Does anyone remember even as far back as the beta when people would make third person and top-down arena shooters? When some guy/team more or less recreated Metal Slug in the SC2 engine? What about that first-person shooter that Husky showcased on his channel? Isn't it fucking sad that those fun things were swept away in favor of more DotA-clones and TDs that bring nothing new to the table? This seems like a step in the right direction, certainly, but we'll have to wait and see if it motivates people to work on such ambitious projects again, and more to the point if Blizzard can give them enough exposure to have people actually *play* those arcade games. Yeah that's a good point. Those were cool because they showcased the actual power of the tools at the modder's exposure. It's essentially mobile/tablet gaming in a nutshell. Derivative game after derivative game that people go nuts over, but will call me a nerd for liking Starcraft, a game of real depth. Go figure :p

And it's such a powerful tool too... I used to follow SC2Mapster for a while, and people were coming up with all kinds of crazy shit. There was even a contest to see who could make the coolest hero skill/ability, and it's insane what people were coming up with, it actually looked and felt fucking amazing. What became of that? Who knows because nobody plays that kind of games on arcade. On February 04 2014 23:20 Wombat_NI wrote: It's essentially mobile/tablet gaming in a nutshell. It doesn't even have to be what I mentioned, like I remember playing various kinds of horde mode co-op survival games, some with different playable classes, some with powerups, some with other cool mechanics vis-a-vis repairable barricades and having to use torches/glowsticks to be able to see in the dark. Co-op horde mode games are still all the rage, so why did those never get popular? I don't know man, it just feels like such a massive waste, that there should be this powerful and relatively simple engine that comes with so many premade assets, that there should be skilled people in the community who can make use of that, but that nobody should care of anything but the simplest and most dumbed down of "games".

People have done it in less time during the beta, and for no pay. Just saying. ;p I'd say this isn't for the people who have no idea how to make a mod/game, but rather the mappers who have the skill and the expertise but aren't motivated to put in the effort because nobody gives a shit about their maps. :/

"KING OF THE ARCADE" tournament with that 15000$ I mean the amazing games are already there, they just need to be played. So instead of incentivizing developers to make even more, it should incentivize the players to play them.

If players only turn up because there is money involved, they will leave after the tournament is done. If developers create a good map or mode, players will stick around to play said map or mode.

The game should support at least one, but no more than six players. You can make a single player RPG or a battle-arena game, but we don’t want the lobby size to be too big. Six is a good maximum for us. Seems a bit restrictive. So much for Kobold Tribes, Strikers or Chu Chu Train sized games.

Tons of good maps have been created, most of them died out, if they even had the fortune to be played by more than a dozen people to begin with. Again, it's a good idea for Blizzard to do this, but at the same time the biggest problem is that people tend to only play the simplest and most accessible games around. And this also raises the issue, how exactly will Blizzard choose a winner for this contest? Is it popularity? Because then they'd only breed the same parasitic trend that plagues flash games and mobile games as of late...

I think this is a fantastic idea and hope we'll get some cool new mods out of this. + Show Spoiler + if they do this type of thing again, maybe Blizzard could offer an internship type of thing to the winner, i think that'd be a cool idea

Inability to name your own custom lobbies, or having a list of lobbies to join. Imagine, you go Starbow, instead of being auto-matched with somebody, you pick from a list of titles like 'Ex B-Minus BW Player 1v1' or 'Complete Noob 1v1!' and it really makes it easier to find people of equivalent familiarity with the game than you. It's not foolproof by any means, but I hate the removal of that kind of functionality and automating all this kind of thing, unless you find people in a channel and organise on that behalf. It was the same when you grow tired of ladder and want to practice 1v1. You have to go around channels whoring for games, in the old Bnet you could make 'Diamond P wants 1v1 vT' and get people joining you for that.

On topic, this is wicked cool, especially with the new tools they've released. The SC2 map engine is sick powerful and has tons of potential, hoping to see some great stuff out there
