good man

Can I officially announce that an announcement announcing an announcement has been announced? Or has Slasher already scooped me?

+ Show Spoiler +
And shouldn't there be an announcement that perhaps Geoff "inControl" Robinson will be announcing that EG will be announcing that they congratulate Liquid on successfully announcing the announcement?

More on topic to this thread - hopefully this isn't a build up to Hearthstone league play televised by OGN. Maybe a licensing deal between GSL and OGN - or structuring a complete single scene for Korea including GSL (single player league), Proleague (set player team league), and GSTL (all-kill format team league), with GOM, Kespa, IEM, and OGN, all drinking the kool-aid, singing kumbaya, and uniting under the beneficent gaze of Mike Morhaim - after sacrificing sufficient rocks to please Dustin Browder.
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

Thats actually not true. People want to see foreigners play Koreans not foreigners play other foreigners. If you actually read the LRs during foreigner vs foreigner matches it's literally a cesspool of hate towards the player's skill levels.

To be honest, that may still happen. Consider that the language used was that the player picks the region they lock into for the year. If I'm a Code B or floundering Code A Korean player, why wouldn't I pick NA as my region and mop the floor with everyone?

This could turn out more interesting than people think.

well i highly doubt it will work that way. every non code s korean would pick a region other than korea. would be incredibly dumb.

To me it sounds like you need to sign up for a regional circuit "license" or something. I would imagine the requirement would be that you just have to get yourself to maybe "x" number of events or they keep some kind of security deposit? Not win, just compete in person. That could be a very risky and expensive proposition depending on how the pay outs are set. Especially if part of the prize are "points" towards competing in bigger events.

While it may seem to some of you(not the majority) like watching Koreans slay Foreigners and then seeing KvK top16
That is not the best way to attract viewers, while skill may bring in the "try hard" viewers, most people like having some sort of "connection" between them and the TV screen.

What is true with MOST koreans, they dont have any personality and all they have to offer is their level of skill, and the average viewer is not a good player(meaning diamond and below), which means actually can't tell point out who is doing what better(but a good guess would be the korean). So is the average person coming for skill? No they want to be entertained.

How does the average viewer get entertainment value from a SC2 match? Connection with the player.

People like watching personalities and thats the truth, the LoL community is really based on the personality of the players not the actual skill level.
TSM is the least "skilled" pro team(in terms of results vs koreans) but they have one hell of a following more than any korean team could dream of.

I constantly see someone like ROOTCatZ beating Jaedong on viewers when streaming.
Why? Because he's a personality and people rather watch someone they like and have a connection with.

Why does Stephano v anyone bring in the most amount of viewers (almost) every single time?
Why do teams pick up diamond-mid masters female players? Because they usually have a big following and can be good source of personality.

Esports is just another marketing strategy, if you have not noticed yet, it only exist and will continue to exist if it can bring in a good ROI.

So does letting koreans rape(lets be honest here) foreingers promote good ROI?
No, if people want "the hardcore learning skill" games they will go watch the koreans.
But most people enjoy a game where IdrA is on stage vs Cruncher and is smack talking him.

They want to be entertained and at the same time see a good game(which foreigners can pull off well)
while they have some connection with them.

I like the step blizzard is taking, and its the BEST option if they want this game to survive past post-expansion hype.

If youre butt hurt that you wont see the highest quality games, we know where to find the KvK games(which will be some sort of GSL/OSL/etc) but youre a minority. Also why dont you have some trust in our damn foreigners. If you can't beat them then you can always learn from them.

Does this mean we wont see Koreans at any foreign event? Doubt it there are alot of Koreans on foreign teams now, and also im sure theyll make some global tournament where top players from each "LCS:" will play

my 2 cents.

New information about the 4/3 announcement on FOMOS!

This just appears on FOMOS's front page.

http://fomos.kr/board/board.php?mode=read&keyno=131151&db=issue

The news basically confirms TorteDeLini's information about the individual leagues. There will be GSL and OSL, and the results in two leagues are going to be counted as points toward WCS at Blizzcon.

But in this news, there are more information about the team leagues.

It says:

"Many people were worried that Blizzard focuses too much on individual league but abandons the team leagues. And people have expressed concerns that Blizzard left out KESPA, especially SPL.

Blizzard responded that first the amount of the money being paid to the Korean related parties is incorrect; second, the negotiation is among Blizzard, OGN, GOMTV, KESPA. No one is left out. All parties have made compromises in order to produce more entertaining leagues. Some of the reports are simply wrong because if team leagues are left out, the negotiation will not reach a final term. 'We are negotiating with the relevant parties of GSTL and SPL. I hope people don't misunderstand again, everything will be on April 3rd.'"

Idk. I think that's a perfectly reasonable thing to say. Wanting your favorite player on your favorite team is a natural fan reaction. Don't take things so seriously. I too would like Life to stay on ST if I was in his position. It's not like he would stop being a fan of Life if he switched teams, he would just prefer Life stay.

I feel like the people saying things like "only foreigner (aka white) players have personality" and mentioning how players want a "connection with their players" are predominately Europeans. I say this because their countries are far more homogenous than the US and Canada are and so have little personal contact with peoples like the Koreans. I know that over here we have lots of mixed populations with Asians including a lot of Koreans. For us we watch the Koreans not just because they are the best players, but because they also have interesting personalities. A region lock might be great for the EU people, but it will be terrible for the NA scene.

i wish people would stop saying foreigners have so much more personality than Koreans.

first off, everybody has a personality. if anything, foreigners have an easier time showing it due to language and culture. but also, most foreigners don't show much personality either tbh, and quite a few Koreans do.

anyways, i don't see how that announcement - if it is anywhere near what is actually going to happen - could possibly be a bad thing. you can still watch Koreans play Koreans in Korean tournaments, and some will probably participate in NA or EU region, plus the global playoffs. at the same time, something like this should help foreigners develop more skill. ideally, there would be more of a league format in NA and EU as well, but that is of course much more difficult and costly to set up than in Korea.

It doesn't take a GM player to see that Life vs Last was a much higher quality and more entertaining game than Thorzain vs Killer. People like seeing non stop pockets of aggression everywhere along the map, not afk macro till 50 minutes then death ball vs death ball. There's a reason why the general consensus is that Hots is a much more spectator friendly game than WoL.

Doubt it there are alot of Koreans on foreign teams now, and also im sure theyll make some global tournament where top players from each "LCS:" will play

my 2 cents.

How the hell do you know what people like to see?
