Am I the only one who thinks this seems a little bit weird? No you aren't alone. This is really strange...

Definitely not a "F*ck the GSL and eSF" move by Rain, he probably wanted to play abroad. In the history of the GSL, I believe only four players have forfeited Code S. Idra, Rain, Coca and Rain. Coca was forced to forfeit. Didn't Violet and (kind of) Thorzain forfeit very recently?

WTF, Rain had a better shot at winning GSL than MLG and it has more prestige and a bigger prize pool. Damn
As long as he doesn't give up WCS finals, I'll be fine.

Huh? Staying in the GSL is actually economically a bad decision, travelling the world and taking foreign events gets you the purse--look at MC. The only reason you would want to play GSL is during the downtime while you practice. If your a world class player, the RATIONAL perspective is to view GSL as a glorified off season while the rest of the year you travel and pocket thousands in front of large crowds. Uhh because Rain doesn't plan to travel to a ton of foreign tournaments like MC due to the MLG/Kespa partnership. Uhh clearly he does given he just left in preference to MLG.
it sounds like you aren't aware of the exclusivity deal

Whole thing is weird. Accelerated code S schedule to hit IPL makes everything tighter and harder to reschedule, first and foremost. Secondly there are/were 3 groups with no dallas attendees (B, E, F) that could have been switched around if GOM had been notified earlier.
It could have just been a serious miscommunication issue between the parties involved (SKT wasn't initially aware/notified correctly of the accelerated code s schedule this season) or KESPA found an easy out and took it with their big money man (odd considering he was definitely the favorite to take it all, and showing off the kespa big dog on the ESF's home turf would be a pretty big statement).

I don't know what to say. I'm hoping this decision is largely based on curiosity rather than KESPA forcing him to attend.
This just looks bad for everyone except GOM.

Well, he better win MLG now.

First thought after seeing Gom's statement: YoDa hears the news, and says, "I can get a free elimination of RAIN (!!) if I 'have something going on' on another day? Bingo!"

1st time I was so hype on a PvZ match since DRG vs Genius, so sad this happened

Why did Terran Rain forfeit his spot? Was it because of a similar schedule conflict issue or was it something else? It sounds like this was simply a schedule conflict GOM couldn't manage to resolve, and not anything malicious by either party.

Or at least it would be hilarious if that happened.

They forfeited Up/Down spots, which are a crap shoot to get through. Idra, Rain, and Rain are the only ones to have Code S in their possession and forfeit by their own will.

I hope he gets knocked out in the open bracket.

I guess GSL doesn't mean that much to Rain, he already has a OSL may as well go see some foreign tournaments.
Still sad there wasn't a way around this tt

This MLG is gonna be hype! The Kespa Dallas Gambit, can Rain come home in honor or in infamy?

Thing is, if Rain really wanted to go to MLG Dallas, why didn't he inform anyone sooner? It's just weird. Do you think he woke up one morning, saw a cowboy hat outside his window, and went, 'Damn, I really wanna go to Dallas now!' If he wanted to play in the open bracket so badly, he could have told GOM a few days before and probably switched his group to one of the last. I'm curious if Polt asked for his group to be early or late so he could go to MLG or if it just worked out that way.

The thing is, if this is a Kespa decision, why did it take so long to decide? His attendance was literally just confirmed yesterday. They knew Rain didn't qualify in the MvP. And they didn't list MLG on his tournament list. They could have just said he was going to MLG sooner.
Not sure why some people are so out for drama though. Rain hasn't had the chance to play for the foreign fans (excluding China at WCS Asia). This will be his last chance to do so until next year. And he has a GREAT chance at winning MLG. I know Kespa does some shady shit, but I think its a bit much to pin this on some Kespa vs GOM shit. If anything, they want him to win GSL because it makes their players look even better.
