Though I can only remember the Vendetta and the Tempest. Edit: Oh yeah mean PSUs. The only OCZ PSUs worth considering are the ModXStream Pro line, Fatal1ty line, and the Z-series. The Z-series is completely out of your range though. As for the ModXStream Pros, I believe they are made by Sirtec and I have never heard anything good about the ModXStreams. I remember reading a very bad review of them on a benchmark site, but I cannot remember where it was. What I do remember is that it uses Chinese capacitors which are normally pretty bad ;_; I could not recommend a ModXStream OCZ, but if you want to buy one go for it. I think kofgokuon has an OCZ PSU (not sure what it is) I don't know about the Fatal1ty line though. Maybe it's higher quality? Apparently the Fatal1ty line does not use Japanese capacitors, but Taiwanese capacitors, though the guy seemed to have a positive reaction. http://www.pcshoptalk.com/showthread.php?25542-OCZ-Fatal1ty-550W-Power-Supply-Review

a friend of mine has a 600 W modxstream pro. I mean, it's anecdotal in that it's only 2 data points, but fwiw ours work fine.

I wish I'd just bought a 550 W PSU originally so that I'd feel more secure with my PSU but between overclocking and having a decent number of HD's I probably should get something a little bigger with more head room for further upgrades a friend of mine has a 600 W modxstream pro. Depends what the peak output is on the 500w modxstream, 5850 can run well on a 500w if it's a good one although if you oc alot and have alot of peripherals/ram/hdd's etc you might run into an issue, but ionno about shit from ocz their psu's in the past have been skimpy although they did acquire pc power and cooling awhile back but ionno if they just did that to boost their rep for psu's or to acutlly benefit from better psu design.

as for OCZ and PC Power & Cooling: I don't believe any of their power supplies have actually benefited from the acquisition yet ![]()

This wouldn't be a bad choice.

Windows 7 x64 with 4 gigs RAM I'm playing on medium (1900x1200) because anything higher will slow down. If I turn the settings to Ultra, I get 25 FPS at the very beginning (!!) of the game on a 2v2 and it feels like 5 FPS or lower. Messing with the settings shows that I'm being GPU bottlenecked (increasing CPU settings like physics doesn't decrease FPS) but temps and GPU use are fine. Conversely, I get 30-40 FPS with everything maxxed out on Bioshock 2 and it feels perfectly smooth. I think something's off.

You'll be under 250 watts under load :-) Notice that an overclocked GTS 250 with i7 3.2 ghz quadcore is under 240 watts: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gts-250,2172-10.html Most people grossly overestimate their power supply requirements. However, many low quality power supplies are incapable of supplying more than half their wattage on the 12 volt rail (which is what all major components use) or are simply dysfunctional. Edit: That's at AC source, and PSUs are around 80% efficient.. so more like under 192 watts for their system. Of course, that wasn't with the quad totally maxxed out, but you get the point.

1. is 3gb of ddr2 enough RAM? when i run SC2, almost 55% of my memory is taken up. this is just from sitting in the lobby. when I 2v2, i noticed the it goes up to 80% and more. 2. does hot weather fuck up a weak gpu? it's been really hot the past weekend, and my sc2 and consequently my entire computer has froze up multiple times. is it the weather/overheating? or is it patch 13?

3GB of DDR2 should be adequate for high at least. I think Blizzard has said 4GB is recommended for Ultra (I think, not sure if I could find original source).

Windows uses your RAM to cache programs and such and reports the memory as "in use" (cached, etc) but it will free it if needed. Unless you've got a ton of stuff going on you have nothing to worry about. Think about it this way: 32 bit games will actually crash if they use more than 1.5-2 gigs of RAM. You're fine. Regarding temperatures: If your GPU fan can't cool itself, the GPU will throttle and the game will slow down. However, this may not be enough and then your computer crashes. You're burning up your GPU, this is bad. Here is a good tool to check fan speed and temps, there are many others. If your GPU is at like 90 celsius and the fan isn't at max, something is wrong. If the fan is at max and the GPU goes to like 95-100, you NEED more cooling. You can buy case fans or a bigger aftermarket fan for your GPU.

I posted this in the Bliz forums but got no responses from anyone, so hopefully you can be more insightful. I am playing the Mac client with the following Macbook Pro specs: MacBookPro5,3 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 4 GB Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB I am experience weird FPS oscillations, both in game and while in the B.net menus. In game my FPS oscillates between 60 and 15, and in the menus it oscillates between 22 and 60. I am playing on the default settings for my computer (medium). I'm not sure if the problem existed before Patch 13 or not - I have just recently noticed it via the ctrl+alt+f command to show FPS. Anyhow, if anyone has experienced this or has any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks in advance

At the moment, the same hardware on a Mac will run worse than PC hardware because SC2 has not been fully optimized.
