Since there aren't enough GOAT threads in the forum, I would like to bring up the argument that Maru is GOAT by GSL Code S medal count.

Here's I'm only counting tournaments that have "GSL Code S" in their names, so no Open Season, Super Tournament, Blizz/HotSix Cup, GSL v World, Global/World Championship, SSL, OSL, etc., because those are all far inferior tournaments to Code S and dumb.

(Bronze is 3rd/4th place, so each Code S awards 2 bronze medals)

As you can see, Maru is GOAT for having 8 Code S medals, while soO is fated to be number 2 in every single ranking.

Also Stats is the only one with the 1-1-1 Code S build.

Interestingly, if you go by Olympics medal ranking rule, i.e. # of Gold > # of Silver > # of Bronze, Mvp would still be ranked number one if Maru loses Classic. Just goes to show that Mvp is still relevant in the GOAT debate even to this day. Definitely the King of WoL.

Whole methodology is flawed. Bronze is not a medal in GSL, the 3rd-4th place match is not even played. And it's a ridiculous placement anyways, what the hell is so great about finished 3rd? Football players have loathed the Bronze match at the world cup for ages, and with good reason.

Maru is probably the greatest GSL-player ever. But there are no third places in GSL. Also, Maru can be the best without op trolling:
"because those are all far inferior tournaments to Code S and dumb."

What do you mean?

He mentioned GSL doesn't have 3rd place and that its kinda pointles-ish because every GSL rewards with 2 3rd places

Edit> Also it is still an acomplishment, getting top 4 in the world

I know, and he proceeded to use it in his method anyway, hence my post.

And yes, Ro4 finish is impressive. Ro8 is also impressive, but proportionally less of course, so drawing a line at Ro4 is arbitrary, and inventing "Bronze" is just silly.

How are they inferior exactly? The OSL that Maru won literally ran instead of Code S that season, while having the same players/prize pool/was points.

The reason it was called OSL instead of GSL was because OGN broadcasted the playoffs that season.

SSL in 2015/2016 was basically the same as GSL as well. The 2017 SSL is debatable I guess

It wasn't inferior in any way like you say. However (a lot of) people didn't accept another good tournament and only valued GSL which is also why the viewer numbers of SSL/OSL were quite a lot lower.

People valued OSL just as high at the time (like 2012-2013) iirc. Its only now people don't care about them because they stomped running and GSL carried on.

Just how proleague results are basically ignored in every GOAT discussion nowadays. Even though in SC2's prime is was more important than individual leagues for many players.

Imagine if Maru won 2 GSL in HotS instead of OSL/SSL. People would agreed he was GOAT for a while now.
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

Ah the forgotten ones...
I only remember Sniper winning a GSL due to a trivia game during HomeStory cup when nobody remembered him winning a season.

FruitDealer and jjakji are up there, too. And missing in the ranking.
