About the rule on hiring mercenaries. I read a number of things earlier in the thread, with mostly negatives, and then Wax and a few others in defence of it. I am conflicted on that one myself.

How about tightening the merc rules without eliminating it?

-only one merc per team for the duration of the whole tournament and designated as such.
-the merc could not be an all-killer. if a merc wins against a regular opponent, he has to step out after his only win. If he wins against another merc, then he can do only one more game.

Would that remove too much of the interest in hiring mercenaries? Possibly, but I think some teams would still find it interesting, and maybe in some cases it would bring a strategy element on when to bring the merc in.

How about a merc has to be teamless? Then "mercenary" actually makes sense. You could pick someone like TargA, but not allkill material like naniwa or hyun.

Huh? What are you on about?

Ok so here's how much it cost us for ATC Season 2. About $7000 to fly 5 players to Krefield and back, plus food money plus one extra hotel room. ATC generously compensated $3500 for travel costs, leaving us with a $3500 expense. Since we don't take players prizemoney, at that point it becomes a case of trying to give our players opportunities and our sponsors the necessary exposure. The ATC Season 2 finals didn't get particularly high viewers, but our players won a good amount of money from it and played well, so I was happy with the result.

For ATC 3 we're gonna have to look at our travel budget. Flight costs can vary wildly and it's hard to book well in advance unless we stomp the early stages of the league so hard that we can't be dislodged from a play-off spot. There's a reason why there aren't many international teamleagues with live finals, it costs far too much to fly a team across the planet. That's why the loss of GSTL is such a huge blow.

Glad that you are considering.

Indeed! I really hope that all the larger (stronger) teams are all able to participate.

I understand teams not taking player prize money. However, I wonder why teams don't negotiate with players so that if a player (or team) wins an event they would pay back at least some of the travel expenses (win-win no?) I suppose a lot would have to do with how the player salary structure is set up... Normally I'd say it's not something the fans should really concern themselves with, however it is troubling if teams (or players) aren't financially able to attend events.

edit: by no means am I questioning how any teams function (since I honestly know nothing that goes on behind the scenes).

I love Take and the stuff he is doing for the scene. If only he could do it a little more professional :/
Just ahead of time, know your addiction's not a crime. It's just a smaller part of who you want to become in the end.

To me a mercenary is someone who fills up a smaller team so that they can participate. A one map restriction would not be of much help. Maybe have him as the last playable guy, after all regulars have fallen? And I'm feeling the teamless only.

Oh god please no. more professional = less entertaining. Known for decades and not only in esports.

Not in terms of events and stuff, more about his announcements.

This announcement reads like google translate in some parts tbh. And he hasnt asked for confirmation from teams etc.

I think I'd rather just not see a smaller team participate. I'm okay with smaller teams joining forces (but they should have a singular name for competing). I get the idea of a merc being allowed on a smaller team, but that isn't really fair to other teams.

If the 'pre-existing team' structure is not used then what's to stop 5 top players on otherwise weaker teams (personal sponsorship) from just creating their own all-star sniper team? (Polt, Bomber, Revival, Elfi, Patience etc - maybe not the best example.) Now, I'd love to watch that "team" compete, but it kills the idea of it actually being a competition for teams.

According to readmore there is neither a merc rule nor an ace rule. Not sure if it is correct, though. It just cites the official announcement and the TL thread as sources (/links).

There are a lot of really strong teamless guys out there, MC, KangHo, SuNo, Symbol, Oz, aLive are just a few examples. I doubt, that that would change to much in terms of possible mercanary quality.

Any, the announcement itself is awesome and I hope this time mouz does´nt get eliminated for having higher win percentadge than Liquid and a H2H win over them.

Well two major problems hit the long season 1 : the disband of K3 and the Axiom's schedule issue. The longer the season is, the higher the risk of problems is there.

I just noticed that without the mercanry rule Complexity is really unimpressive. STC gone, viPro gone, if they now lose MajOr as their ace, they would only have QXC, Hendralisk, KoMa, Drunkenboi, DeathEnD, Midday and Moosegrills left. No offense to those guys, but every other team in the league has at least 3 players, who would be favored to all-kill this lineup (except Empire, they only have 2).

Taking money away from players if they win risks them putting in less effort.

They always fell 1 map short or something, I'm sure this time Dear will close it out and they'll do it!
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.
