The only thing I'll add to skyr's build is that if it's absolutely necessary to stay below 700 change processor to this: pricematch www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59192&vpn=BX80623I32120 with www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950BD4011

so as its a 520w psu with such a crappy 12v rail I assume it lists peak power in which case the continuous power would be around 24a I believe. So basically, no unless it's a sandybridge CPU and even then I'd replace it.

Whats the brand and the model number of your psu?
28a on the 12v rail is more like a 350-400W psu. If its a decent unit (which I highly doubt) It could probably run the card.
So either open up your computer case and take a picture or give us the model numbe r+ brand.

As I said, a 520w unit that lists 28A on the 12V rail is not a quality unit and as such is generally going to be listing peak power instead of constant power so I'd say the rail's actually less than 28A.

Not really, depends on the purpose. I guess it's ok if you're upgrading from Athlon II x2 or something.

By the way, this is a CPU bottleneck if I've ever seen one:

And I thought that this store was an honorable one -.-

Listing peak power doesn't make it a bad power supply. Andyson does it all the time and they do have some pretty decent/good PSU's.
Liteon allso does it and I've seen FSP do it too.

Those might all not be the best, but they create perfectly serviceable psu's.

Corsair does it too.

I'm pretty sure all Corsair power supplies are rated for continuous power.

This PSU is a 520w PSU that rates 12V rail at 28A.

Do you even understand what that implies?

Yes, but realisticly some of their psu's should be rated lower. For example the cx430 should be a 380 or 400W unit looking at the 12v rail.

It implies its a 350-400W psu and that the brand that sold it where most likely lying or that its a very old model. The wattage over the 12v rail doesn't say anything about the quality of the unit.

Link me to a high quality power supply thats 12v rail is 65% of the total power? Oh you can't?

Well then, link me to a low quality power supply that rates by continuous power and is honest about it. Maybe that would be possible...

All I said was that according to the 12v to max wattage ratio, it's probably a low quality PSU which means that it's likely rated by max amperage, which means that the practical amperage you should consider on 12v is maybe 24A.

You dont understand what im saying. Besides, I never said it would be a high quality power supply. I said that it might be perfectly serviceable as a ~400W psu.

As for some examples:
My own psu, hiper type R. Its a 580W psu with 360W over the 12v rail. Its a good powersupply. The only thinhg wrong with it, is that its old.
Another example is the andyson e-series(nuclear). the nuclear 850 is a good 750W unit with 650W over the 12v rail.

650W on 12v rail on a 750w unit is actually pretty normal for 80+ or 80+ bronze units

Also I don't think your hiper would pass my "good psu" requirements.

There's "good" 500w FSP power supplies that have 15A on the 12v rail. By good I assume you mean, they don't explode? That's not what I mean by good.

Also all I was saying was, it'll be rated by max amperage so the effective amperage is lower. You haven't been arguing against this point at all. What's your point?

According to andyson Its a 850W units (which it can do)
/facepalm

Allso stop saying good, cus thats what you're making of it.

For the last time, im talking about if its serviceable. Serviceable means that it wont go out of spec and/or damage other components or blow up.

Also all I was saying was, it'll be rated by max amperage so the effective amperage is lower. You haven't been arguing against this point at all. What's your point?

that makes no sense since the ocp trip point mostly is higher than whats on the sticker.

My point is that you can say something is bad if you dont even know what kind of unit it is.
but as I said before, its probably a crappy unit, but it might be servicable as a 400W unit.

850W is peak power 750w is continuous power it lists both o_o read the label
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/fullimage.php?image=33864

Even if it's serviceable as a 400w unit my point is that the 12v is probably rated by max amperage and so you should instead think of it as like 24A or somesuch for practical purposes.

I still don't understand what you're arguing about so I guess you can have fun doing that

As i said, its rated by peak power since they call it Nuclear 850 and not nuclear 750.

Ps.
I'm not argueing, im correcting you because you're making ungrounded assumptions. You're telling someone his psu sux without even knowing what unit it is. I have to agree that its proabably not very good or pretty old. But without knowing more you can't say whether its a bad unit or not.

I went ahead and went with the i7-3930k should be here by wednesday or friday, but I had a quick question on additional cooling, right now I will be recieving the gaia 30$ cooler with 2011 bracket so thats fine and dandy(will only clock to ~4k), but I want to push the OC to about 4.4 or 4.5 safely so these are my two options im considering unless you have a better idea.

Noctua NH-DH14 SE2011
http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=41&lng=en (Newegg doesn't have it available yet, but I was able to find it on Amazon and a couple other sites for 85-95$, most places haven't recieved thier stock yet just released this month)

or

CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181016

No rush on ordering, but ideas and advice would be appreciated. Will be ordering new heatsink or liquid cooling before Christmas time this year.

gaia should be totally fine for 4.4 - 4.5ghz. Try with that first gosh.

Also I'd go for silver arrow if necessary and if they get a 2011 bracket but NH-D14 is pretty good. Still gaia should be enough.
