I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right places, but I built a PC on Ibuypower, then went and did the same on 2 sites with individual parts from the PC that were similar or identical and it came out the same price. I normally spend about 1100-1300 for a PC. Is there something about Ibuypower that they cheap out on? I'm very satisfied with my current PC from them.. Well it would help if you actually posted your comparison since you're probably doing it wrong. And ya Ibuypower might be comparable if you want the same individual components that won't make a difference (eg. 2GB on a shitty GTX 560 or 1866MHz memory) in gaming. Is this a good build? CPU: i5 3570K GPU :Amd Hd Radeon 7850 That's a quarter of the build but ya your quarter build is good given the lack of information you provided. OK just to give a small example I think I customized on Ibuypower something similar to this compuer http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Gamer_Paladin_D875Its listed at 1579- can get it down to about 1500 with a few tweaks. I tried to build that on tigerdirect..and could not get any cheaper... Now maybe that is the case with the high end stuff, but unless I did something totally wrong I didn't find "building your own" to be much more effective here. If you can find otherwise, I'd definitely be interested to know!
Well if you are trying to make an identical build than yes it's obviously going to be more expensive as I already mentioned but if you actually optimized the build, it would be less expensive and likely better. One of the advantages of building yourself is selecting the components you actually need / want, that's how you end up saving money.
The C70 Military Green is like $50 more expensive than the standard Black variant. Does colour matter to you? Does how the case look even matter? If not... then you can save lots of money on the case.
That build has an old 3820 and a $250 motherboard. A core i7 3770k is roughly the same price as the 3820 but is going to perform slightly better due to its newer architecture plus the motherboard cost is going to be cut in half.
Are you even going to be doing anything that requires the hyperthreading of the i7?? If you're just going to be gaming than ya, you're throwing away $300 on shit that won't be used. Is there a point to having shit that won't be used besides showing off?
Are you even going to be overclocking? If not then you can save like $150+ on the motherboard and getting rid of the $50+ heatsink.
The EVGA GTX 670 Superclocked is overpriced. You have similar / better cards that are pre-overclocked to the levels of the Superclocked SKU for like $50 less.
There are better / similar power supplies to the NZXT Hale82 for less money (or same) plus you wouldn't need a 650w unit unless you plan on doing SLI.
There are better SSDs than the A-DATA S510 for less / same price.
Do you even use Blu-ray? My guess would be no.
Plus there's all the mail in rebates which would equate to like $50-$100.
So to summarize, if this is a gaming build and/or you won't be overclocking and/or care about aesthetics than a significantly better build can be had for the same price.

@Irre. Well the ibuypower computer doesn't have the best selection of components for gaming. You can get a computer with just as much performance for less. Maybe not with the exact same parts, but you wouldn't want the exact same parts. The selection below is what you could get now. It's geared for gaming, and for a user who doesn't intend to overclock. In fact, the two main ways it is inferior to the ibuypower computer is that it cannot be overclocked (would cost $120 or so for overclocking capacity) and that it cannot be upgraded to a 2-video card system (would cost $75 or so for dual-video card capacity, not counting the second video card). The ibuypower keyboard may or may not be better. The computer below has a DVD-burner instead of blu-ray player. The mouse I selected is superior to the ibuypower mouse option, however. The configuration below is superior in that it will provide basically the same gaming power and is $453 less (total: $1126 dollars, not counting some rebates). Just over $500 less if you go with a 7950 instead of a 670 for graphics card, which I'd recommend. Yes, that's a lot of savings. Enough for a kick-ass monitor.
Bit Fenix Ghost, a sound dampening case, $80 (the exact one in the ibuypower build would be $40 more, but it wouldn't offer you anything more in terms of performance. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=73006&vpn=BFC-GHO-300-KKN1-RP&manufacture=BitFenix&promoid=1285
i5-3470 processor, $185. For gaming this is going to be equal to or superior to the ibuypower processor. Assuming you didn't intend to overclock (costs $50 for a small overclock if you go through ibuypower anyway). If you did intend to overclock, then you'd go with an i5-3570k ($215). Don't get hung up on the difference between i7 & i5 like most new to components - it only indicates hyperthreading, which is not useful for gaming (marginally useful if streaming, maybe). http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=72279&vpn=BX80637I53470&manufacture=Intel&promoid=1285
MSI B75M motherboard, $65. This is cheaper than the motherboard on ibuypower because it cannot overclock & it is smaller. A full sized motherboard that can overclock the i5-3570k (+ an appropriate heatsink) would be about $80 more. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=74886&vpn=B75MA-E33&manufacture=MSI/MicroStar
2x4gb 1600mhz Mushkin RAM, $38. This is less than the amount of memory on the ibuypower computer for a simple reason: there's no reason to get more than 8gb unless you think 16gb sounds cooler. Like a hard drive with nothing on it, more memory won't add performance. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=54963&vpn=996776&manufacture=Mushkin Enhanced
MSI GTX 670, $360. I picked the same card as the ibuypower computer for reference purposes. Though I'd prefer a Sapphire Radeon 7950 at $300 or a 7970 at $387. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127675 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709 600286767 600286740&IsNodeId=1&name=Radeon HD 7970 )
PSU: XFX 550w, $60. This is less wattage than the PSU on the ibuypower website, but that one has way more wattage than it needs to. This one is already overkill for the system it will power. And it is of equal or higher quality. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=59615&vpn=P1550SXXB9&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1285
SSD: Samsung 840, $100. Basically the same thing as the SSD on the ibuypower website. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=77210&vpn=MZ-7TD120BW&manufacture=Samsung Memory & Storage&promoid=1285
HDD: Seagate 1TB, $68. Basically the same thing as the SSD on the ibuypower website. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=65701&vpn=ST1000DM003&manufacture=Seagate&promoid=1285
DVD-player, $16 No, it's not a blu-ray player. But the only purpose of a blu-ray player is to play blu-ray movies or whatnot from blu-ray discs. And if you already have a library of blu-ray discs, you probably already have a blu-ray player. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=45244&vpn=IHAS124-04&manufacture=Liteon&promoid=1285
Windows 8, $85. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=77180&promoid=1285
Keyboard: some cheapo, ~$10
Cheapo Speakers, $11 These are the same speakers as the ibuypower computer, though you might want better. http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=32150&vpn=980-000012&manufacture=Logitech
Mionix Naos 3200 mouse, $48 http://www.amazon.com/Mionix-Naos-Wired-LED-optical-Mouse/dp/B0041SPG24/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355530364&sr=8-1&keywords=mionix naos 3200

