What is your budget? Around 1k US, give or take a couple hundred What is your resolution? 1920x1080. What are you using it for? Mainly gaming. What is your upgrade cycle? ~4 years When do you plan on building it? Within the next month, unless there is a good reason to wait out Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an Operating System? No. I also don't require a SSD. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Unsure. Whatever makes the most sense for the given budget. Where are you buying your parts from? Likely an online retailer such as newegg or tigerdirect

There's absolutely no way to make a $1000 gaming build that makes any sense for 1080p60 with no overclocking, no OS needed, no SSD.

I was planning on purchasing a single monitor along with the comp purchase, though I don't have anything specific in mind. Any recommendations would help if there is one that someone would suggest in the 24 inch range. $1,000 was a somewhat arbitrary number. I'm mainly looking for something that will manage the current games on a fairly high settings and something that will last me 3-4 years. Thanks!

Otherwise, I'd say something like Dell U2412HM (1920x1200 eIPS) or even the cheaper BenQ GW2450 (1920x1080 AMVA). I recently bought that one in the HM version, gotta say it's a great buy for it's cost. There you can read it's review.

About 800$ but I can go a bit over. What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Gaming and possibly streaming if it's good enough. What is your upgrade cycle? Um, I'm not sure, this'll be my first time putting together a computer so I really don't know. When do you plan on building it? Mid-Jan to Late Feb Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an Operating System? No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg I have a list of parts I'm planning on using with advice and recommendations from a friend of mine but I'd like some more opinions. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E7fXTGvuB-i8KZdLZgDooQL6WggB5gtGYTiXOeVBN2c/edit

Never take hardware advice from your friend ever again. FX4100 sucks... A core i3 is significantly better for gaming. Even the older Phenom II X4 is better. Motherboard is too expensive... especially when you can't afford good products elsewhere. Gaming does not come close to using 8gb.... yet alone 16gb. Plus 1866MHz memory is a stupid way to throw away money since it only provides 1-2 FPS over the typical 1600MHz cas9 memory which can be had for like $30. Throw your money away on the CPU, GPU, and every other component first before on stupid memory... Kingston SSDNow V+200 sucks in comparison to Samsung 830, Samsung 840, Intel 520, Crucial M4, and a dozen more SSDs that can be found for the same price or less. And unless you plan on doing nothing but play only Starcraft II and a few other games, I'd suggest you get a HDD since 128gb is very little space. 7750 is better than the 6670 for the same price or less. These two cards aren't exactly powerful enough to play the latest games on reasonably high settings at a comfortable framerate though... so depending on the games you are going to play, I'd suggest you to consider putting off the SSD until later and spending more on the GPU. Power supply.. meh Case.. meh. DVD burner overpriced at $19.

Edit: Just to be clear, you should be thankful SkyR told you straight up that build sucks. Now you won't buy that selection of parts.

Except maybe the first line, it could be written more ambiguously. Honesty is not Elitism. I suggest you learn about computer hardware, before deciding to act upon your friends advice. Nothing like making an informed decision right? That being said with the exception of Belial88, none of us would recommend an AMD processor currently.
