Oh well, let's stop caring about OGN. They were nice to us when SCBW was big in Korea. But they never cared like too much about SC2 and now they just abandon it. It's okay. Nice to see, PL is still continuing.
But this bo5 mess really needs to be fixed. Winning 3 games is just not enough for a team war. And if the lack of (good) players in Prime is the problem, just make a rule that one person can play twice... this won't help the rookies in the big teams, but at least will make the matches feel like a real thing.

One person can play twice - in the ace match. Allowing a team's ace to play three times in one match, though? No thanks, it's weird enough in ATC which is an online team league with much lower stakes. It'd be really weird in Proleague.
The matches will be at the " Nexon Gangnam studio ", so it won't be that little box that the SPOTV matches were in last season.
Also:
12:05 - Broadcasters: SPOTV Games, SPOTV2 will broadcast at the same time. Available in 8.5 million households with IPTV. SK B TV, LG U+, and OllehTV will broadcast (each telecom company's mobile channel). Also on NAver sports, Youtube, and TwitchTV.
Wow so it is on TV and will reach 8.5 million households.
Wow so it has the biggest prize pool in Proleague history.
Wow so it is being played in an E-sports Stadium and not a tiny box.
Wow 95% of this thread is still bitching and moaning about this reveal.
I'm not a huge fan of Proleague or broodwar of the past, so perhaps that's allowing me to look at this data and information and come to rational conclusions here. This should be good news to be most people, yet it seems like the majority of posters here are on the verge of slitting their wrists over this. No idea what's happening. Friday the 13th?
you probably watch Fairy ads in awe. Wow i can wash my house in 2 minutes. Come again when 8.5 millions turn out to be 8k~ish of twitch online and the esport stadium is yet another 20 seats place.
People who want to rage will rage. I just read the information (also known as facts) and repeated it. Information, not conjecture. Excuse me if by stating facts I may have accidentally deflated your rage-boner.
your "facts" are: the name of the place contains Stadium - time to cheer in joy. Basically you've come to say "you are all so negative i'm way cooler than you". I doubt you even know what proleague used to be 3-5 years ago.
Please stop with the "DAE Brood War nostalgia?!?!?!?".
Really glad that Proleague was announced, psyched to watch it and for fantasy Proleague.
Good point. Accept that sc2 was never, is not and will never be a true esport like SC:BW was and will never be again. The true successor to BW is now lol and maybe dota. Sc2 is jes a small niche games market comparable to western viewerships. Small shady event organisers posing as esports squeezing no-return money from players and sponsors alike.
Gone are the days of competing against tennis etc. Now sc2 competition is counterstrike and tonnes of other new games that pop up every month. Expectations of sc2 were way too inflated. On hindsight, it was obvious sc2 was jes a game like any other and no way it could ever succeed BW as the esports.
I dont know, Artosis and Tastless, otherwise known as Tastosis: The Casting Archon, always mention in their casts how big SC2 has gotten in Korea and how Korea is the Mecca of eSports. I think that those two, WHO LIVE IN KOREA, would know that Korea is embracing SC2 as the true bonjwa successor to SCBW. Moreover, they even were around when SC1 was "popular" in Korea -- so they of all people should know what it's like to see an eSports game grow into a huge success.
Don't want to be hating on SC2, I love watching the game, but have to correct you: Khaldor is also living in Korea and he has made a video explaining that SC2 is not that big in Korea and explaining the reasons behind this. Might be an interesting watch if you didn't already do so. Also, Artosis is at the moment going pro Hearthstone player, playing in tourneys, releasing vods, etc. I hope he doesn't abandon SC2 alltogether.

Oh, so they still have the ace match??? Okay, thx then, that's better than I thought.

Not even a chance. Theres not a single sc2 stream in biggest stream site: afreeca. Months ago tere was macho sc2 league in afreeca but that faded away in oblivion. Sc2 cant even make top20 in pc room. Sorry to say this but sc2 is not big. Its doing literally horrible in korea. Typical koreans dont even know who taeja is. Koreans are still very nostalgic about bw.

Yeah, it's not like they were just trying to promote the game that pays their bills or anything. I scoffed every single time I'd hear Tasteless say, "you're watching the GSL, the greatest, most prestigious e-sports tournament in history." GSL couldn't hold a candle to the OSL.
BW was basically the 2nd biggest sport in Korea behind soccer. Flash was featured in a welcoming video for the G20 Summit a handful of years ago. SC2 never caught on, anyone living in Korea could tell you that. LoL is where the fans are now, which means it's where the money is now. Therefore it's no surprise that SC2 teams are folding, OGN is dropping Proleague, and Artosis is already looking for a new line of work. It's sad, but true. The only reason I even have the slightest interest in Proleague, is because of the Brood War players/teams I used to cheer for. I'm sure a lot of people are the same way.
Does anyone know if there'll be a fantasy proleague this time? And how many days ahead will it be avaliable? Last time had such a small signup window (was GSTL, but still) so I missed it. Got slightly depressed by it as well
Bit of a shame they went for Bo5 instead of Bo7. On the other hand, though: Wolf is casting! He is a serious boss, and I hope the LoL-co-caster can learn a thing or two from him, this should be better than last year's casters for sure.
If anyone's wondering who this Brendan Valdes guy is, his tag (at least in 2012) is 'Groople.' He was a man hired by Azubu for various things, like this video here:
Outside of Prime, the rest of the teams look like they have a deeper roster of players than they had in the past. Not to mention that Bo7 allows teams to develop rookies by using 1-2 games for them in a long series. On average, SC2 games are shorter than BW ones so that shouldn't be a problem.
On December 17 2013 21:44 Khai wrote: Bo7 would've been so much better, but the teams are so much smaller now I can't say I'm too surprised.
Why? I can only find good things about Bo5:
Less fatigue for a viewer/less oversaturation with SC2 content taking into account that all WCS will start still during SPL (as said earlier in the thread, playdays 6 hours long were common thing, which is really a lot, mainly considering 3 play days every week)
Less of PvProleague, considering lineups will only be 4 people and 1 of Z, P and T needs to be present
More chance of better players to meet leading to epic games
The only wrong thing is, that there will be less opportunities for rookies, mainly on stacked teams like SKT.

I second the viewer experience thing. When i can watch 3 hours of tournament per day of work, it's easier to follow. I would constently fall behind while watching.
Do they still have the rule requiring each team to play at least one of each race in Proleague format matches? Kind of hard to see that happening with BO5. This might be the most PvProleague yet.
