb. If you don't want to do either, you can get a non-K suffix processor, a H67 motherboard, switch to a ~500w power supply, and get rid of the aftermarket heatsink - this would save roughly $100. If you just want to overclock, you can downgrade the power supply to a ~500w unit and switch to an Asrock P67 Pro3 which is about $40 in savings. Resolution: 1920x1080 Use: gaming (SC2, Diablo 3, possibly some FPS), HTPC, some coding work in Visual Studio Upgrade: >3 years if possible When: <1-2 months most likely Overclocking: possibly, not sure if I need to OS: already have SLI/CF: no Where: Toronto Already have a hard drive, HSF, Windows 7. Would like this thing to be relatively small and unobtrusive. Made a list of components in pcpartpicker as a possibility. Looking for feedback - is it likely these parts will be cheaper in the near future? Thanks in advance for the help! http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/48k3

Thanks in advance for the help! http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/48k3 2500k for $220: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=57962&promoid=1141 Buying memory from Newegg is just stupid because you pay nearly $10 or more for shipping. Same thing with the case... get a Bitfenix Merc Alpha for $40 instead of paying $50 for a case that's worth $20: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=63256 Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus isn't good. If you want to use an molex to PCIe adapter than get a CX400 for $45: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=33357 Get HIS 6870 for $160 instead: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=66643&promoid=1141 And no none of these components are likely to drop in pricing in the next two months. You may find a sale here and there that'll take like $10-$20 off the total but that's about it.

If you're interested in streaming, make sure to review R1CH's Stream Quality Guide, particularly the CPU section. The i5-2500k can stream 720p, but if budget is not a problem, an i7-2600k is somewhat better for streaming (not for most other uses). Unless streaming is one of your main uses for the computer though, the extra $100 will usually be nicer spent somewhere else, like monitor.

I'll probably just wait for Ivy Bridge and the new GPUs to come out in April, but it's good to know ~the cost of a PC that will stream 720p SC2. Thanks!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166046 rosewill, great reviews, great ratings, so far. but out of a small sample size.

That rosewill will probably work about as well as the ASUS usb stick you linked before. Maybe it would have slightly longer range if your computer is really far from your wireless adapter (but not higher data rate). Maybe. If you have super-fast internet, you'd want a direct wired ethernet connection anyway. If you have DSL or something, they'll all work the same. SC2 could probably be played on dialup. At least, I know I played BW on dial-up fine ![]() And it worked fine, although for the first few weeks I had to wave the dongle around. (Although I did have to download a firmware update to get some streaming services working right.) And this when what I bought was "the cheapest thing available at office max." So just pick one.
