And arguably a top 10 SC2 player in general. Prior to him joining EG, their roster consisted of inControl, LzGamer, InkA, StrifeCro and axSlav. Enough said. EG, as we know it today, was built, in no small part, on the back of Greg's renown and results during the early days of SC2. And this is how Alex Garfield chose to show his gratitude? It's a cut-throat world. Alex Garfield is a businessman. Nothing you said is incorrect, but people don't keep their jobs because they used to do a good job, and for good reason. Enough people in this world coast along as it is. There is something to be said for allowing a person to get back on track instead of firing them as soon as they show poor performance, but IdrA has had a poor showing in both competition and personality for years now. What exactly was he bringing to the team anymore? In the real world, you don't get paid a fat salary because of something you used to be able to do well. To be successful you have to keep improving and keep innovating, and IdrA clearly didn't care enough anymore. The decision makes sense, and it doesn't make people cynical for seeing that. IdrA was the de facto best foreigner in the world 2 years ago. That's a long time for most industries and it is eons for the esports industry.

For example the ddos incident with stephano shows how high the hating can peak (its not ordinary, but still very alarming to me). Also, the players you meet in ladder make IdrA look like the politest man in the world. The last "gg" I received was combined with a "fu**er". Plus, i actually dont feel like a part of a community. We play the same game, but I dont feel a "together" at all. Could be a personal thing though. The last point I want to mention is viewers on streams, being the community. The chats of a large number of streams reflects a massive immaturity, being filled with trolls and offending people, not representing that much of a support to esports. So I think IdrA criticizing the community is a good move to me, cause he's one of the few ones that mentions that without fearing to lose money cause a part of that "community" could stop "supporting" esports by bringing money to the companies. I hope he gets a new team that at least in some way still believes in the spirit of esports, not the spirit of money. Cause thats the impression I got from EG the last months and finally with this act. So let me finish this post with a final example of how grown up the community is. ( I hope the picture is fine, please delete if someone has a problem with it ) ![]() Leauge of Legends is your example of a "grown" community? Wow, just wow. Yeah I'm not sure whether to laugh or not. League of Legends community is a subreddit which is about 50x times more toxic then TL then include the players inside the game. On-topic: I actually really believed this thread was a troll even after reading the OP. Man was I shocked I think you misunderstood. I'm pretty sure that picture is intended to illustrate the problems with the community, not its successes. Of course, it's a different game and a different scene, so it's wholly beside the point. Still. He's not holding the LoL community up on a pedestal; rather, he's using them as an example of what not to do. Yeah I might have misunderstood it, if so im sorry for that Just FYI - it's the red lights in the shape of "something". (Top right of picture) I shat bricks... yet not very surprising though the finest of shit kids

I have always hated how terrible he treats the SC community. Always bad mouthing lower level players and anyone who isn't pro doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as him isn't entertaining. I would never cheer for EG to win because Idra was on there team. Now maybe I can enjoy some EG matches. Idra is the worst pro gamer on the planet and needs to retire. So you posted some BM bullshit on another account and got banned. That should have been the que to stop making such silly posts

It's a cut-throat world. Hear hear. Whatever IdrA's shortcomings, you don't publicly chastise someone who has been a long time partner. That only makes EG look bad. There is currently no reason why to be a fan of EG unlike, for example, Kespa teams, or Liquid, or IM. It's a collection of players who were hired when they were at their peak that brought their own fan base. Those fans will also leave when the players leave. I'll take a quick bet that the next player to get "released" for "not being EG enough" is Stephano (who just isn't playing as well as before) who will be released for saying something that is very Stephano but it's actually EGs usually MO of rotating through the most popular players.

I'm surprised he wasn't booted any sooner to be honest. He was always disrespectful, but people saw this as a persona and were entertained by it rather than offended that he had not a single grain of respect for the community. This type of attitude won't get you far in life, although he seems to have been extremely lucky to get this far with it.

You cannot insult an entire fanbase and by doing so give your team a reputation of intentionally encouraging bad behavior to make money all in the same post. Idra has said a lot of shit I disagree with over the years, but what he said in those posts was directly damaging to EG's reputation. I don't think they had a choice but to release him over it.
