1333mhz is enough, for crossfire imo the best affordable board seems to be the Extreme4:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157229 it'll be like 50$ cheaper if you didn't want the option(or can do with a weaker board but I'm not sure how intelligent that is with xfiring)

PSU is slightly overkill and pretty weak, look into alternatives. This would be an example if you don't mind MIRs:

Oh btw nevermind, this Liberty Eco gets kind of hot. Generally that's what you expect if efficiency is lower, since...uh, there's more waste heat to exhaust. It's not much of an indicator of anything other than a higher load and waste heat being produced though. Higher temperature isn't going to directly mean that performance will be worse. As long as the internal temperatures don't get too hot and the components can handle what's going on, it should be okay.

At full load, 24C intake results in 53C exhaust:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story2&reid=136

At full load, Seasonic X560 24C intake -> 29C exhaust:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story2&reid=202

I'm going to guess it's not a TruePower New you have? Maybe Basiq Plus? edit: oh wait if it's that old, then it probably has lower efficiency and hence the heat.

okay sorry but where did he say its Eco?

You're right nevermind...I was confused by the "GXx" since the old Liberty was DXX, so that was just a typo. If it's the old Liberty it's still probably fine since it won't get pushed to 500W with the current build, it hasn't been pushed hard in the past, and the secondary side caps are 105C Chemi-Cons anyway. I wouldn't be too worried about old Enermax units unless you're looking at some of the newer NAXN / Tomahawk units, which are terrible (and not manufactured by them).

I guess I should have more faith in my supply. It is a very glorious PSU for its age.

already replaced the Intel Stock one, no concern there but for now i will not OVC maybe in 2-3 Years depends on the advancement in requirements

Nah a 500W PSU like that in 4 years probably can't properly output more than 450w anymore and considering the energy usage of a 580 I really would feel uncomfortable if I was overclocking with it. Not to mention he seems to have the money to spare, might have just bought a 1.5gb 580 and a platinum 550W PSU.

the Age was one concern of mine for now I will not OVC and keep a eye out on signs should something be wrong with the PSU

Yeah pretty sure for the cost of that build we could have built a way better PC. Like with Crossfire (3 or 4) 6950's or something. That's my general thoughts I guess.

The supply should be AOK. PSU's age like an asian woman. They get to there teenage years and stay there forever. Then they go downhill all at once immediately.

I specificly wanted to avoid anything SLI or Crossfire related I am not trusting multiple GPUs who first of all take off a Ton of Space and are connected by a little Plastic strap, there are a couple other Reasons

First is Micro Ruggler or Micro Lags I guess it would be in English, it was the First Problem that existed with Multiple GPU Setups and I dont believe they completly gotten rid of it., it is a mechanical problem that lies not in the Technology but in the in the Material Side the Connection Cable to connect more than one GPU can never have a perfect instant connection. Reports I read indicate very few Hardware Labs are using multiple GPUs for the exact Reason, then there is the higher noise, the hassle when one goes defect etc maybe its just me but I am not trusting the SLI Crossfire thing and want it to avoid as long as possible.
Better to have 1 Powerful Card than a bunch of Cards.

and yes I am aware it was a Expensive but its supposed to last me 4 Years I dont do gradually Updates to Hardware anymore only Big ones at Keypoints.

Thanks for all the input btw, before usage i cleaned out the PSU, and worked on the Air Circulation in my case for the millionth Time -.- heres hoping it will last.

I give up, I just don't know what to write here.

Ok so I originally posted this:

+ Show Spoiler +
Hello TL Tech Thread,

I am a long time reader and SC player / new member / new poster and a novice when it comes computer builds. I've only learned what I've read over the past few months from basically this site but I still wanted to try and put together a computer (with the help from a friend with more knowledge). That being said, I write today to show you what I've currently put together and hopefully get some advice from those of you with much more experience (I'm looking at you JingleHell, sKyR, Myrmidon and anyone else who can help). I am not looking to reach the $500 budget but rather want to make sure that everything I have listed will be able to work for what I am looking to do without missing out on an opportunity to bump up the proficiency of the desktop for pretty much the same price.

What is your budget?

Currently I am not looking to really spend more than $300-500 total.

What is your resolution?

I am was planning on using a 19 inch Memorex flat screen TV which I was told is 1920x720.

What are you using it for?

