im upgrading to intel for the first time ever!
2500k + MSI P67A-G43 (B3) for $230 + tax at micro center, such a good deal... some quick questions tho:
is the motherboard good enough for OCing? and i should reinstall my OS after i put in the new board right? I plan on using the same stuff in my case right now: haf 922 6950 2gb 8gb DDR3 1600 hyper n520 700w corsair

Yes the G43 is good enough for overclocking and yes you should do a fresh installation of Windows.

How much power does a card in Physx draw, when not in use?
Is it idle power, or does nVidia sleep the card? I just want a loose idea.

"Sleeping the card" doesn't exist because its plugged straight in a PCIe slot and directly connected to the PCIe plugs. It will draw as much power as its typical idle load.

By sleeping i mean downclocking the card to something like 200 mhz.

Yeah and we call that idling. All video cards have power management presets for idle, medium load, and full load or something along these lines. HD5770s idle at 157mhz, when all the user is doing desktopy stuff, for instance.
These downlocking/upclocking driver tricks for power management are actually the reason why AMD card can crash during medium loads like Flash. The clock and memory speeds are incorrect so the drivers don't know what to do. Its also the reason why plugging two different monitors into nVidia cards causes a huge spike in power draw - the cards are tricked into thinking they're running a 3D game and thus are clocked accordingly.
If you want something better, the best thing to do is hope that nVidia brings that Optimus technology to desktops.

Hello all I am replacing my old vista and hope I could gather some opinions regarding what would be the best choice, money isn't that big of a issue, but I would rather get the best cards for a reasonable price. I will be running crossfire or sli, with the following monitors: 27" Widescreen 1920x1080 and my current 22" 1023x768
The cards I have been looking into are: GTX 570 1.2 GB x2, GTX 570 2.5GB x 2, HD 6950 x2, HD 6970 x2.
I will be using a z68 chipset with sandy bridge i7-2600
Also what are the pros and cons of running two SSD's in raid over one larger SSD.

make sure to get 2600 K, if you also get z68 chipset for overclocking!!
pros: none, maybe more "combined space" or just theoretically more longetivity due to less read/write operations on 1 SSD cons: performance loss due to crappy raid controller most of the time, get 1 SSD for system/starcraft/etc. and 1 7200rpm HDD for all non-important games, photos, music etc...

Why SLI with a such a small resolution. Also, what happened to that computer you bought with the SLI GTX580s?

A single GTX560 Ti or HD6950. But what happened to that computer you bought with the SLI GTX580s??

Simple, I never bought that computer. I was just took a different approach. I have been browsing forums for almost 2 weeks researching parts, thank you for the information.

Hey guys I just wanted to start off by saying thanks for all the help you gave me earlier on my build. I've got everything together and I'm just waiting on my copy of Windows 7
I did have a question though, when I was building my computer an experienced friend of mine was helping me out and he recommended I get an aftermarket heatsink/fan for my i5 2400, he said that the heatsink/fan that comes with it is really crappy. What's your opinion on this? I have decided that I will overclock sometime in the future so I'm probably gonna get an aftermarket fan anyways, what price range do you guys suggest I should go for with the heatsink?
Also, I asked this probably 30 pages back but if I wanted to get a sound card for gaming with some nice Bose headphones (the same kind day9 uses, actually) what kind of soundcard do you guys suggest?

Im pretty sure you are not really overclocking i5 2400.

The stock heatsink/fan is fine if you don't overclock, which you can't with the i5 2400. If you're having heat problems, then either the heatsink isn't mounted properly or the airflow through the case is very poor. But under normal circumstances, there's no need to replace the stock heatsink except if the noise is too high for your taste.
