So WHY invest in sc2? MLG good job, nobody can blame you guys for making a sensical decision I don't see how you would know if it's worth it or not, our viewer numbers are not terrible, sure they aren't growing but they are stable. Stagnation is regression. If others move ahead, and we don't make any progress, we will come out on the short end in the long run. Anyway, i hope mlg just experiements with things and comes to a positive result regarding StarCraft/eSport after columbus. We broke records last mlg didn't we? Two MLGs ago. People seem to gloss over Anaheim.
Hopefully MLG isn't looking at the numbers they got for Anaheim and is judging based off of those. I hope that they find another event like Dallas earlier this year profitable, because that was full of great storylines and gameplay. I'm still holding out hope that they just haven't put it together yet, but I can't see them organizing something big like Dallas if they're not already on it.

Edit: Wasn´t it a MLG with the epic Flash vs Life finals? Yes it was. MLG Dallas 2013, right after HotS release.

Considering how much people like to moan and bitch about how terrible MLG is I would almost have expected people to be happy about this. But no, some will always complain.

Hmm, seems pretty weird to me. I'm not an expert but I suppose that leaving SC2 and not adding Dota 2 will make MLG 'size' smaller, since (even if LoL provides lot's of followers) Halo, Fighters, CoD, etc doesn't have that many followers as SC2 in general terms.
Maybe is more about margin or something like that. You know, after all, this is Bussiness.

The last MLG I went to in Dallas was riddled with technical issues that ruined the live experience. I'm ok watching Dreamhack and the various WCS events and skipping MLG. Besides, I think November is a good date for the next MLG SC2 tourney since Blizzcon will be wrapped up by then.

Spectator issues aside this is just another blow to the already struggling NA scene.
MLG's open bracket is one of the few opportunities players have in NA, it's the only major tournament that travels around so players that can't afford plane tickets across the continent can compete.
We had great storylines at Anaheim this year and being a part of the spectator crowd was awesome even if we didn't have the main stage.
I hope MLG releases their reasoning for not having Starcraft at Columbus and I hope it's just a one time thing. If I had to guess this omission has something to do with the proximity of the event to Blizzcon.

If that isn't a sign SC2 is on the decline (and has been for a while) I don't know what is. Pretty sad

It's just easier to follow teams, and you have more players to root for. Think about it- people will watch whole matches if ONE of the ten players is one of their favorites.
I've been saying this for years now, but there's no reason mapmakers can't make 2v2 viable. Balance would be a big issue. If you think 1v1 balance is tenuous, 2v2 is like a hundred times more complicated.
That's what everybody keeps saying. But the biggest balance problem in 2v2 is the maps anyway

All right folks, I figured it out:
The next MLG Championship event is being held on 22-24 November.
Blizzcon is being held Novermber 8-9, with the championship that weekend. Why hold a SC2 event after the world championship? It seems a little redundant.

My guess is that since WCS MLG and blizzards relationship got fucked. So blizzard probably pulled any support it had previously been giving MLG (outside of wcs), so now without that backing MLG doesn't think they can put on a quality show that makes money for SC.
Really I'm just trying to find a way to circlejerk how bad WCS is for the scene!

Last MLG was the best in a long long time, sad to see this now. Hope they stick around

Why are people still comparing a 1v1 game to a 5v5 game? It doesn't make sense. You're cheering for 1 player vs 5 players/team. There's clearly going to be more viewers for 10 players in a single game opposed to 2 in SC. No game has more daily/weekly tournaments that range from 30-50k viewers at a time than SC2. LoL comes on once in a while with 100-150k. Not sure how people think that matters.

I think MLG will try a stint with Infinite Crisis.

Plansix, you always come into these threads with your logic and reason, when people just want to get angry at a major company who does things for the scene. I don't think you belong in here.

yes, when the company that has never been profitable it any year of its existence with any game they have ever run drops a game, it must be the games fault.

blizz cup seems redundant with WCS Global finals essentially taking its place.
