Motherboard in tern requires new RAM. Since DDR3 RAM is cheap now, may as well get 8GB since it's not much more expensive, and some poorly-written flash stuff might be memory hogs? Your old optical drive seems to be IDE (PATA), not compatible with most new cheap motherboards, so there's a SATA optical drive also. The old CPU is not terrible though. I would consider just using it for a while longer. See below comparison for a rough idea, and note which benchmarks make use of all cores and which don't (most games and things you will do, will not use all cores). E7500 is just slightly faster than the E7400, while the i5-2400 is slightly faster than the i5-2310. The E7400/E7500 are the same chip, and same for i5-2310/i5-2400, just at different clock speeds: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/87?vs=363 So go for a new CPU which requires a new mobo, new RAM, new DVD. And you're also saying that my CPU isn't all that bad. So basically, if I understand you correctly, you're saying that I should wait and when I do upgrade I should upgrade Mobo,RAM,CPU and DVD all at once. So maybe wait until the i5 2500K has dropped in price and go for that one? Seems that everybody all over the place is getting that one.

Maybe you should provide with some evidence or clarification to what you are trying to get across instead of calling one the more knowledgeable posters on this subforum a troll...

If what I'm saying is absolutely absurd than please provide literal evidence of someone playing Battlefield 3 on max settings at constant sixty or even Starcraft II on max settings at constant sixty. This evidence isn't exactly hard to provide if what you say is true so I'm not sure why you dodging this. Hey look, it didn't even take me a minute to show that your goal isn't possible: http://www.twitch.tv/steven_bonnell_ii/b/300053812 He drops to 30 at ~11:10 and this isn't even at 100 supply and the funny thing is he's hovering at 30-60 for the rest of the game... and this isn't even Metro 2033 or Battlefield 3... Trolls are fun. I'm going to go back to dota2 now and someone can help him with a configuration since he doesn't want my help.

You would also need to save up more for an aftermarket heatsink and a P67 or Z68 motherboard. And yes it would be wise to save up to upgrade the three components (cpu, memory, motherboard) all at once because the LGA775 socket is old and there isn't anything worthwhile you can get for it that isn't outperformed by a current processor (which requires a new motherboard and new memory).

Here's the whole video: Here's a link to the RAM part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=nP8Q-7Mdztg#t=899s At 14:58 mark, the guy starts to talk about WHY he has the 64GB RAM and how he can convert it to memory like a hard drive and it blows the SSD speeds out of the water. My question is: How is this achieved? I think it'd be pretty sweet to try out and see how it works.

a 6950 will play bf3 on high @ 60fps, and you might be able to touch ultra if you turn off shit like AA, SSAO, post processing or whatever else they have going. on average, sure, but youll never constantly maintain it

What is your budget? Looking to spend up to $700 US though I need an OS as well (Windows7) so that leaves about $600 for the comp. What is your resolution? I’m going to be getting a new monitor, running 1920x1080. Looking for monitor recommendations in the $175 price range as well. What are you using it for? Mostly SC2 and eventually D3. Some FPS and racing games as well. Hoping to run SC2 at high with 60ish fps What is your upgrade cycle? About 3-4 years. When do you plan on building it? I’d like to buy parts within the next week. I can wait until black friday if that will save me some $$. Do you plan on overclocking? I haven’t overclocked before but I’d consider it if it fits within my budget. Do you need an Operating System? Yes, I will be getting windows 7. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope. Where are you buying your parts from? likely NCIX and/or newegg for their prices. Also I have a Fry’s store nearby.

But as far as playing on the resolution you suggested that computer would work pretty well.