What is your resolution? 1920x1080.
What are you using it for? sc2 planetside2 and possibly streaming.
What is your upgrade cycle? 5+ years
When do you plan on building it? probably next month don't worry about specials general price ranges are fine(ill probly buy parts up till next month as i see parts go on special
Do you plan on overclocking? YES
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No
Where are you buying your parts from? I have no local venues so newegg and tiger direct are only places i know of.
I have 800w power supply from my previous comp(yes my first comp i bought was overpriced with parts i didn't need and was amd) i I have a hdd with 7200 rpm
I need a case (as plain as possible less lights the better) ssd cpu i am buying the Intel Core i5-3570K from tiger direct for $189(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2373004&Sku=I69-3570K GPU operating system (is it too early to get windows 8?) The 3570k is actually $205 before mail in rebate so this would put the total at $616 + ~$100 for Windows 8 or 7.

so i DESPERATELY need a new computer. I have been looking for a barebones kit that fits in my price range of about 400. I could go higher but my wife (im 23 lol) would be super pissed if i spent more than that. basically what im looking for is this....
a system that can handle WoL, HotS with almost no lag on medium/high
an easy to upgrade video card (non integrated graphics)
$400 and under
a good and fast cpu
So pretty simple. Thanks guys.

Ok thanks for the info! I read on many pages about people who have heat problems with their CPU so I just wanted to make sure.

I found a Music backup that my brother made 5 years ago. Its 3GB of MPEG4 files on a DVD. However half way through the copy the DVD burner spins down and my transfer rate plummets (from ~10mb/s to 250kb/s), then the transfer precedes to stall. Anybody know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
I don't think the DVD burner is bad, I can still install games and watch movies on it fine.

What is my resolution?Well, currently I play on highest resolution on my computer, which is 1680x1050. I would however like to play on 1920 × 1080.What am I using it for?Entertainment. Gaming mostly. Watching some videos, listening to some music and so on. What is my upgrade cycle?I usually have my technology for 3 years+. I know how to take care of it, and how to maintain it. So yeah, my upgrade cycle is 3 years at the bare minimum. (I'm not sure if I understood this question entirely correctly) When do I plan on building it?I plan on building it in the early 2013. Jan, Feb, Mar. I'm not saying that I am building it over 3 months, these are just some of the months I am most likely going to build it on. Do I plan on overclocking?Nope. Do I need an OS?No, I'm in MSDS. Do I plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?I'm not entirely sure. That is for you guys to decide with the budget I have set, kept in mind. Where am I buying my parts from?Well, I'm from Denmark. Just north of Germany. Shops are pretty expensive in Denmark, and you are not 100% sure that you can get all the new parts that other countries might have access to, but keep in mind I live close to germany. Thank you guys for this thread, I see that it has helped lots of people, and you deserve some recognition for your work. Regards, Dejan // Nuf

I think people were unhype to respond because the build date was so imprecise. We always like to post current good deals to get people better prices. Sales change from week to week, so unless you're actually buying soon, there's not too much point in posting suggestions.
Plenty of German shops ship across Europe and have decent prices. Would you be interested in that? I forget what the best retailer in Denmark is, but I'm sure it was worse anyway.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Yes, I am 100% sure that german retailers would almost always be cheaper than the danish one. If you could give me a good idea of a build, given the current details - you know, a good basic foundation. It's very thoughtful of you to take my "planning to buy" time in to consideration, but I will most likely get it at January, or when they do that shift in technology early next year.
So if I were to buy it in January, less than a month from now, I guess that would be an acceptable time frame?

Well, sale pricing in Europe is often not as extreme, so a build now should work (or just need minor tweaks later). New technology may be coming April or something like that, so not around January.
If you were to buy from Germany, how many Euros would be budget be? Or Danish Krone?
|
Well pricing in europe is actually fairly good if you know where to look and hunt for deals
i know amazon has really good sales from time to time, but don't really advertize them
and for france (dunno for other countrys), we have awesome sales twice a year (just as an example, a year ago we had like gtx560ti go down to 120€ , Bequiet! straigth power i think 400w go down to 40, etc...)
just did a build for a friend for 520€ was able to get a 7950 in it with an i3 and an SSD

Well, I'm looking to spend around 1000$ Looking forward to answers/builds

How good is the GTX 560 Ti?
I just bought it and am wondering what sort of FPS it will get.
|
It depends of the game? For SC2, it will play it on ultra no problem at 1080p, your cpu will be limiting FPS factor
|
What about other games? how will it do?
e.g Far Cry 3, BF3, other new games I dont know yet
