Keep in mind that by the time two players make it to the finals (think players like Soulkey, Rain, Innovation), they are going to believe they are #1. Splitting the pot when you truly believe you will win and take the $100k is just making a donation to the other player. Second, it's not like korean teams don't share the winnings of their players anyway. It's still helping numerous people in the scene, just not those who (had their travel expenses covered) and fell short.

So the choice is between a) potentially a bit of PR damage if it were to be found out, or b) giving up a guaranteed 50k. Well, I'll take the money and risk a).

Who knows the kind of deals that take place behind closed doors anyways? That stuff surely doesn't leak onto TL or Reddit. Look at how little people know about player's salaries. It wouldn't be too hard to keep it hidden.

Bottom line is: ESL have made the prize structure so top-heavy that NOT rigging the game is just simply STUPID.

What stops the winner from making this deal beforehand and then going back on it after they win? It's not like the loser could come forward with that, collusion is taken extremely seriously in this scene. It would be a lot worse than "some PR damage". Also, the loser wouldn't have any real legal right to that money so really in a deal like that the loser is simply at the mercy of the winner to play nice. Is that worth it?

There is nothing stopping the winner from doing that, except that is a total ass hole move.

And those who pot split do not talk about splitting the pot. Didn't you all see fight club? You don't talk about fight club.

Splitting the winnings is the rational thing to do. The top two should agree to split it 70/30 or 60/40.

Yes, if the split was 50-50, then it is more collusion. If it is something like 70/30 like in all other tournaments, then I think it is different, both players would still try their best to win. Lol , top 16 last year got $1500 and Yoda got $30,000. Do you think any of the players went to IEM thinking it would be great to just get the $1500?

This might be true for high salaries pro sports where the average players are making millions a year. But for SC2, the number 50 earner is Sniper who has earned $55K is like 3 years, that is less than 2K per month...

Even if the split was 50/50 and they both tried their hardest to win, for solely the prestige of winning it wouldn't be collusion and even if they gave up SHIT games each one of them joked around it would not be collusion. There is no unfair advantage to other players they both agreed to the deal. Collusion would be throwing a series in a group stage to give a partner an advantage in the group. Collusion would be throwing a game for payment.

Edit: Also I don't know if Koreans think exactly like us foreigners. They might keep it WTA style, but even if they didn't I doubt anyone gets it down to even 60/40 and even if they did an extra 20,000 is worth playing for. I don't see what everyone is fussing about this. It isn't even a piss poor strategy unless you know you have your opponent dominated.

split is the best, if you still want "top heavy" then something like:
1st 80k, 2nd 15k, 3rd/4th 2,5k.
