this makes me not like life, lol

Game 3 and 4 definitely harder to defend drop attacks, Life made mistakes of selecting all armies? So did Maru for not walling properly and watching counter attacks. 1 mine planted in blind-spot areas is enough to at least warn an incoming ling run-by. Maru was too confident to let lings come in, even in games he won. He's used to defending ling run-by, other zerg would have been okay, but these are Life's lings, they are more deadly.
In all the games, they are all very fast paced, and almost no pause at all. Both of them surely made a lot of mistakes.

Maru absolutely had the final game won just from map spawns, so I don't feel too bad about Life winning it in the way he did. Either way it was sort of like a coinflip, heh. They do. The problem is there's at least a hundred pros and they all carry styles that apply to different maps as a result. There is no map that is universally liked by every single pro or universally disliked, and it's not just a matter of races. It's just an inherit problem with maps, really. You'll never have a map pool where everyone likes every map, both in competitive play and casual play. We could have 7x reskinned and rotated Overgrowth. As silly as it sounds that would be actually much better than anything we had last year.

And of course, since it went to the final game, they were required to play on this map which should just have never been made. The very least IEM could do is eliminate close spawns on it... Expedition Lost isn't really that good of a map either, but it's still better than Inferno Poo.
And while there may not be universal like or dislike towards a map, it can be safely removed from the map pool if it completely favors any one race over another. Unlike Proleague maps, where it's actually okay to have racial imbalance against one race (usually not two), a set map pool like IEM's should never have that kind of map in there.
It seems they were just sticking with ladder maps probably due to some BS agreement with Blizzard, but it's just sort of sad that a DECIDING map was played on Inferno Pools, and there were close spawns with a Zerg playing...

Why eliminate close spawns only? You realize that crosspawns is literally just as broken in zergs favor as the close spawns are in terrans. And if you take out both those spawns, you might as well just remove the map.

And if you take out both those spawns, you might as well just remove the map. I would never argue that cross spawns were that favored for Zerg. I'd even say that the cross spawns are often the most balanced ones, really. But close spawns pretty much force the Zerg to do an all-in of some sort. Which is exactly what happened, but it turned out to work infinitely better for Life than he had planned. It was actually a pretty humorous loss, and no doubt one of the shittiest deciding games for a big tournament.
And I WOULD like for the map to just be removed. I think it's awful regardless of position... Hell, Maru could have just floated his natural CC to the island and probably won the game even after taking so much damage from first lings. Why are there island bases on maps?? Ever?

Foxtrot was my favorite map from last season. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who thinks this though.

Yet strangely no other Zerg can imitate this and when I try this on ladder I just die. I dont know how he does it. No matter what game he plays or the caliber of his opponents, his lings ALWAYS get in. If this was NA ladder he'd be in the GM hacker thread in no time.
