i5 650 3.2ghz 4 gig ddr3 nvidia geforce 9800gt 1 gig ddr2 1600x1200 resolution i run everything on high, and i can run it an ultra but the fps sits around 20 and i notice a differnt, but on high its 45-55 (in any given moment of a game) so my question is this? if the human eye can't detect past 30 fps then wouldn't it make sense to have a system that runs everything on ultra or high but only needing to be at a minimum of 30 fps?

There is a notable difference in FPS between 60 and 30. I can't really tell the difference above 60ish, but 60 is much much smoother when it comes to games than 30. 50-60FPS is generally considered playable for RTS. It's just that physics professors don't play enough video games :p

I want to get a new Dell desktop at some point this year, one that will hopefully run SC2 at max or near-max settings. All of your processor, RAM, etc benchmarks can be met easily using the cheaper Inspiron line; however, all of these come with cheap Intel integrated video cards, with optional "upgrades" that wouldn't give me any choice in picking a graphics card at all and would also require me to buy a bunch of other crap with them. The only other way to get a decent graphics card with the computer is to buy one of their so-called "gaming line," which are way more expensive and come with a bunch of crap I neither need nor want. So, my question is, if I get, say, a Dell Inspiron 5800 with an i3 processor, 320 gigs of hard drive space, 4 gigs of RAM, and a complimentary "Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD," could I then separately buy a good ATI graphics card (say, the ATI 5770) and upgrade my computer with it? How easy/difficult would this upgrade process be (that is, would it be a simple enough task for me to perform myself without much in the way of expert knowledge)? I realize this is probably a pretty stupid question, so thanks in advance. ![]()

However, if the PSU was ample enough, it would be a fairly simple process. You should still consider building a computer though.

Plus, i think that maybe would void you warranty or something.

Taking my above plan off the table, then, what would you recommend as the cheapest way to buy/build a computer that could run SC2 on near-max to max settings? I realize this is asking a lot, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. ![]()

I used to have a link to the study for that particular piece of info but I lost it years ago

It seems every spec of the Samsung Laptop completely outclasses the Asus. 2.26 GHz i5 > 2.13 GHz Core 2 Duo, GTX 260M < GT 330 M, and 4GB DDR3 RAM > 4GB DDR2 RAM. @ ReMaDe, could you provide links to those 3 laptops? I am in need of a new machine so I may be interested in buying one of those. Asus Samsung Toshiba I had some problem getting links to work in an IRC the other day so if it doesn't work, let me know. Or, search for them by model numbers: Asus Model: G60VX-RBBX05 | SKU: 9556072 Samsung Model: G60VX-RBBX05 | SKU: 9556072 Toshiba Model: A505-S6033 | SKU: 9705203

GPU: Nvidia 9800GT Resolution: 1680x1050 RAM: 3GB DDR2 Setting: Everything on UItra, except textures which are on High. I get 40+ FPS, big battles drop it down to the low 30s.

could you please recommend me what should I buy in order to run SC2 smoothly at high settings if I have $1000 budget (desktop comp) I just need Case, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Video Card, fast HDD and Windows 7 (64 bit or not)? I hope this comp will be able to run Diablo III on high settings too when it will be released
