Looking good so far. The production quality was top notch, the stream quality was great (was only watching youtube), wolf and new guy did a very good job aswell. It shows that they are making a real effort to make proleague more attractive and so far it is.

I personally feel that watching the channel itself is already supporting the proleague. I think the view plays a major role in getting sponsorships and ads.
But of course we would want to pay extra to support the proleague. Maybe they should accept donations or sell merchandises? I'm very sure selling team jackets can earn lots of money, especially if they manage to handle overseas transaction and ship them overseas.

Also, I feel that proleague is basically the last life line for Korea SCII scene now. GSL itself isn't really going to cut it. Even better if SpoTV makes their own individual league, which will help korean scene further.
Also to mention that SpoTV also has its own TV station unlike GomTV, and that itself might help a lot in drawing in old and new fans in alike.

Business-wise, SpoTV and GOM needs to partner up to broadcast GSL on SpoTV in order to reach a larger audience.

Best would be eSF and KeSPA joining forces.

Startale and the rest of eSF teams join Proleague. Proleague is run by SpoTV, broadcasted by SpoTV, casted by casters from GomTV for both English and Korean (I watched the Korean stream and seems like they don't like the new korean casters due to inexperience). GomTV runs GSL, SpoTV helps broadcast it within Korea, through both youtube, Korean websites and streaming sites like afreeca and naver, and also through TV.
Also, SpoTV running their own individual league once in a while will also help korean scene a lot more.

The only problem is I see very small chance of this happening.

They are former MBC guys + Canata. And they already did last year of SC2 Proleague. Lack of experience is the last thing you can say abou them.

Idk there were plenty of complaints on the korean stream that the commentary sucked though.

If the Korean fans are anything like the foreign fans when it comes to appreciation of casting, I don't think it matters who's casting because some people will hate it anyway

Well, netizens can be even worse (like, really bad) unless you're someone like Boxer/Flash/Faker/Madlife

They're trying to keep a league alive for a game that has a <1% marketshare (with no signs of it growing in popularity) and you think 'corruption' is the problem? Sure.

I like how you make stuff up to strengthen your "point".

No idea how he came up with that number, but it can't be very far off, since if you look at the top 10 pc bang games, the 10th placed game has 1,7% share. So, Starcraft2 has to be somewhere below that, at least at pc bangs, which of course isn't everything. No idea about the actualy number, though.

I know, its clear that SC2 makes up 31.8576% of the market share of Esports in total. I don't know where he is getting such a low number.

I'm not sure but I think he means in Korea overall (ie how many people play it), not just in esports and certainly not internationally. Even so, <1% sounds unlikely when there are supposed to be some 50,000 accounts on KR ladder altogether

Most popular pc bang list every month. SC2 is less than 1%. Esports in korea is very advanced, they have all the polling ratings like we do for television. Lots of data available for sponsors. Surprisingly wc3 (prolly dota) and BW is still respectable 3%+ each. The big winner is ofc lol with around 35%.

Kespa is just hanging on to proleague for nostalgia sake. It is afterall the grandfather of esports. Sadly its time really seems to be fading replaced by ughhh lol leagues. These days they jokingly call ogn lolgamenet.

I'm no expert on PC Bang culture so please educate me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the games that are free to play be much more popular because you don't need to pay for an account? With SC2, you've got to buy the game (with the spawning feature I guess only one of your friends do) and it's not too far-fetched to think that more people play SC2 from home compared to the people playing WC3 or BW because they can just go to a PC Bang and play, without paying for anything else. Or am I wrong?

All I got from the letter is that KESPA invested a lot into Proleague and SC2 is dying.

Also isn't Korea looking to ban professional gaming? I swear I read that somewhere..

Thanks for this. I'll make sure to log in to Proleague a lot more this season.

GL to all the teams and players.

Edit/ I'd also be more than willing to pay a small subscription (say for VODs etc).

I think I heard that you can play for free with a Korean ID, can't vouche for it though.

I feel like I should make a thread of Xiphos's lazy, passive aggressive shots at SC2. He has so many at this point, its almost comical.

Those single 2 matches were better than the whole last year of PL production wise.
So i'd say those were good investments

Is this another one of your passive aggressive shots at SC2? Most businesses don't make decisions based off of faith and putting out a press release explaining the delay of proleague isn't a bad thing. Thanks to this letter, I caught a couple games this morning while cleaning up the house.

Incorrect, you should learn to stop posting irrelevant message to the content you are responding because "putting out a press release explaining the delay of proleague isn't a bad thing" is an attempt to demonstrate that I'm vilifying Kespa for making such release which it utterly not the case. Please refrain from doing that. And once again you shouldn't worry about the state of any business venture as long as the merchandise have inherent sustainability potential w/ the appropriate copyright protection and exposure. So quit being a little insecure Plansix because you are making it seem that fans will stay loyal to a bad product or something which is absolutely not true. Its a free market.
