According to Kim Ga Yeon (Jessica)'s Facebook, she and Boxer will be expecting a baby! And they even already give him a nickname, guess what that is?
"Marine"
Jessica wrote: "My husband went to the ceremony for his brand new start at the poker association. Now he is a father, he will be more responsible and work harder. I will cheer for him at home, Marine dad fighting! Sorry I can't go with you, and thank you."

Cute .

Poor kid; I bet Jessica is quite the tiger mom.

"Recreation from Chinese" - funny line in a expecting a baby article.
But cool news!

Poker federation? What's that about.
A bit late for a child, but congratulations nonetheless.

God bless you Boxer and your family. ♥

Suprised to see that considering Jessica is 42. At any rate I hope its a healthy baby.

I think that's irresponsible to become pregnant at 42.

Hardly, our lifespans are now such that I would be confident that the kid would be 40+ before she'd die. I don't see many other complications, if her body can still give her a child then her body thinks she's up for it why should some random dude on the internet question that.
Gratz to them both.

Congratz! I hope everything works out well!

It's more the phrase itself implies an expectancy that the norm in the US is thus the norm everywhere else where the 21st century is pretty much the emphasis of diverse norms and acceptances.

Its mostly about the risk for genetic abnormalities (something like 5-10x as high vs someone below 30), miscarriage (more than doubled) and such. Tbh it will probably be fine, the absolute risk is still quite low, maybe 2-3% for chromosone problems in the baby. I'm sure they will take every precaution to make sure Jessica and the baby is healthy.

rate of down syndrome rises to 1/32 over 40 and that is only one risk

While there are more risks of having a babby after the age of 40 (miscarriages and such) , it's not so bad that I'd call it "irresponsible".

"Irresponsible" is too harsh. Of course physiologically the prime years to get pregnant are age 20-30, and after 35 some pregnancy risks (mainly regarding the health of the child) start to increase. But if the mother is being taken good care of (as I would expect in most modern countries) it's not a big issue.

Exactly, rich and famous people don't have to live by the same rules as the rest of us.
In the US advanced maternal age is 35 btw. So this isn't normal in the US either, but it's not unheard of.
Also, in parts of Asia, advanced maternal age is 30(!).

It is also irresponsible to get pregnant when you are young, don't have steady job for both parents, poor, uninformed, uneducated, living in a country which doesn't have the best health care available and to get pregnant at all.
It's probably also irresponsible to get kids if you are so miserable that your respons to happy news is "That sucks, you should feel really guilty about this".

It's not about the dying; it's about the fact that genetic defects and complications with pregnancy are more likely to occur after age 35.
Regardless, that's great news for Boxer and Jessica! Congratulations to them and little Marine!

About half of women who are having children have them before 25... I don't know what "past" you're talking about, but two generations of having kids when you're around 22 (which is after a full four-year college, if you even choose to go that route) gets you to around age 44. While being a grandparent in your 40s isn't as common as it was a generation ago, it's still not uncommon.
In fact, nearly all of these countries' average women's age for first child is between 20-25 (some earlier, some later): https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2256.html Your country of Sweden happens to have one of the highest average ages in the world (28), so that's probably why it seems so weird to you.
Around 50 years old seems to be the most common age to become a grandparent, worldwide, as of just a few years ago. Maybe it's up to around 52 or so now? It seems to be a bit higher in wealthier countries, when couples tend to put more education and establishing careers first.

hopefully blizzard will continue with starcraft in 12+ years, we'll be looking forward to the real hire to boxer's throne.

Looking at that data, it seems that at least in the western world the average age seems to be closer to 30 than to 25 (Austraila, Germany, UK, Canada, France, etc.), so I'd say that as far as people playing Starcraft 2 are concerned, the average age to become a grandparent would indeed be closer to 60. Which is just about what I would expect, too.

It's not about the dying; it's about the fact that genetic defects and complications with pregnancy are more likely to occur after age 35. Regardless, that's great news for Boxer and Jessica! Congratulations to them and little Marine!
More likely as in, 1% instead of 0.1%*.
In the US, unless there's some family history pregnant women between 35 - 40 generally just have a few more tests and health screens.
* I believe Down's Syndrome is the most likely issue from advanced maternal age and even the elevated risk of that is overblown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Down_risk_by_maternal_age.png

Congrats to Boxer and Jessica! Hope boxer is doing well in his new career

Grats to them! Big change coming into their lives. I had a chuckle at the kid's name though lol.

