Time has come to say farewell ... Today I raise the voice with a crying and a laughing eye to the world. Crying, because an era comes to an end: Team Acer will cease to exist. Laughing, because each project also has to come to an end and we all who were involved can look back at 5 successful years. I want to thank all my current and former players and staff for their commitment and wish them all, especially the current athletes, a very successful future career in esports. I must also acknowledge the outstanding support we got from fans all over the world and I would be pleased if all of them would continue to cheer for the players, regardless where they play in the future. Last but not least I would like to thank Acer, who has made this project possible during the last 5 years. I know that many of you are wondering and speculating about the reason, but as in all walks of life as well the modern e-sports is subject to change. Plans and strategies change and projects start and will be terminated. And that is exactly what happened today with Team Acer.
In this sense, let me say again: A big thank you to players, staff, fans and sponsors and let us never forget the last 5 years.

From first observation of this news, I would imagine all of them. I can't think of any Taiwanese companies that have title sponsorship of foreign teams now that Acer is gone.

Liquid Scarlett FIGHTING!!
Sorry I don't follow the scene much anymore, but is she serious about another try at competitive SC2? Or is she just playing for fun again like Thorzain? Yeah she's been ACER for so long it will take some time getting used to see her under a different tag.
So long Acer, thanks for the memories D: BannedTwitchMeme
Thanks Acer, been a wild ride. Hope all the players that want to find a new home that matches their needs.
Really hope someone good picks up Bly, this kid is gonna have a really good 2016 I hope, really starting to mature into a great player and love his aggro style xD

Anyway, thanks for all the great stuff Team Acer produced, it was a great time!
No real statement yet, just the manager and communication staff saying how happy they were to be a part of the adventure ect...Probably tomorrow for the big wall of text.
This is what's on their website (but it laggs a lot )

Sad, if a bit expected. Nerchio leaving seemed like a pretty good indication that Acer was on its way out of esports. Its going to be so strange to see Scarlett and Bly playing without the iconic green Acer logo Thanks for the amazing memories Acer! I will never forget the Acer teamstory cups and GSTL runs. RIP
GG, thanks for the memories Acer. One of the strongest foreign teams beside liquid. Loved the ATC and many of the players who passed through their ranks

You are supposed to be writing your name on your new TL contract, not writing on the forum!
I'll check your fan club thread, maybe there's what's in your future

As someone who had cancer himself I feel deeply disgusted of the comparisons some guys in this thread do. Comparing a tournament format to a DEAD SERIOUS desease just proves that some guys in this community keep beeing highly disrespectful.

OR... The big company is not in a position to support esports at this time. You can look up the 5 year stock value yourself and see how dire things are today compared to 2010.
It's unfortunate, but not absolutely indicative of any problem with the "something" you refer to.
sad to see Acer go but thanks for all the memories! At least u guys ended on your own terms & not amid a scandal like some other teams around here. U had a great run, thanks to all
Not good news. I watched often teamstory cup (Remember Khaldor always casting a recent editon). This days I see a lot of starcraft's pieces disappear and I fear we can't always say that it's wcs' foult...

E-sports is like American soccer. I've been hearing about an imminent breakthrough since the US World Cup in early 90s. It has yet to happen. I believe MLS is still losing money. Hasn't stopped rich people from throwing money at it.

you can't really compare soccer to esports, soccer has been around for generations and just isn't traditionally popular in america whereas esports is something that's growing because it never existed before (and is also many different games whereas soccer is one!)
Bye Acer, thanks for supporting SC2 over the years.
They did have teams in multiple games, but SC2 was their main game as far as I can tell. SC2 players earned 91% of their overall prize money earnings according to this site. So it's quite possible this does have something to do with the current state of SC2.
LIQUID SCARLET!!! <3 <3 Thank you so much acer for the amazing games, tournaments and people; will have many fond memories! Best of luck to everyone involved!
5 years was a good run. For a team. And for the game as a whole. Acer MMA Acer Scarlett never forget (SCREW YOU INNOVATION DENYING SOO HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE AS GSL CHAMPION - now that game is daed soo will never get gold)
Good bye Team Acer, thank you for all the years put in the team. Don't know about the logistics of why the team is being closed but i'm sure it was well thought out before coming to this.
Acer was one of the coolest SC2 teams ever. Thanks for being a pillar of the community for so long, and I wish you all the best in whatever you do next.

just to add to ur point... American soccer has been "breaking through" since 1975. Pele attracted a lot of sellouts and the #1 European football video game was NASL Soccer.... 40+ years and lots of rich people who love european football keep throwing money down the drain.

The arguments are almost the same too. In American soccer, the growing number of Hispanic immigrants is supposed to make it popular enough to break through. In e-sports, it's supposed to be people who grew up playing videogames.
Well, the first people who grew up playing videogames are in their 40s now, maybe 50s. It's still the most likely hobby to be dropped once people start families and get more responsibilities in life. It's something to keep in mind whenever we see these debates about casualization. Plenty of hardcore gaming students decry the casualization of videogames until they get a job, become a homeowner, get married, have kids, become casual themselves, never to be heard from in a gaming forum ever again. It's still a very time consuming hobby that requires a massive time commitment. TV watching is still much easier to pick up and drop anytime.
I've been watching Starcraft since the days of the PGL and when Agent911 and Tillerman were duking it out for Blizzard champion. Who has heard of those guys recently? I know Zileas ended up in Riot after a stint at Blizzard. They were talking about e-sports already then. Same old song and dance. It's still pretty much for young people. Most of the biggest e-sports cheerleaders won't even remember their arguments here 10 years from now when their videogaming consists of sneaking a game of Clash of Clans in their dark office cubicle.
