Now I wonder how that new overarching Blizzard sanctioned league will be named, please let it not be Blizzard Star League. WCS is not that great either.

Yeah, it sounds really reasonable and a good way have "regions" without forcing people to stay in an area. I am excited if that is correct and what the WCS will be structured as.

I liked Blizzard World Cup. I would also accept Blizzard Tournament of Champions(BTC).

Some IPL people are going to Blizzard to help create a sort of regionalized LCS/WCS-style thing.
Axiom sad because they thought (read: falsely) they couldn't travel to foreigner events (which is [potentially] wrong) or vice-versa. To note that there is talk of "region-locking" tournaments, but it's just all speculation.
OSL/GSL/GSTL/KeSPA PL are not dying (maybe Proleague, doubt it).
WCS NA combined with MLG for NA, WCS KR combined for GSL (so they're attaching themselves), WCS EU for DH. Think of it similar to how EVO works in that regional major tournaments contribute points to a WCS sort of thing/seedings into a grand finals idea.
NASL feeds into NA, IEM feeds into EU.
Essentially, this will create a storyline idea where all tournaments are consistent with seeded competitors have backgrounds of "overcoming" their opponent (probably at Blizzcon).
Too much power struggle in SC2 (Korea & USA), Blizzard aims to lace them all up into relevancy and combine audiences to strengthen the scene (my interpretation).
Several WCS within the year (seasons) - several weeks per season. If you choose a region, you have to play in that region for a year (you can choose other regions if you don't want to play in your region, but you are "locked" in your region (associate this with the Axiom thing))
Blizzard is going to announce that GSL and OSL are now 'partners'. Both will have three Starleagues a year, the same as it was when it was MSL and OSL. Blizzard will pay OGN and GOM about 2 million a year for working together. GSL champion gets seeded into the next OSL season. Same with OSL and GSL.
I talked to a few people close/in Blizzard and they want to go the Riot route. Have everything more connected. Instead of 40 tournaments and 600 different organizations, they want to have more regional play and to crown an actual world champion at the end of the year.
Take this with a grain of salt, but I heard through the grapevine that Red Bull might pay Life $200,000 a year to stay with ST. They also might change their name to Red Bull or Red Bull Stars.
Says CJ might offer life 200k when his contract is up and that redbull might match it. Also says polt is getting 3k/month from cooler master. Other interesting things too if you keep reading farther back into his post history.
The funniest thing though is he says he wants to keep his identity hidden, but doesn't really do things to keep it hidden since he cites specific examples of meeting people and stuff. Such as a time at work when he said one of his co-workers asked him if he was leaking things and then he said he was forced to lie and told people to stop posting his stuff on tl/reddit. Well then all it would take is for that co-worker to read that post and put two and two together.
I figured that was what they were going to do regardless but this doesn't really address what they want to do with the Korean scene and that's what this thread is supposedly about. o;
yeah it feels better now. WCS now becomes the only circuit with GSL/IEM/DH/MLG serving as ranking-events. OSL stays out of the tour, being some kind of The Masters in snooker, non-ranking but prestigious.

I'm concerned about the whole region thing in relation to the major tournaments... will these WCS things work as side events so we have NA players playing a side tournament while the koreans are taking all the prize money from MLG still, or is MLG itself to become the WCS event?
If all this stuff about Life/ST is true then it can't be anything but good. I'd love to see Red Bull take the title sponsorship of Startale, if only so that another eSF team is financially stable.
As for the rest, some of this looks really good for stabilizing the scene and promoting SC2 in Korea, but I'm really not sure how I feel about the region lock thing. It really depends on how they pull it off. That said, if Koreans can't play at MLG's or DH's then I probably won't watch. It's already at a bad time for me, I'm not going to screw my sleep schedule for anything but the highest level of skill.

Reason why the foreigners in Korea are mad is because they are going to can GSTL after this season and Axiom-Acer isn't making the cut for the new Proleague coming in the fall. Startale, IM, MVP, and FXO will go to Proleague 100%. Dunno about Prime. HoSeo and Axiom-Acer not invited.

Basically a better version of WCS that takes into count big regional tournaments and the finals being played in a big stadium.

I hear ya bro. I don't watch tournaments without koreans and don't really watch euro tourneys because they have very few high level koreans. MLG/IPL were the best foreign tourneys to watch by far.
I'm also not really into the WCS tourney that much. The final WCS tourney had all the hype/prestige due their 100k first, but the actual games and competition level there was a farce. Parting won it by beating only 1 korean and that was in the finals. That tourney wasn't even close to being as difficult as an MLG/IPL, but because it had a 100k first attached to it, people went nuts for it.
However, there's already enough GSL for me to watch, but I do enjoy seeing koreans play in foreign events. However, with the disbandment of IPL, I was only left with 4 MLGs this year to see koreans in foreign tournaments, so I hope they don't force MLG to go regional, which would suck.

I think the region-locking is harmful beyond Koreans. EU and NA players also have strong fanbases across the Atlantic, and it would be a total shame if a disruptive region-locking policy caged them into their respective regions. It would also be a shame if region-locking also prevented foreigners from trying out in the Korean leagues.
David Ting'd better do a good job a structuring this, but if he does I don't see a problem.
We're gonna hear lots of complaints from people in the sc2 scene who are against region-locking in the following days. I'm happy Blizz intervenes because those guys are delusional, wanting foreigners to compete but not be rewarded for being the best in their region just because most koreans are just better is nonsense. Long-term, this would be the death of the foreign scene and BW all over again.
Everything doesn't need to be region locked, but we need some.
