No, putting "Evil" into "Evil Geniuses" is exactly done by realising that someone that helped build you up is now more of a liability and releasing them. Props to EG for making the easy hard decision.
Calling people names over the internet isn't "evil", it's just being a twat.
Overall looks like a good move by Mr Garfield. I still would have preferred a short EG promo of Idra literally shitting in fans mouths before firing him.

EG, as we know it today, was built, in no small part, on the back of Greg's renown and results during the early days of SC2. And this is how Alex Garfield chose to show his gratitude? It's a cut-throat world.
I would say he showed his gratitude by giving him many, many chances to not do this exact thing over the last three years. Unfortunately, Greg stepped over the line one too many times.

The community puts way too much focus on the "entertainment"-side of a player and as soon as someone does something slightly questionable he gets hated so badly for it. For example the ddos incident with stephano shows how high the hating can peak (its not ordinary, but still very alarming to me). Also, the players you meet in ladder make IdrA look like the politest man in the world. The last "gg" I received was combined with a "fu**er". Plus, i actually dont feel like a part of a community. We play the same game, but I dont feel a "together" at all. Could be a personal thing though. The last point I want to mention is viewers on streams, being the community. The chats of a large number of streams reflects a massive immaturity, being filled with trolls and offending people, not representing that much of a support to esports. So I think IdrA criticizing the community is a good move to me, cause he's one of the few ones that mentions that without fearing to lose money cause a part of that "community" could stop "supporting" esports by bringing money to the companies. I hope he gets a new team that at least in some way still believes in the spirit of esports, not the spirit of money. Cause thats the impression I got from EG the last months and finally with this act. So let me finish this post with a final example of how grown up the community is. ( I hope the picture is fine, please delete if someone has a problem with it )
i think people who post like this must be living inside a bubble. every community is exactly the same as this. whether its other games like lol, or 'real sports' like basketball or football, or even cultlike brands like apple vs microsoft. the only difference is this is the community you are involved in so you get to see it.
this is nothing specific to starcraft, people are people are people, nothing ever changes.

It's a cut-throat world. Dunno what you are talking about. Maybe he was the best foreginer in bw, but the foreign bw scene was incredibly weak. And then he did decently in the sc2 beta, when competition was still similarly low. But once sc2 became bigger and competition started to get real he became irrelevant.

I met Idra a long long time ago at a SCI tournament up in Connecticut and I actually had the honor of sitting next to him. He was the nicest guy at the whole tournament and helped coach me to a few wins.
I wish the best for you Idra, I have always been a fan and I am sure you will find success in whatever you chose to pursue next.

About time imo! Never liked the guy, acted like a dick and never had the results to back up the bm amd cockyness

One of those moments where you realize EG became EG because of the Gracken butnow that EG has grown up they have no more need for hiim and toss him aside, that's how I'm reading this.

Back then he came fresh from a several year long period on a Kespa-team, and while he was still getting banned every now and then from TL due to his BM and stuff, there was still hope for him behaving in a somewhat professional manner.
I highly doubt any team out there cares if he BMs or not as long as he has the results to back it up. Idra hasn't won anything of note since that IEM and can't even be considered top 10 foreigner right now.

I thought Machine would of went first.

Haha even when he goes all out rage even after getting fired and saying that "nope you're all a bunch of fucks it just so happens i get paid to treat you like it. it's fucking awesome. " He basically says that you the "fangirls" that support him by being who he is are a " bunch of fucks " and you still go EG sux go idra. HAHA seriously

Good, Idra is a terrible person in general. He doesn't do anything to help the e-sports community.(Besides put on good matches.) I have always hated how terrible he treats the SC community. Always bad mouthing lower level players and anyone who isn't pro doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as him isn't entertaining. I would never cheer for EG to win because Idra was on there team. Now maybe I can enjoy some EG matches. Idra is the worst pro gamer on the planet and needs to retire.
|
Shitting all over Idra in the release notice was unnecessary and makes Garfield look like a child (why say you value Idra as a person and then proceed to impugn his character?). Saying "we're letting Idra go, it was a difficult decision, the end" would have been the right way to go in this situation.

absolutely the right decision, he was given plenty of chances to embrace a less hostile attitude. if anyone in a real sport dissed all the fans of their sport like that, i would assume they would lose their position as well. you have to realize esports, like real sports, are in the public eye. as a professional player, what you say and do matters.
bravo, alex. i hope Evil Geniuses continues to strive for team success through values. i have always admired the way you run your team. in the long run, this will only make EG stronger. all the best of luck to you guys.

Except cutting a throat doesn't take three years, and nobody knows how many non-public conversations and warnings there were. Loyalty is a mutual thing, no?
