I think most people would agree with you about kicking someone when they're down, but we're talking about Idra, someone who has benefited at the expense of other people's feelings whenever possible - he's made a very wealthy living doing so. Greg doesn't need sympathy or pity, he's made a lot of money, he'll continue to make a lot of money, and I doubt he cares about anyone's feelings about this because he seemingly lacks basic empathy. He's made a lot of money in eSports terms, no doubt, but saying that he's made a "very wealthy living" off BW and SC2 is going a bit far ... Greg has been a wealthy salary relative to other Starcraft II players, relative to other gamers, even relative to the average American worker. Greg's salary is very high. How much was his monthly salary from EG? Incontrol on SOTG said he didn't want to say how much Idra made, but he said he would 'ballpark it' and then gave the example of a contract of $4,000 - $6,000 a money. He said that about money Idra would be asking from other teams now that he's let go from EG. And that a team wouldn't pay Idra that amount of money just to sit at home and stream, but they might pay him that amount of money to go to Korea and actually be a professional player with actual responsibilities. Which he has pretty much shown he's no longer interested in. Some team might be crazy enough to pick him up but not at that price.

So this sounds like an excuse. If the relationship between IdrA and EG wasn't working, then you should provide the genuine reason. Granted, there is more information being released on SotG. No one cared about that comment until the Polt games. Waxangel made it happen. ;p Or maybe they told him that if ever he left a game early they would fire him. I am answering jalstar, because Waxangel was who brought the quote to the WCS LR + Show Spoiler + I am just kidding of course.
Waxangel is capable.
He is a very... capable man.

You would get along well with IdrA with that shitty sense of humor and disrespectful attitude

Not mutually exclusive though both would be appreciated

what a backstab. i've lost all respect for EG as an organization, and alex garfield as a person. if anyone associated with EG had any self-respect, they'd break all ties in protest.
until then, EG deserves all the failure they get. have fun at the bottom of ProLeague.

I tried my best to like Idra, but I just couldn't get past his attitude. There's bluntness, and there's being an arrogant jerk. Idra always seemed to be placed firmly in the latter and relished being able to get away with it. The people who defended him always completely baffled me, and still do.
To be honest, my respect for EG has actually just grown dramatically. IdrA was a professional, and I feel that his childish attitude was a detriment to the legitimacy of esports as a whole. He seemed to treat it as "I never chose to be this figurehead for starcraft, I just wanted to play" which is damn fine by me, but when you're accepting money from the community to pay for your passion, there are some standards you should hold yourself to.

Love it. The decision was overdue

I was watching yesterday with so much expectation and nerves...I am Terran, but like foreigners and was cheering for Idra and was so excited and happy to see him perform SO DAMN WELL in game 1...Finally he did the most horrible thing you could ever imagine...I felt so so so sad and thought: "this guy dont care about the game and the community and all the support he got, being so BM. Why EG still pay him?" I thought of the Stephanos punishment before, but this now is incredible. As the Good Ol´Tychus said:
"HELL,ITS ABOUT TIME!!"
He deserved it. It seems he was looking exactly for this. With words like "fuck this game" I dont understand what is he doing trying to be a Progamer.I am so happy they reléase him. He must know, he is part of a TEAM. You can be the best player and win 500 GSL, but being so disrespectfull is totally unforgivebale. Hope no team in SC2 would ever make the mistake to sign a contract with such a guy.
Poll: Did IdrA deserve this?Hell, its about time (337) 66% No.Only some minor punishment (83) 16% Yes, but its maybe too much (53) 10% Absolutly NO.They must understand the way he is (37) 7% 510 total votes Your vote: Did IdrA deserve this? (Vote): Hell, its about time (Vote): Yes, but its maybe too much (Vote): No.Only some minor punishment (Vote): Absolutly NO.They must understand the way he is

He was one of the guys who introduced me to Starcraft, and Ive been his biggest fan since, so its tough to see this happen. Kind of like watching your favorite athlete grow old and retire. Makes you realize how things change and how old your getting. I remember watching him and Jinro when they were the best, and now that seems like forever ago. I hope this is a place for him to start turning his career around, but his personality just doesnt have me holding my breath. Hopefully im wrong. Whatever you do Greg, Good Luck and Have Fun. bw followers went through this stage many times and i can tell you this is the greatest/enlightening/refreshing "retirement" story i've ever heard. well if youre not a fan of his than im sure it is

If I were IdrA, I would take a several month break from SC2 and go see a shrink.

Bad move for EG
I didn't watch Idra's stream but for a lot of non American players, he was the most famous american player.
|
Did I just read that it was because of his words and how addresses the community? Is that what it means? I mean its one thing that his play fell off soe they're removing him to get a bit more salary back into their pool but because of how he presents himself is how I read it, can anyone clarify?

I don't follow SC2 anymore, but I am sure that sometime in the future, if I ever look back to those days that I really cared about this game and its competitive scene, IdrA will be one of those players that will put a smile in my face. I've been a longtime IdrA fan for a long time and I have never felt like I regretted it.
I did not care about his results or his behaviour, he simply made the game entertaining for me ever since I first saw him playing in the HDH Beta Tournament vs WhiteRa. This is really sad for me to read it because of that and I wish him good luck in whatever he chooses to do after this development.

Respect this decision from EG.

Sad to see him go
Best of luck for him in the future!

Honestly I feel like Greg needs something like this to change his attitude. It's almost like EG was enabling him. He has been getting by on his reputation for a long time now. I know he's capable and I wouldn't be surprised to see him inspired and change his attitude and start playing like a champ again like he was so long ago.
