Scarlett and Jim! Only one bo5 away from moving the the main event. It's been so long since I've seen a foreigner playing on a Korean tournament. This is gonna be good.

Korea is just "Korea." For SC2 purposes, "Asia" is everywhere in Asia except Korea.
Not sure I understand why there's no Europe seed. Because of "schedule"? What does that mean? Also if there's no 4th seed, how will the final spot in the Ro32 be filled.

There's gonna be an extra player from the qualifiers, for a total of 29.

That doesn't seem weird at all. They want to bring the best foreigners in, and the best foreigners can beat Jim.

That's true. I mean, he IS 10x the player Jaedong is.
Rofl, I guess we'll see next year with Jaedong back in Korea.
I mean life is already in half of the Korean leagues, I'd say he's doing better than JD
Pfff kid wasn't even in Code S last season kekeke.
I can't hear you over the Blizzcon title
Yeah but that tournament was actually really bad. Blizzcons always are... Not to discredit Life from beating Zest, San, Taeja, and MMA. It was impressive, but it's hard to take that tournament seriously, even with the $250k prize pool ($100k first place)...

Why is it difficult to take seriously? Pretty much everyone in that tournament prepared extensively for it and did their best.

Weekend tournaments are some times less quality than months long tournaments. Can't really argue against that, if a player can show great games with a month preparing for 5 different matches against a variety of potential opponents, then that player can probably show even more amazing games with a month preparing for just a single match against one opponent.
I presume that the EU seed was gonna go to either Vortix or one of the Liquid duo, but they couldn't get to Korea in time. Anyway, congrats to the best player in NA and the best player in non-Korean Asia (MAYBE 2nd-best, certainly most consistent) for their seeds! Make the world proud.

No offense to him, but I'm just glad it's not Snute. He seems like a very nice guy but mass swarmhosts are the bane of entertainment and anything that keeps mass swarm host players out of tournaments is always optimal.
How the seeds were decided? Some rating? Or just CEO of starleague said we gonna take scarlet, life and jim. And btw isnt then 1spot left because no europe seed?

I imagine they picked what they thought were the most dominant from each region. I'd say they picked Asia correctly, America correctly, and judging by the most recent results, Global correctly enough (you could argue a lot of people for best in world, but Life did just win the biggest tournament, so sort of makes sense I guess...)
Also, I do believe there will be 29 from qualifiers instead of 28 since the EU seed could not be filled.

Maybe they could not give a seed to EU because they could not decide who is the best in EU. XD

From the way it sounds, they had a EU seed picked, and everything was planned, but due to some conflicting scheduling issues, the player could not attend, and since it's a pretty big commitment to stay in Korea for the tournament, they could not get another EU seed.

I long for the day the Vortix doesn't have school and goes to Korea for training. It will be so glorious

even in SC2 Asia does not necessarily exclude Korea, many qualifier stages for tournaments have Asia as a qualifier made for top players of several asian countries, korea included.

I think, this is most likely means that the player they wanted to invite from Europe is lazy ass and dont want to go somewhere because of New Year holidays.
Great, it brings back memory of the good old times where a handful of foreigners could try it out in Korea's most prestigious tournament, with the opportunity to start really great storylines (Huk, Jinro, IdrA, Naniwa in mind).

Scheduling issues presented the invited European player from participating, this leaving the spot open for an additional Korean player

I hope Scarlett does well. Although I dont get the 2 SC2 leagues (afaik SSL and GOM, right?) and why they arent 1. Scheduling must be a bitch for korean SC2 players (IF they are alowed to play in both leagues).

The tournaments run over a long period of time on different days, it seems like it would actually be fairly convenient to play in both at the same time.
gonna be the negativenancy who says that two people without any tournamentwins the last 2-3 years prolly shouldn't be invited over people like zest, innovation or soo (and yea soo doesn't have tournamentwins either, but he came close 4 times in a row in gsl as opposed to coming second in 1-2 foreign tournaments with low korean presence).

I sort of agree, but those players will most likely qualify anyway. Jim and Scarlett will most likely be out first round unless they get some good bracket luck, so it does seem like a tiny bit of a waste.
We all remember how well foreigners did before when they were seeded into GSL (okay Naniwa is the exception to that rule he had one insanely good season)
Good to see some non-Korean representation in a Korean league again, especially players like Scarlett and Jim who have big followings in the foreign scene and China. While I doubt they will be too successful it is a step in the right direction to bring more interest.

Would that be the season where he made Top 8, or the season where he made Top 8 again? Might you be mistakenly thinking of the time Idra made Top 8? Or maybe you're thinking of the season Jinro made Top 4? Or the other season Jinro made Top 4? You might just be thinking of the time Huk was Top 8. Or one of the 2 other times he was Top 16.

I miss Jinro so much ;_;
Cheering for him was some of the most fun I ever had in Sc2

I love this post so much. I think sometimes we forget the dedication and skill of the few foreigners who went to Korea and tried their hardest in the early days of SC2.
These guys should be remembered with awe and reverence, the way we look back today on Grrrrr and Elky and Legionnaire when they did similarly awesome things in Brood War.
Also, mad respect to Huk for still battling it out and trying his hardest when everyone else in that list has retired.

Jinro, Idra and HuK were not seeded. They qualified through their own merits.
That being said, I don't think any foreigner will be able to do what Jinro has done. He is truly the best foreigner to live. It's a shame he retired because he could achieve way more than Stephano, Snute, Scarlett or whatever other foreigner that people over hype and over rate.

The skill gap between foreigners and koreans is much wider now than what it was 2-3 years ago. I don't think that right now any foreigner has the skill of an average code S ro32 player. Obviously they could still make it far if they are lucky/play better than usual.

After the 3 Open Seasons no foreigner has made it through the qualifiers. Every foreign player has either been seeded into Code A or Code S.

While that's true Naniwa did get a ro8 qualifying him for the next GSL. Obviously not the same as qualifying from the start but he also earned his place
EDIT: Also for those curious Jinro TLO DeathAngel Macsed and a few other guys I can't remember off the top of my head were 1 match (all 4 of them 1 game IIRC) away from qualifying in various seasons

No clue. She's pretty popular internationally though.
Ofc I have my favorites to win the tournament (herO, Bbyong, and anyone else from CJ along with FlaSH), but I'm really hoping to see Jim and Scarlett go the distance here and take at least a few wins. I hope they take this opportunity super seriously and practice/train their hearts out and really give us a nice showing!
Also, out of all of the Europeans in Europe, they couldn't find a single one that didn't have a scheduling conflict? I can understand that they would only want to invite one of the very best Europeans, but it's pretty hard to believe... They probably only spent a couple weeks trying to contact people and telling them that they had only a few days to decide. That's all I could think of.
