Isn't it obvious that Extreme4 is better?

Not better for my wallet. My wallet says Pro3 SE is pretty good for single GPU gaming, mild overclocks, and possibility of upgrading to an only slightly handicapped multi-GPU configuration unless the resolutions are really high.

i have already ordered the parts os it is too late to change

Hope you got some sick dual 590's three way SLI 580's with 6 screen action going on in that sumbitch.

You would be idiotic to purchase an Extreme4 for three way SLI. People that have this kind of money don't buy Asrock.

Bah i miscorrected myself earlier since I checked again and landed on the extreme7. My sentiments are unchanged though.

Slang for Son of a bitch.
But seriously I was just messing around. I find the extreme4 has a lot of quirks and stuff on it that I can really just live without completely, and the Pro3 is one of this forums defacto choices for its low price.
That's what Shikyo was saying earlier. Generally speaking if you don't even know what some of the quirks these motherboards come with even mean, its fluff marketing you don't need. Also we tend to favor p67 mobo's since there is very rarely a need for integrated graphics support on these forums, but often you can find Z68 for good deals in their own right.
My SLI comment above was similar. In general I find that these lower line boards with Crossfire(4) and quad SLI support are in a very odd place. And most people will respond with "I would like a board that maybe has some ability to Crossfire or whatever down the line." But rarely will you ever hear "I'd like to keep my Quad GPU options open down the line" because those people generally have a lot of money and while I personally feel they have more dollars than sense, they don't need tech advice.

well it seems to be highly recommended. What would the minimum required graphics card be to run D3 and Skyrim on max Edit

Well not many people i know actually do quad gpu sli or crossfire. It is simply too expensive for most people

D3 runs on very little like SC2 does, as both games are CPU intensive. And Skyrim allows you to pour infinite resources into it. So neither questions are always clear to me.
First, what kind of resolution are you running?

I will be running on 1920x1080 gaming on a single monitor. (not sure if it effects the requirements) But i will have a second monitor for chat and what not

Well the reason why I asked is because Skyrim is an open-world outdoor game. This means that through the quick editing of ini files you can set the draw distance of things like grass to however far you want.
As for an actual card. I suppose a 560ti would handle everything quite well. 6950 is always good and I bet a 6870 will also do admirably but your mileage with that game may vary because that game is very open-ended about what "max" is. Also things like multisampling and the like which, after a point, add very minimal visual impact but a LOT of overhead.
On the topic of cards, ATI/AMD is set to release the new 7 series cards very very shortly, as in sometime next month, if you wish to hold off.

i dont know what that means sorry.

You could just get a normal 6950 and overclock it yourself and save some money BTW, but that's up to you. GPU's are really easy to tweak, beginner's can do it no prob.
What i meant earlier was, by editing some text files, you can set the distance at which things like grass is shown. To well beyond what the in-game interface actually provides you with. make sense? Drawing lots of really small things like grass is hard for your system to draw, so it cuts off at a distance away from your character, this can be changed.
|
oh ok so you mean that i can make the game less intensive if i change the distance to closer to my character. I think i get it. Could you post a link to a place where i could learn how to over clock a gpu or tell me how it would be appreciated.

It's hard to recommend any utility other than MSI Afterburner for overclocking.
Lots of tutorials on how to do it right out there. I can't break away to actually watch a video but here is one. + Show Spoiler +
Don't worry, you don't need an MSI product to use MSI Afterburner.

Ah thank you so much!! edit: Can i run 64bit windows 7 on a i5 2500k i am not sure what version of windows to get? @bellow Okiedokie

Yes get 64 Bit windows. I really don't see a reason why not to. Runs 32 bit programs (X86) like a champ anyway

Could you use the MSI afterburner with any make of card?
