Also, from the other side of the gate: Getting soundly beaten by a legitimately superior player (in the matchup) has always been part of life. Back in the Broodwar days, all you had to go on to play a game was a pub server that gave you win/loss counts. Blizzard's Sc2 matchmaking is exceptional. People are spoiled nowadays.

Yes winning is fun, but getting completely outplayed to the point where it's basically hopeless shows you the bare extent of your reach. Do you accept that you're not good enough from a bad loss? Or do you prove the opposite! Let the evil Smurfs darken the Outlook of our capacity to grow efficiently only by giving in to their dark temptations. And whatever you do, don't call them daddy.

You're not joking. I just "played" about 10 games queing unranked. It placed me against people playing ranked literally every match. I asked them over ALL chat and once they said they were playing ranked, I left. My reason is that I don't want to play against people trying harder than I am for ranked wins than I ever would while playing unranked. Is this game really that dead or is this just the dumbest way to match people up for a competitive match ever dumped out of Blizzard's ass?

It is probably to reduce the waitingtime to get a match. Especially playing "unranked", getting a good game at certain MMR-ranges might be next to impossible. Playing ranked on alt-accounts or off-servers might be a better idea than unranked.

There is no difference between ranked and unranked ladder exept for the unranked your mmr is hidden. Why would you want to play against people who are not trying hard though? And how do you even measure the effort..

Insitelol You are right, there is no difference in the way the unranked/ranked system works...it is the people playing in the two different categories where the difference lies. MMR works great on paper if everyone is putting in the same honest effort, but people are more likely to put varying levels of effort (maybe a lot, maybe none) in when playing unranked than when trying to remain consistent/improve their skill when qued for ranked. The que also does not tell you if you are playing vs someone qued for ranked (consistent effort) or vs someone unranked (varying effort). This is already dishonest and ruins the competitive nature of having a purely ranked que. Also, I didn't say I wanted to play against people not trying hard. I want to play against people who are trying around as hard as I am as much as possible, but that is not the case when they place a player in unranked que with a player in ranked que without either of them knowing. I don't want to play against someone who is ranked top master, but decides to play unranked where they are rated plat/diamond, then for some reason they decide to try in unranked (because they are human and can decide to put in more or less effort, and not robots that would try the exact amount their MMR reflected) and smoke me making me lose ranked MMR to someone I would never have faced in ranked if it were not for the unranked and ranked ques being merged. The effort is measured by the score screen. It shows build order, APM, etc and replays which show, frame by frame, the difference in skill/effort. Do you really not know how this game measures effort or was the, "And how do you even measure the effort.." just an incomplete thought that trailed off as you realized it's clearly displayed after the game? The trailing "..." had me confused if it was an actual question or just a random thought you typed out.

You might be on to something with the alt-accounts. I guess reducing waiting time by making ranked/unranked essentially the same is Blizzards decision to make. Just sucks to have to play the game that way when it's the only competitive game I have played that does that.