Just the basic stuff (i.e., internet browsing, word processing) and SC2 and possibly D3 (although at this point in time I really only care about SC2 and not really willing / able to spend the extra on getting what might be needed for D3). I'd like to play SC2 on the highest setting that I can (comfortably) in the price range that I've already listed (I'm currently running in on a MBP from 2007 at all lowest settings and consistently hitting 10-15 FPS, 30 FPS at best).

What is your upgrade cycle?

Over the next year or so I could see myself having more money to upgrade certain parts that might be needed to play D3. But past that probably not for another 3-4 years.

When do you plan on building it?

Very soon. Probably looking to put it together in the next week.

Do you plan on overclocking?

Not at this current time. Yes, I realize the i5 2500K is meant for OCing and it a waste (from what I've previously read) to get if not for OCing purposes, but with the deal I figured I couldn't pass it up / possibly I will try to OC in the future.

Do you need an Operating System?

No.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Micro Center

Here is what I have so far:
i5 2500K = $159 (Thanks to the deal at micro center right now)

Micro Center 4 GB DDR3-1333 =$19.99
Antec Two Hundred V2 ATX Mid Tower = $27.99 (after rebate)
ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM R3 LGA 1155 H61 mATX = $69.99
Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W ATX = $29.99
XFX HD667XZHF3 AMD Radeon HD 6670 1024MB DDR3 = $69.99 (after rebate)
Kingwing 120x120mm Long Life Bearing Case Fan = $5.98

Total = ~$430 with taxes

Anything that I've excluded like the HDD you can assume that I already have (hopefully I do). I hope that I have listed everything that is needed for you guys to help me out, but if I have forgotten something (or I've listed something that is incredibly stupid) please be gentle. I am a noob at this. Thanks so much in advance for your help.

JingleHell recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162062
GTS 450 (for the GPU) which I am totally fine with, but I am planning on building this tomorrow so I don't have time to order something from NewEgg and would like to be able to buy it (or something similar in price / performance) at MC.

Any recommendations / thoughts? I was looking at this maybe?: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0374796 or http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0347121

Alternatively I guess I could just wait on the GPU, order it off NewEgg and install it later?

Thanks everyone.

Both of those are overpriced. If you can't go without a GPU than you can make your purchase from Microcenter but the smarter choice would be to use the IGP until your GPU arrives from Newegg. Newegg shipping is generally really fast.

Yeah, Newegg has multiple warehouses, and the free shipping is UPS guaranteed 3day.

They don't process on Sunday, though, so if you order early Monday, you'll see it no later than Thursday. The price I found is obscenely good, the prices you found are just obscene. I checked MC and Frys before newegg, and neither had a good deal in that performance range.

Hey I have an Asus P8P67 Rev 3.0 - New P67 B3 Revision and an i5 2500k I'm thinking of getting a CPU cooler recommendations? I would like to buy it from http://pccasegear.com/ but will settle for a different Australian site if needed, Also what is the difficulty in removing the stock cooler? and replacing it? Budget probably around $80 AUD max.

Also whats are some good SSD I could get for around $200 AUD

Uhm, well, Womwomwom is from Australia and tends to suggest the Xigmatek gaia as a cooler. Good (usually) inexpensive air cooler. Easier to install than other similarly priced units with similar performance, like the Hyper212+.

Removal of stock heatsink isn't difficult. You just turn the four notches to the unlock position and than remove the heatsink.

For SSDs, you should be looking at Crucial M4 and Intel 320 unless you really want to deal with potential headaches associated with Sandforce SSDs.

Hyper 212+ Pretty much the same cooler, reasonably priced, just a harder install. Try to have a second competent pair of hands around when you put it on, helps loads.

For $6 more I'd get the Gelid Tranquillo Rev. 2 instead, I think:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23_845&products_id=17924

Extreme cooling is unnecessary for a i5-2500k anyway, so this isn't a critical pick.

Also not terrible, and has to be easier to mount, which really is a consideration for most. Definitely better cooler too.

I'd pay $6 for an easier to mount cooler as the only ones I've put in are stock coolers from an AMD and the i5 2500k

AMD's cooler mounting system is by far the easiest: its basically pop in and pull leaver. Back when AMD processors were really popular, I remember installing it and thinking "is this all there is to it?"

The Hyper 212+ is an absolute bastard to install in comparison. Not only is the use of two hands a necessity, the middle clamping bracket is an absolute bastard to use properly because you're never quite sure whether or not you've mounted the cooler properly.

The Gelid also has the benefits of being shorter than most tower coolers so you can probably clear cases with side fans like the NZXT Phantom and Antec P193.

Yeah, seriously.

I think part of the instructions on the Hyper 212+ needs to be