Gratz! Hope Marine will be born in good health
I don't understand how some people cant just be happy for them. It's their choice, they probably knew the risks and will be careful during pregnancy.

All the best and good health to the couple and the child! Is the SC:BW account already registered!?

Boxer being a father is heartwarming to see, congrats to him

what if Marine chooses Zerg as race?
imagine the ramifications. internal family drama. prodigal son. proxy spawn pooling yellow's future son 3x in a final

Grats to them but I picture their son as... a sort of Gohan. His mother will be a tiger mom that will sign him up for all after-school classes, make sure he studies etc. while his father will be a free spirit who likes to have fun all the time

42?? I mean do they even get older over there, she looks like a teeny to me, omg..
|
Damn. Boxer truly won't be coming back will he? Oh well, here's hoping he can pass his genius down to his child!
Also as someone whose mother was 40 when she had me, while I will say that I imagine it's much different an experience than when your mother is 30, hearing someone having a baby at 42 doesn't seem a big deal to me.

Congrats.
Great news for boxer and jessica.

then YellOw's baby would be zergling

Congrats to the couple. BabyBoxer is gonna own up LotV.

And they even already give him a nickname, guess what that is? "Marine" Jessica wrote: "My husband went to the ceremony for his brand new start at the poker association. Now he is a father, he will be more responsible and work harder. I will cheer for him at home, Marine dad fighting! Sorry I can't go with you, and thank you." "New start at the poker association" and "more responsible" are kind of contradictory statements.

I certitude their third's name is bunker
|
Well the user that claimed irresponsible because after 40, birth at that age tend to have greater chance of down syndrome and other disorders or diseases. Of course this is a widely believed statistic among the community but as long as the mother is healthy and family has no genetic disorders, it is a normal age range for the families nowadays due to modern standards of society.

Maybe Boxer's child will join the ROKMC when his conscription comes? :D

Congrats Boxer, and look forward to hopefully seeing you at the WSOP this year. I'll help teach you to crush poker if you help me learn to play Terran lol

Everything past 35 is a high risk pregnancy.
http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/pregnancy-week-by-week/in-depth/high-risk-pregnancy/art-20047012
..Advanced maternal age. Pregnancy risks are higher for mothers age 35 and older. Lifestyle choices. Smoking cigarettes, drinking al....
But how is jessica 42. DAFUQ. I dont understand asian ageing i guess.
Edit: Humans are designed to live for about 30-40 years in total. (the moment your hair turns grey basicly nature wanted you to die soon, thanks to good living standards, you dont.) Pregnancy should be best age 16-25 i guess, at least biologically.
In Society 30 is the new 15 and no one ever thinks of old age or death..well another matter.

Asian aging is easy man. There's a classic comic about it and everything.
+ Show Spoiler +

This kid will be born with a Kespa License btw

Little Emperor coming soon. Grats!

Mods please... Can we not allow all this age stuff in this thread. Every 2nd comment is reaching 4chan levels here.
Good to hear for Boxer, I'm glad his life is being going him happiness (well hopefully). Quite happy to see a few of the old schooler like Boxer and Yellow being quite successful, especially in avenues outside esports.

Do Korean celebrities make up weird baby names? I mean, I can't tell which names are the equivalents of Macho, Kaydnz and Satchel.

That is false.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy#Life_expectancy_variation_over_time Having survived until the age of 21, a male member of the English aristocracy in this period could expect to live: 1200–1300: to age 64
Mean age 64 with all the insanitary crap and medical bogus of the middle ages.
Just because a cat has a litter of 5, of which 2-3 die in childhood, doesn't mean the cat was designed to live up to the point it gets grayer – which incidentally is about the mean life span when not correcting for childhood deaths (7-9 years old). The point I'm trying to make is that the median life expectancy at birth is not a good indicator of genetic decay/actual age-related death.

Congrats to them!

Grats to the both of them!

Let's see how good boxer's micro TRULY is..
|
I hope the lil one becomes Terran, just like his dad.

Pretty sure if Boxer's son plays LotV, he's going to pick protoss as his race.
I'm confident with this answer

Congrats on the baby!
The debate about the ideal age for children is ridiculous. Live and let live.

I wish them all the best for the future.
We may see if there genetics builds another great player/genius.

Anyone wanna have a bet about which race this kid will play? I will bet a 30 day ban on Terran. I think he'll follow in his father's footsteps. Hopefully someone will remember this bet many years later.
