It's definitely too early to conclude that WTA is bad, since this is the first time a premier tournament did it. Beside, it's not like every Premier tournament is doing this, IEM is the only one toying with this. yes i would. this only really makes it worth it for the one person who wins. it's not worth the effort and cost for everyone else, so you'll have a lot of other players decide to not even compete in this tournament if they don't think they have a high chance of taking 1st.

Cost wise the players got free hotel and flight over to the tournament. So the only thing the players may have to pay for are food (which isn't very expensive unless the player chooses to).

On the other hand, prize money for 2nd-8th place, or 2nd-16th place, is still a nice boon for players that showed up and entertained. And even in SC2, winning a tournament is remembered by at least some of the audience. People remember Leenock vs Jjakji, or Fruitdealer's victory, and so on, so a very top-heavy award for first place is also arguably over the top. I don't mind GSL's format this year, but IEM's is not something I want to see any more often. Maybe if IEM's next WC is the same, that's enough for me.
