It's my understanding that LoL players get even less than many SC2 players, (not counting the exceptions that win a big tournament). This MLG had a 20,000 first place prize for their LoL tourney, and thats split among a whole team. A lot of people seem not to take into the account that a team winning 100,000 is actually a team winning 20,000 each where in SC2 when you win, it's up to the contract ot mandate but usually, for non-koreans, it's fully prize money So a 100,000 tournament for SC2 vs a 500,000 tournament for LoL is relatively the same when distributing the prize across 5 players.
and some teams have more than 5 players, you can't ignore your backups!

I couldn't care less for any of this puny tournaments . When the hell will Proleague and the next OSL start , does anyone know ?

What's better for the scene/your average player, a single, massive and top-heavy prize pool or several smaller prize pools with more equal distribution? Here's a hint: most poker professionals don't make their living playing the WSOP main event.

So much for that. Rain failed to get a top placement at MLG, and now he has fallen to Code B by losing to an unknown Terran. At least he can still play in the next OSL . . .

Sorry to put on my tinfoil hat, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made him throw his games... He played like complete horseshit. Dream did play very well though. Maybe it was just an offday for Rain.

How would Rain or kespa or skt1 benefit at all from throwing his matches. Take off your tinfoil hat!

Either way, the decision to forfeit code S is looking really bad right now. Now he will have to wait for a long time just to be able to qualify for code A

Thats what I was thinking. This is the rundown of what happened
- *in a KeSPA backroom* let's have Rain go against those losers at MLG, he will no doubt win and also cause harm to the GOM franchise by not participating, thus showing that MLG is more important!
- Gets his butt kicked at MLG way before the final 4

- *in a KeSPA backroom* Drat! He will surely not lose to some no name terran and drop to code B!
- Gets beaten by a terran and drops to code B

|
Yea it doesn't make sense for Kespa to make him forfeit if Another Kespa player will just make round of 4.

Maybe it was just an offday for Rain. Maybe, if he won MLG and WCS. Given by his status currently though (good, but not good enough to say GSL needs him), I would say it's probably an off day. Or who knows, Creator stole his soul.

MLG Dallas was the most premier and hardest tournament to date (missing only maybe MVP, but he's not in optimal condition right now) and Rain finished JUST before the final 4. That is by no means a failure.
Edit: lol @ the responses to this post... Code A was harder than MLG Dallas? There were fewer top GSL players at MLG than... GSL? ...ok...

If he just stayed in Code S rather than take a gamble (silly one at that), he would have a much greater chance of success.

What reason would a player throw a ro48 match? sounds pretty silly to me

It's not funny though, it's really sad for rain. He has such potential, and gets thrown into the political games like this.
Yeah, it's the MLG-KeSPA partnership. It's literally ruining eSports! But seriously, I remember reading the interview with the MLG guys after the KeSPA partnership... There was nothing but aggression towards GSL/GOM in that interview.
They used the "they didn't give Naniwa Code S" as the excuse but it wasn't GOM's fault that happened. It was the internet. I remember a lot of people (specifically Korean netizens) were outraged at what happened with Naniwa, they basically forced GOM (at least PR wise) to not give Naniwa his Code S seed.
Anyway, as for why that matters - Obviously MLG wants an incentive for players to play in their tournament as opposed to others. GOM giving a Code S seed was one of those benefits. With Naniwa though, the benefit was taken, so in a way it's sort of GOM going back on their deal.
But that's a silly reason because:
1. Everyone knew that Naniwa lost Code S seed because of the probe rush. Obviously, if GOM offered Code S seeds for MLG in the future, they'll get it... as long as they don't probe rush in a serious tournament.
2. GOM has fulfilled their Code S promise prior to the Naniwa incident.
3. Again, the netizens basically forced (PR wise) GOM to punish Naniwa. Taking his Code S seed was one of the punishments.
tl;dr - It's not Rain's fault. KeSPA and MLG are trying to hog all their players when it would be a benefit for everyone if they (KeSPA players) participated in as much tournaments as possible.
Honestly, GSL is already one of the top tournaments. OSL was a big thing in BW but not in SC2. If it weren't for Rain (and other KeSPA players) being hyped in the GSL, I probably wouldn't care for the OSL or the KeSPA players that much.

Agreed. Though, I actually wonder if they could have really told GOM in advance and if Rain had the ability to play both in MLG and GSL.
The problem was that they told GOM like 2-3 days before the event. If they told GOM earlier, then there might have been a higher chance for Rain to play in both tournaments.
At least they're allowing Bogus/Innovation to own it up in the GSL... for now...
