thanks for the input, but what heatsink do you suggest assuming that i dont overclock then?

The stock heatsink/fan is fine if you don't overclock, which you can't with the i5 2400. If you're having heat problems, then either the heatsink isn't mounted properly or the airflow through the case is very poor. But under normal circumstances, there's no need to replace the stock heatsink except if the noise is too high for your taste.

Thanks! I'll probably just keep the stock one then.

Also, I just realized he was talking about overclocking the GPU not the CPU

Heya everyone, original thread got deleted, have to presume that it was because it was unnecessary. Just wanted for someone to provide a build to my needs.

What i want it for :
Gaming - Max settings on all current and upcoming games with almost constant 60fps+.
Streaming ( 1080p if possible, 720p is ok too)

Games i want to be able play on max settings:
Crysis 2 (benchmark)
BF3
Guild Wars 2
HoTS
Skyrim
Diablo 3
Any more upcoming, graphical intensive games.

With streaming:
Starcraft 2 + HoTS

Budget:
$1500 - $2000
(Converted from GBP)

Where i live:
UK, England, south-east, if that matters.

Local providers;
Pcworld.co.uk (avoid if possible)
Overclockers.co.uk
Can't think of any others. England is not a great place for Enthusiast Gaming.

What i need:
Monitor - 1 more monitor, preferably 22 / 23" (streaming monitor), already have a 1680x1050 19" one. 120 / 60 hz??

PSU - Don't want to cut it close, a quality 700 - 800W should be good

CPU - ivybridge? I7 2600k?

GPU - Would prefer SLI, however, may not be in this budget

RAM - 8gb, any more is a waste IMO, 1333mhz is fine

MOBO - Should be highly overclockable, Z68??

Cooling - would prefer liquid, but if appropiate, air is fine

Soundcard - Any, not picky, at all.

Microphone - If you can find a good one which is in the budget.

What i dont need:
Case - I have a mid-tower case, if i need a new one for space, that's ok. (would prefer to keep my old case as it is an awesome, and, to my knowledge, it's pretty rare)

Peripherals - Mouse, keyboard, headphones etc..

Need a OS?
Yes. W7 if possible.

Can i assemble myself? And when will i be assembling it?
Most likely, no. After christmas.
Would be helpful if you could link me to a company / business that assembles for decent prices in the UK.

How long should it last?
2 years (more if possible for my budget)

When do i need it by?
Christmas

Upgrade cycle?
Will try to last this build as long as i can, hopefully wont have to upgrade until 3-5 years.

Hey guys, slightly outdated, but it's a pretty sick deal. $125 for a 5850 card (including shipping), no rebates involved. http://1saleaday.com/?CID=168142&AFID=178621

I am upgrading my computer as well. The specifications at the moment are:
+ Show Spoiler +

The motherboard,RAM and processor are from summer of '09. The graphicscard is a XFX 4890 XXX and are bought the same time as the powesupply, March '10. The C: (Hitachi, where I have the OS) together with the DVD are the only really old ones. They are from a HP that I got early in '06.

At the moment it is SC2, Mafia 2, Portal 2 and sometimes BFBC 2 that I play. They run quite good at the settings I am using ATM. I know that I won't be able to have the maximum settings and I am not looking for that either. I don't have any games that I am really looking forward to.

One thing that is annoying is that sometimes when I have several flash applications running, mostly 2 and sometimes 2+, then the applications starts to lag heavily. I don't know if it is some settings that needs to be changed or if the upgrade will do the trick. Even if this problem can be fixed changing some settings, I still look to upgrade.

The budget for me is somewhere around 2000 - 3000 SEK which is roughly equivalent to 300-400 USD. I have no idea at all where my money is best invested so that is why I am looking to TL for help. Any information that I missed out on that is of use, please don't hesitate to ask. I will gladly help you since you try to help me.

All help is welcomed with open arms, thank you!

EDIT:

Forgot to answer some questions:

+ Show Spoiler +
What is your upgrade cycle?
- Not that often. Usually when things are getting too slow or stops working.

When do you plan on building it?
- Early December probably.

Do you plan on overclocking?
- Never done that and probably never will. But if there is a very small difference in price, why not go for one that is possible to overclock...

Do you need an Operating System?
- Not at all. Got that covered.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
- Nope.

Where are you buying your parts from?
- The major players on the swedish market when it comes to computer parts are probably:
* www.inet.se
* www.dustinhome.se
* www.komplett.se

So I will probably buy from one of them. Probably dustinhome, but not guranteed.

Thanks again!

You're looking for a new CPU probably, which requires a new motherboard. Motherboard in tern requires new RAM. Since DDR3 RAM is cheap now, may as well get 8GB since it's not much more expensive, and some poorly-written flash stuff might be memory hogs? Your old optical drive seems to be IDE (PATA), not compatible with most new cheap motherboards, so there's a SATA optical drive also.

