Today DreamHack is proud to announce our continued expansion, and the launch of DreamHack’s first event in Canada, which will take place August 12-14th in Montreal, Canada. The event will be hosted at Place Bonaventure, located centrally in Montreal. The event will feature the core DreamHack components, BYOC LAN party, international esports and the DreamExpo.
“DreamHack Montreal represents our commitment and dedication to continue to grow the DreamHack phenonem and reach even more visitors at live events.” Said Marcus Lindmark, CEO of DreamHack, “We are tremendously excited to launch this event in the Summer, working together with many of the experienced crew from Lan ETS, and bring the DreamHack experience to some of the most passionate esports & gaming fans in the World in Canada.”
“We are honored to be a part of DreamHack Canada and especially to start the adventure in Montreal.” Said Simon Marin, President of DreamHack Canada, “We want to bring the complete DreamHack experience in Canada and Montreal is a no-brainer as a first stop with its recognized LAN Party culture and massive BYOC attendance growth at Lan ETS since 2012. We are excited to bring the ultimate eSports experience on Canadian soil!”
The event will be hosted at Place Bonaventure for the first year, and DreamHack will aim to continue with an annual tradition starting with DreamHack Montreal 2016. When exploring different locations to continue expansion in North America, Montreal became a very obvious choice, due to both the proven gaming and LAN party culture in the city, but also the entire country of Canada, which is a chronically under-served esports market.
DreamHack Montreal will feature at least two major international esports tournaments, as well as activities for visitors across all titles in fighting games, PC games and console games. Alongside this there will the obvious BYOC LAN party for visitors to take in, Cosplay contents and more. All attendees are encouraged to help get involved and join the volunteer crew to help shape DreamHack Montreal to be what the visitors want it to be!
Tickets for DreamHack Montreal will be announce soon, so be sure to stay tuned to http://montreal.dreamhack.com and stay up to date on the happenings of the event as more details get released! Any inquiries regarding the event should be sent to info@dreamhack.ca.
I could not be more excited for Montreal! If anyone wants to know the best places to eat there, let me know!
Great city, Place Bonaventure is directly downtown of the city and it's a medium-sized venue imo. Getting around Montreal (and even to and from the island) is pretty easy and comfortable, don't worry.

If its another tournament without koreans (no, polt/hydra dont count), ill officially be ashame to say that im from quebec, a province supporting the joke that is the new region lock rule. I will avoid this tournament at all cost, and make sure all my friends that are into e sport do not watch.
If koreans are allowed though, ill do the opposite and encourage every one to watch it, might even drive to MTL to watch it.

''crossing fingers''
The province/city/country have noting to say in who come and who don't come, that is only dreamhack and Blizz prerogatives.
Unless you mean that if people come to the tournament with no Koreans they support the rule, wich I don't realy think is the case but I can see the logic.
Anyway I still hope like you that there is going to be Koreans. But sadly I would be very surprise, it just cost so much more money to have Korean the way Blizz organize the system.
So we are not even sure it's going to be sc2 yet right? DH have dabbled in every ESPORT so it is going to be interesting the two they pick right? Heyoka spill the beans please

Keep hope alive SGTK. When one day an event does arrive lets make it the most epic esports event in history (unfortunately it'll probably happen along with signs of the apocalypse at this rate, but as long as humanity goes out with a bang I'd consider it worth.)

Are you gonna go if it's sc2?
Nooo, that is many distance. I was just wondering as we have news'd it with SC2 when we do not even know SC2 is going to be involved It might be CSGO and Heroes of the Storm for all we know. Or Dota2 and CSGO etc.

Vancouver's closest major cities within a 6 hour driving time are Seattle and Victoria.
Within 6 hours driving time to Montreal, you have Toronto, New York, Boston, Ottawa, Quebec City, and more (although border crossing would add more time from the US).
It's a no brainer to choose a city within that area for the first Dreamhack Canada event. I'm surprised though that they didn't choose Toronto though because that's a guaranteed turnout (I'm sure they had their reasons to pick Montreal).
As for Calgary and Edmonton, those two cities are in the middle of nowhere and it would be much more difficult to get a larger turnout than Toronto or Montreal.
The main advantage of Vancouver is that I don't think there has been a "premier" SC2 e-sports tournament in Vancouver before. That could possibly drive the turnout because it hasn't happened before. But if it's the first time for Dreamhack in Canada, it's better to choose a location with a guaranteed turnout (which makes it surprising they didn't choose Toronto).

I'm glad they chose Montreal- too much of a focus on Toronto imo. It's a good idea to branch out and get more events across Canada (especially in easy cities like Montreal which are not only reasonably big but also good for location) rather than have literally every event ever in Toronto.
I'd be happy to see an event in West Canada too, but the concerns are real

I would rather they have a guaranteed turnout - or even a turnout that surpasses expectations if its their first time in Canada. If that happens, we could see additional Dreamhack events in other Canadian cities. But if the the turnout in Montreal is "meh," they may not come back to Canada.

I wouldn't worry about turn out. Quebec is video game crazy. CS GO and whatever MOBA they have is going to bring in a huge and very loud crowd.
Hopefully they have sc2. I will be honest though, I don't know many sc2 fanatics here, but there are a lot of RTS fans. And kiwikaki!

I'm in Ottawa and I'll be making the trip
Yeah, not to mention the fact that many big cites are not very far from Montreal!

Toronto is a 6 hour drive from Montreal my gf lives in Aylmer and its typically a 5,5 hour drive. ya i guess if you leave Toronto at 1am from Warden and 401 it is a 6 hour drive. thanks for the laugh.
if you want to be careful with your health you should budget an 8 hour drive from Toronto to Montreal with a 30 minute break in Kingston.

Doing ~120 on the highway from Ottawa to Toronto takes roughly 4 hours, and it definitely takes under 6 hours to drive from Toronto to MTL unless you are going way below the limit

Traffic can be a real bitch. I've spent 2 hours stuck on the 401 at off times on multiple occasions. Compounding that, traffic getting into Montreal can be bad too, though it's usually fine.
