Better to make the current top players popular than giving has-beens free passes into the spotlight just because they'll get more viewers in the short term.

It's easier and faster to make current top players popular by having them beat popular "has-beens" than if they beat another relatively unknown player.

Uh I was agreeing with him about invites? I know the qualification is laddering... Not sure where you misread my post but I said this is a good thing and that he SHOULDN'T do invites by fan votes or anything. I don't know where you got I was complaining about it please re-read my post about what I was thanking him for. I didnt' even try to ladder on NA much because I played mainly on kr and when this was announced I didn't have enough time due to work/school to attempt it. I hope they do a ladder thing again this season or qualifiers either work for me (assuming this happens again). Either way I am definitely going to ladder more on NA this season as last season I just did enough to keep me GM ^_^.

I've always found it pretty interesting just how many Asian-Americans are top tier at SC in NA, especially compared to a lot of other ethnicities.

And now when we get a tournament for top NA players people are complaining because they don't know them. That kind of shows you how Koreans are ruining NA scene.

That would destroy the pupose of the tournament and AM would continue to follow around people who are not the best in their region anymore, like they are doing too much already anyways.

I know they were restricted by time to get it starting, but I would have liked to see less invites and more players through qualifiers (even if they did like a points system from the qualifiers like TSL). Thanks for making such a cool tournament, TotalBiscuit.

Yeah, I don't think the idea that using celebrity for immediate results is controversial. The more interesting discussion is about what kind of content is best for the future.

You can't create a healthy scene in the long term if the community wants their drama favorites to show up, it might be good for making money on TV, but it's catastrophic for a competitive environment. The community is entitled to their own favorites, but deciding tournament rosters for something deeply based on skill is just wrong on so many levels I cannot even begin to think about. What's next, kicking players out of tournaments they qualify for because community can vote out a player? Leave this kind of crap for crappy reality TV shows. If you want to see has-beens get beaten by random/new/upcoming players then there are some streams that you can find that offer what you want.
