That won't change anything like I said before. It will be the same audience.

Perhaps for the venue, but not for the streams.

what? the stream numbers are what is consistent.

KeSPA is doing a great job. Only thing wrong is that the game can't sustain itself in Korea at the moment. I noticed that there were drinks and pizza there tonight. Sad to see that SC2 needs these "incentives" for people to go watch.

I'm pretty sure the free stuff isn't limited to SC2 in Korea

the quality for foreigns is just so much lower then gstl ... not even seeing the casters, the ingame sound way higher then the caster voices ... its just like a "light" gstl with better teams also the missing of startale etc doesnt help it much ...

and then the fact that the most people not like kespa ^^

Aside from the sound I was actually very pleasantly surprised by the production quality. I don't even think GSTL's production was that great, but that might just be taste.

That's selling Proleague incredibly short. It's a new venue with new casters and (presumably, given that PL is now run by Spotv Games or whatever) new people. The game sounds were too loud for a game or two, but besides that the production was, in my opinion (and I seem to recall most posters agreeing in LR) top-notch.

Growth has to happen somehow. Accommodating the viewers is better than not doing so, wouldn't you agree?

Btw, I really don't like this idea that growing ProLeague has to mean growing SC2 and that vice versa the state of ProLeague speaks for the whole state of SC2.

There's still plenty of room for PL to grow within the existing SC2 community, even without getting a single new person into watching SC2. ProLeague can at least rise to the popularity/hype level of GSL/WCS or something, which I'm sure would help them out quite a bit, and it doesn't seem impossible for them to do this.

Just saying that viewers need incentive to watch SC2. Sure, LoL has free stuff of its own, but does it need them for viewers? Nope.

I think for Korea in particular, Proleague's success is (everything is relative) closely tied to the success of Starcraft II. It's not the only factor at all, but it's a lot more important than Iron Squid for example was to the foreign community, given its history and prestige and the sponsor exposure for the teams involved that are pumping money into the scene. On the whole, it works differently from the foreign scene.

I don't even think he was hinting at LoL at all, but rather publishers like Nexon and others like to give out a lot of free stuff to draw in the crowd. When the GOM studio was packed with WoT or dota people, they gave out lots of free stuff at the same time. It's nothing unusual or something to be worried about.

It's the combined package. Some viewers will definitely go watch SC2 purely for SC2. Others need more incentive to go outside of just watching the games.

Having said that, I'm glad that KeSPA/sponsors do all of this. I just want SC2 to sustain itself. KeSPA is investing and hoping in that sort of future.

I'm not saying I'm necessarily expecting any at all, but I'm certainly wondering whether you think accommodating the viewers unnecessary since that's what I get from your posts here. If growth were to happen, note the if, it's a lot more likely that it happens if the viewers feel that they're getting the best and the most entertaining rather than when they feel like they don't.

And do you think this is limited to Starcraft? From what I saw today (especially when Kal played and won), the audience was super hyped. I don't think they were faking that, which leads me to believe that the majority of the audience cared about the games.

Honestly guys, comparing SC2 to LoL is just plain stupid at this point. Why would you compare SC2, which we know is struggling, to the mindboggingly dominating favourite game of the Koreans these days? It almost feels like self loathing SC2 bashing for the sake of being negative.

Please can we just look at SC2 on its own and not compare it to another game just because there was a rivarly between these 2 years ago? I'm so tired of that.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with that, but it feels like fucking Dave Mustaine always chasing Metallica's popularity for the sake of an old rivalry, and consequently never being satisfied with his own success, which was still amazing if you just look at it by itself. That's what this reminds me of.

I'm not doubting that authenticity. All I am saying is that KeSPA is investing in SC2 before/now, so they (eventually) do not have to continuously dump money into it just to keep it at a remotely acceptable level. I hope that comes sooner rather than later that SC2 is worth it for them. Self-sustaining and hopefully self-growing.

So, you're talking about accommodating those who are already invested in the game. I hope they aren't as dependent on new growth as they make it sound. Will people check out the Nexon facilities? Surely, but if there is one thing that is consistent about our audience it's those stream numbers. That's what you have to work with and I have a very hard time believing those numbers will go over the top anytime soon. It's been the status quo for a while, event to event based off the different variables.

How are HD passes for this season working? I couldn't find any info on it from the other TL threads. I bought the $5 HD pass last year without much of a thought, if it's a similar price I'd definitely buy.

EDIT: Sorry to drag this off-topic, I meant this to be about supporting PL. The twitch channel says I'm still subscribed but iirc last year was a one time payment and I haven't been charged again?
