OK, I spoke with Blizzard. Under embargo on the main announcements, but the bad rumors appear to be incorrect interpretations of fact

So sounds like rumours and innuendo got translated from English into Korean and back to English, badly, and a bunch of people got their panties twisted in a knot prematurely. That's FUD for you.

The reality is probably more like Kespa, GomTV and Blizzard will announce some form of increased collaboration (which is why Rain got his code S seed), tied together with Blizzard finding some way to throw more money at foreigners in a desperate bid to ensure SC2 has more than one playable race.

Times have changed since then. By now everybody knows that from a competitive aspect tournaments without Koreans are very low level.

Yea I don't want to hear "X foreigner only won because koreans wern't there."

Why? Every time a European hockey team wins its because the NHL pros from NA were not there? You do realize that most NA teams in professional sports(excluding soccer) could mop the floor with any other team in the world. Does that stop them from having their own leagues? Do people not watch college football, claiming, “Well there are no NFL players so these kids are jokes.” There are soccer teams for tons of countries and only some are top tier.

NA teams are good but they can't MOP THE FLOOR with ANY other team in the world IN ALL SPORTS excluding soccer. Come on I wanna see where is merica's curling team winning championships left and right...

He said North America. Canada's curling team does win championships left and right. Whenever they don't get Gold at the Olympics or Worlds it's a huge upset. (Yes, I realize the Scandinavian countries usually do pretty well and so do a few Asian countries recently.) In Canada at least, our curling teams are expected to win gold.

EDIT: I don't necessarily agree with the comment that I appear to be defending, just saying that maybe curling isn't the best example. Rugby, perhaps? Or cricket?

if I might jump in while those sports might not be dominated by the NA most of those sports do in fact have a country or part of the world that do dominate them. and it doesn't stop people from other parts having a league of their own without people saying what a joke that (insert dominate region) aren't there.

so why must people take that attitude in sc2 I don't understand it though I guess it's not going to change so maybe I should just accept it.

Torte de Lini just posted this on reddit:

Some IPL people are going to Blizzard to help create a sort of regionalized LCS/WCS-style thing.

Axiom sad because they thought (read: falsely) they couldn't travel to foreigner events (which is [potentially] wrong) or vice-versa. To note that there is talk of "region-locking" tournaments, but it's just all speculation.

OSL/GSL/GSTL/KeSPA PL are not dying (maybe Proleague, doubt it).

WCS NA combined with MLG for NA, WCS KR combined for GSL (so they're attaching themselves), WCS EU for DH. Think of it similar to how EVO works in that regional major tournaments contribute points to a WCS sort of thing/seedings into a grand finals idea.

NASL feeds into NA, IEM feeds into EU.

Essentially, this will create a storyline idea where all tournaments are consistent with seeded competitors have backgrounds of "overcoming" their opponent (probably at Blizzcon).

Too much power struggle in SC2 (Korea & USA), Blizzard aims to lace them all up into relevancy and combine audiences to strengthen the scene (my interpretation).

Several WCS within the year (seasons) - several weeks per season. If you choose a region, you have to play in that region for a year (you can choose other regions if you don't want to play in your region, but you are "locked" in your region (associate this with the Axiom thing))

As long as these weaker leagues are actually smaller in prestige and prize money everything is ok. But MLG has the aspiration to be one of the biggest, most prestigious, highest price money, most stream viewers tournaments in the world. And that simply wouldn't fly without the best players.

Some more leaked "rumors"

Blizzard is going to announce that GSL and OSL are now 'partners'. Both will have three Starleagues a year, the same as it was when it was MSL and OSL. Blizzard will pay OGN and GOM about 2 million a year for working together. GSL champion gets seeded into the next OSL season. Same with OSL and GSL.

I talked to a few people close/in Blizzard and they want to go the Riot route. Have everything more connected. Instead of 40 tournaments and 600 different organizations, they want to have more regional play and to crown an actual world champion at the end of the year.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I heard through the grapevine that Red Bull might pay Life $200,000 a year to stay with ST. They also might change their name to Red Bull or Red Bull Stars.

http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1b0icp/anonymous_person_leaks_blizzards_plans_on_4chans/

They're from a certain imageboard, so they should be taken with a big grain of salt, about the size of a moon.

eh I don't see it I certainly wouldn't be complaining if some other league in say Europe had a bigger payoff for basketball players then the nba regardless if the nba would dominate them if they ever played.

It's interesting to read the past posts from that 4chan insider.

http://archive.foolz.us/vg/search/tripcode/!GKS1zrZdfk/page/1/

Says CJ might offer life 200k when his contract is up and that redbull might match it. Also says polt is getting 3k/month from cooler master. Other interesting things too if you keep reading farther back into his post history.

The funniest thing though is he says he wants to keep his identity hidden, but doesn't really do things to keep it hidden since he cites specific examples of meeting people and stuff. Such as a time at work when he said one of his co-workers asked him if he was leaking things and then he said he was forced to lie and told people to stop posting his stuff on tl/reddit. Well then all it would take is for that co-worker to read that post and put two and two together.

It would be surprising for KeSPA not to go after him once the trade ban ends. I think most people expect KeSPA teams to go after most of the younger talented players once that time rolls around.
