No. Processors & graphics card gain no bonus based on the manufacturer of the other component.

Hyia boys and girls, have already posted in this thread once recently, looking at building a computer to play BF3, wanting to pay 700-800, and have come up with the following build, would like to know IF the parts all work together, IF this will run BF3 fairly well on high, and otherwise what people would suggest I change and why!

Core i5 2400

radeon hd 6950

8G Kit 1333 G.Skill Ripjaws-X

G-B H61M-USB3

Cooler Master Elite 341 m-ATX Mini Tower Case

Seagate SATA3 500G

Antec Neo Eco 450

As you see this is budget, and it also has a mini tower so that it is easier to take with me. Yeah so please give me feedback, thank you ;D

@FireSa, looks like those components are compatible with each other
I dunno if you'll be able to do ultra settings on BF3, but you should play comfortably near it without AA & it doesn't look like there's much you can do to improve the CPU or GPU for that game without also increasing your budget around 100 dollars.

@Merkd

Depends on your monitor setup/mobo/games you play. If you play games on a normal 1920x1080 screen (25" or smaller) then a 560ti or 6950 will max out most games. Those they don't max out, will almost max out. But if you want tops in every game, a 570 or 6970 should do you fine.

If you have a 2560x1600 or so monitor or 3 1080 monitors in eyefinity or surround, then one 580 or something like crossfire 6950s is more reasonable. You'd want to check individual benchmarks for your favorite games to see which performs better for the game in this situation. Of course, you can only go SLI/Crossfire if your mobo supports it.

If you have a large TV (1920x1080) acting as a monitor and want to turn up AA, somewhere in between the two or closer to the second.

If your monitor has a lower resolution than 1920x1080 or you play non-graphics demanding games (SC2, LoL, etc), than a 560Ti or 6950 should be overkill.

But if you're not dissatisfied with current performance, waiting for the next-gen would save money as well.

Is this a good case? Seems like a case with a lot of useful features and I've seen it as low as about 50$ on some sites

You have to be more specific about what you play, your resolution and so on. Misterfred summarized it pretty well.

Ok well i play at 1920x1080 and basically want max settings on battlefield 3 and new releases on a similar level of demand on the graphics.

Asrock P67 Pro3 is a good mobo for the price and offers pretty good connectivity and features for a single gpu setup. I like the UEFI as well, but that can be a bit of a preference.

Honestly, if I were you I'd get a 1GB 6950 if I was impatient and wanted to upgrade now. You can still play on ultra BF3 with a 6950. You might get occasional slowdowns, but frankly you'll get occasional slowdowns with a 580 or more expensive graphics cards as well (CPU limitations).

If I wanted sheer raw GPU power, I'd wait until the next generation of GPUs come out, since it looks like the higher end should be out in Jan/Feb.

Why would you get ATI for battlefield 3? It's much better for Nvidia cards. Even GTX 580 has trouble averaging 60 fps at ultra so the 250$ cards won't be able to do that either. GTX 560 Ti and GTX 570 are still the best options for that game.

The 6950 does a lot better than the 560-ti in bf3 (atleast on 1080p). If you disable AA it will even come close to the performance of the gtx570.

Edit: It seems part of the issue is with AA/AF. Apparently Nvidia handles AA for BF3 a little better than AMD/ATI, while otherwise AMD/ATI does a bit better. So with high AA/AF settings, Nvidia might be a better choice. I don't personally find AA/AF all that useful, but to each their own.

I'm slow again today .

In the benchmarks I looked at, Nvidia did not have a significant advantage over AMD/ATI and the 6950 was playable at ultra.

In every benchmark of BF3 I've seen, the 6950 beats the 560Ti by a small margin. Most of those benchmarks were on 'high' quality settings. On ultra, the 6950 generally got a tad under 40fps on average. Playable. And as you said, the 580 has trouble averaging 60fps on ultra, so if Merkd really wanted to overkill the game with a single card, he'll have to wait for the next gen of cards. I have no idea where your perceptions of an Nvidia bias in the game comes from. Maybe you've looked at it a lot more in depth than I have. But common benchmarks don't show that. Not that Nvidia is a bad choice for the game. Rather, it seems the cards perform in line with what one would expect.

It would depend on what he wants to do with it.
but for starters, that 6850 is too expensive, http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=63985&vpn=HD685XZCFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1190 is just an example.
you will also need to pricematch stuff like the processor ( http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200BD5176&vpn=BX80623I52400&manufacture=INTEL ) when you live in canada. You should save 5$ on optical drive.
If you/he is on a budget, try making it yourself and save 50$, and possibly get Windows with university discount.

It would depend on what he wants to do with it.
but for starters, that 6850 is too expensive, you will also need to pricematch stuff like the processor ( http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200BD5176&vpn=BX80623I52400&manufacture=INTEL ) when you live in canada.
If you/he is on a budget, try making it yourself and save 50$, and possibly get Windows with university discount.

theres no way around the 50$ installation fee and the win7 copy

Well I assume its for gaming, but I would suggest you clarify that for quicker answer from someone more knowledgeable.
