I'm not an expert but I suppose that leaving SC2 and not adding Dota 2 will make MLG 'size' smaller, since (even if LoL provides lot's of followers) Halo, Fighters, CoD, etc doesn't have that many followers as SC2 in general terms.
Maybe is more about margin or something like that. You know, after all, this is Bussiness. You may be underestimating the followings of games like Halo and CoD in comparison to SC2.

Time to bring counter-strike back.

Man that sucks. I was actually planning on going to MLG Columbus, not going if there's no SC2 though. This means that I won't be able to go to any SC2 events now because no one else ever did major events in the area.

I've been saying this for years now, but there's no reason mapmakers can't make 2v2 viable. Balance would be a big issue. If you think 1v1 balance is tenuous, 2v2 is like a hundred times more complicated. the biggest problem in 2v2 right now is the map pool. no one can coherently argue balance one way or the other when the maps are on the same quality level as WoL release maps.
It has gotten better, but there are definitely still vast improvements to be made. I was kinda disappointed we didn't get more good 2v2 maps out of the TLMC#2. We had some decent ones, but very few standard, balanced, solid 2v2 maps. There also aren't many map makers who have team maps on their radar at all.

Typical Sundance and MLG leaving the door open with his qualified comment.

No surprise though really, WCS 2013 Season ends November 9 at Blizzcon.
i predicted a lower over all 2013 prize pool for SC2 would be lower than 2012. it generated lots of flames. this latest announcement makes it closer to becoming a reality.
SC2 eSports is clearly a land of diminishing returns for pro players. But, the Starcraft franchise continues to be a nice source of profit for Blizzard. So don't worry LotV won't be cancelled guys, SC ain't dyin'
well timed retirement by Stephano ... gettin' while the gettin' is good

This just exasperates an already huge problem. Korean b teamers taking all the money. Whether it's true or not, WCS NA needs to be region locked.

Why would they? hard to have something on your radar that seemingly no one cares about. There has to be a demand before they'll start supplying it.

Wow an event I can actually go to lol just my luck

So WHY invest in sc2? MLG good job, nobody can blame you guys for making a sensical decision This is kind of a shitty argument. "A single regular season NFL game gets more viewers than the WCS AM finals". That doesn't mean that its impossible to make money on SC2. yea but u can make more money on LoL. Sc2 esports is shrinking/dying whether you like it or not.

A positive thing about this is that there will not be any discussions about extended series \o/

The first MLG event I was planning to attend and there's no SC2. Sundance y u do this?
|
I'm tempted to say that I don't really like this, but on the other hand, the only events that I actively follow this year are Dreamhack and WCS (Europe and finals).
To be honest, I don't mind the fact that there are less SC2 events this year. 2011-2012 had a ton of them, but at the same time this made it practically impossible to follow who was doing what. Things like IPL and NASL were fun and all that, but quality-wise not really up to scratch compared to Dreamhack, Iron Squid and now WCS Europe. I prefer quality of quantity, and one of the perks of having less quantity is that players can prepare better and show better games.

I'm guessing other games simply get more views? that's about the only reason i can think of that all this would make sense.

So WHY invest in sc2? MLG good job, nobody can blame you guys for making a sensical decision I don't see how you would know if it's worth it or not, our viewer numbers are not terrible, sure they aren't growing but they are stable. Stagnation is regression. If others move ahead, and we don't make any progress, we will come out on the short end in the long run. Anyway, i hope mlg just experiements with things and comes to a positive result regarding StarCraft/eSport after columbus. We broke records last mlg didn't we?
I don't know Only mlg knows what's the real deal behind this tweet. Maybe to gain attation, try to put some pressure on blizzard or _simply_ business related. Who knows

Hope the reason really is Blizzcon. If they drop it completely it would hurt, but enough people saw that coming 2 years ago when MLG became a korean only tournament on NA ground.

Yaaay we're dying again!!!

So, let's see what has changed in the NA scene: IPL: Gone. MLG: Gone. NASL: Works with WCS. WCS: Koreans.
Missed something?

I'll never understand this community's fascination with death. Any discussion about SC2 always comes back to "X is killing Starcraft" or "SC2 is a dying game." Christ the BW forum is more positive than this.