The old CPU is not terrible though. I would consider just using it for a while longer.

See below comparison for a rough idea, and note which benchmarks make use of all cores and which don't (most games and things you will do, will not use all cores). E7500 is just slightly faster than the E7400, while the i5-2400 is slightly faster than the i5-2310. The E7400/E7500 are the same chip, and same for i5-2310/i5-2400, just at different clock speeds:

Why don't you just rebuy the same items or similar ones? I'm not sure why you had a 630w unit to begin with though when such a configuration is going to be using less than 200w during load.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I said I would post my updated build, and I've been asking around other sites.

CPU+Mobo: $140 AMD Phenom IIX4 970+Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+
http://www.microcenter.com/specials/promotions/AMDbundlePROMO.html

RAM: $32 CORSAIR XMS3 8GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145315

HDD: $95 Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s. I'm trying hard not to recommend 320GB drives at $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136770

GPU: $145 SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

PSU: $65 SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094

Case: $32 COOLER MASTER Elite 370
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=55447

So a few notes. I was recommended this on tomshardware (don't know your opinion about this). While the HD is 320gb I think it's fine for what my needs are. I downgraded the recommended 6870 to a 6850 because the sale ended. What do you guys think? If you don't like it I'll post my original build that I wanted.

You said you aren't purchasing until after Christmas which is extremely vague and you said you aren't assembling it yourself. Whatever configuration is linked is not going to be relevant in pricing or parts in x weeks. And unless you find a retailer who has a wide selection and assembles at a fee, it's not like you have a say in anything that comes in a prebuilt.

Ivybridge isn't coming out until March / April of next year so it's pretty pointless to ask for a configuration right now when most of the components won't be relevant by that time.

You did not specify why the integrated audio is not adequate and what you need a sound card for.

You also did not specify your case so we don't know how big your case is.

Good luck achieving a constant sixty frames per second on max settings and streaming at 1080p at the same time without getting a flagship SLI LGA2011 system and even than, it wouldn't be possible. Your goal is unrealistic and even if your goal was realistic, your budget isn't capable of achieving such a goal.

Tomshardware is terrible and so is the build.

I'm not sure if you want to factor in money you don't have or not since you are doing it for the memory but not for the GPU.

There are 500gb HDDs available at less than $100.

Why would you sacrifice performance to get a Seasonic S12II 520? Especially when you're getting a card that requires one 6pin PCIe connector and won't be overclocking (and if you planned to overclock, good luck considering how its a four phase board with no mosfet heatsinks).

Again, it doesn't make sense to put money into memory before CPU and GPU.

Ok, integrated is fine

I have absolutely NO clue why you think this? Could you give a reason when i've seen destiny's build stream in BRILLIANT 1080p quality on Ultra and achieve a average ~ 70 fps. And his build cost him around $1500.

Ivybridge isn't coming out until March / April of next year so it's pretty pointless to ask for a configuration right now when most of the components won't be relevant by that time

The Ivybridge part is a QUESTION, note the QUESTION mark. I was merely asking whether it would be worth it for my needs to wait for ivybridge.

There is a big difference between the definition of average and the definition of constant. If definition differs from what is in the dictionary than please specify.

There is also a big difference between running Starcraft II on ultra and running games such as Metro 2033 and Battlefield 3 on max settings with AA/AF.

I have absolutely no clue why you think running not only the current games and also the upcoming games at a constant of sixty frames per second is possible. And even at a sixty average, this is not possible.

I'm sorry that I can't read minds. A question mark does not only signify a question but also uncertainty and possibility... There are about a dozen things you can interpret from "Ivybridge?"

Saying a mid-tower case means absolutely shit. Some mid tower cases won't be capable of fitting the flagship cards, won't be capable of fitting some heatsinks, and won't be capable of fitting the high-end radiators.

You honestly think that the kind of setup i'm looking for cannot handle BF3 at maxed settings with pretty much constant 60 fps? If you dont, i dont understand your thinking at all.

Are you saying that no machine on the planet can run constant / almost constant 60 fps in sc2???

That remark in bold ensured me you are trolling.

* There is literally video evidence of Destiny not dropping below 60 fps on ultra.... Maybe his build would not handle 1080p streaming + ultra + 4v4 but there is vods out there of him playing sc2 on ultra no problem.

There is no computer right now capable of running constant sixty frames per second in Starcraft II or Battlefield 3 on max settings. Obviously I don't mean staring at a corner of the map but actually legitimately playing the game. The fact that you think otherwise would suggest you're the one trolling.

Please link to literal evidence because the video I briefly watched has him dropping to as low as thirty which by vague definition I guess would be considered "almost" sixty.

There is a difference between playing with no problem and what you're trying to achieve.
