It's actually a smart in leveling the playing field by having them compete in other regions lol. They will still take over MLG weekends and other such events.

Q: Why only have three regions?
Mike Morhaime: looking at expanding in the future, but have to start somewhere. starting in most mature three regions.

Screw moving, just play with the lag and go to the LANs when you win. Any Korean not in GSL presently should do this if they have the funding to go to the MLG or whatever event is hosting.

TeamLiquid @TeamLiquidnet 2m A: Top five players from each region will play in each seasonal final, +1 more player from the hosting region.
Really? The koreans who are so greatly better than the foreigners and more so have more good players than everywhere else combined only get 5 spots, equal to the much weaker regions? Im all for foreigner only infrastructure but that is pure robbery.

Q: Clarify the challenger league format, and more info on prize money please.
Chae: Code A/Up-down format is the same, just named 'challenger league'. Same in the OSL run season as well. A: About $1.6million overall prize money, which is 3x what was given out last year.

2013 GSL Season 4 won't be a part of WCS.

As far as DreamHack not being part of WCS, I think its good to have outlier tournaments still around as events that don't fit into this big tournament. We need independent tourneys. So much of StarCraft's story is the homegrown nature of the scene.
Dammit, wheat just asked my question.

Surely Korean domination played a role in this new format. If its anything like BW or ends up that way, the 5000th best Korean is still as good if not better than the best non Korean, so the format ends up mainly benefiting Koreans... I hope I'm missing something here, and it's not just people under estimating just how many Koreans are better than non Koreans.
I think their play might go down if they do that, but hey they should still be heavy favorites in those regions but when it comes to the finals I think they might get slaughtered.

Another way to think about it if you're still confused is uh...
Basically the GSL is expanding. Instead of just having the "Korean GSL" we know and love, we're getting a North American GSL and a European GSL. These are run by MLG and IEM, respectively, like how GOM runs the GSL.
Presumably, the NA-GSL and EU-GSL will have the same format as KR-GSL. So we'll actually have an American Code A, American S, European Code A, and European Code S. Though they're actually called 'Challenger' and 'Premiere' instead of A and S, from now on.
GSL-KR, GSL-NA and GSL-EU will all run a season at the same time which ends at the same time. So the Code S / Premiere final for NA, EU and KR will be all on the same weekend, pretty much.
The results from these three regional GSLs are then used for a "GSL World" season final. The Code S Ro4 from each region, for example, battling it out to see who is the world champion for that season.
Then everything repeats for Season 2 and Season 3. And yes, Code A / Challenger and Code S / Premiere works the same way as the Code A and Code S we're all familiar with, even in NA and EU. There will even be up & downs!
Oh and the GSL/OSL are working together, sharing a schedule and working collectively as 'WCS KR'. "GSL American" is 'WCS NA'. and "GSL European" is 'WCS EU'.

That's true. Always some exceptions to the rule. Got to admit Violet did put on a good show.

So this leaves Koreans on MVP, FXO, ST, Azubu and Axiom that could actually do this. Or maybe NSHS players will try and just forfeit the spot if they get to the lan and just pocket the online prize money.
edit* and Zombie quantic.

I see alot of Azubu players moving around the world in the near future.

Just force all koreans to play in that region even if they live in the US or somewhere else. Its not unfair at all the system is made to make it fair.
