Yeah, in 2 weeks nobody's going to remember who Rain is. That's logical.

That's logical. well, if you mention MLG Fall Champs next year, the biggest storylines probably will be NaNiwa vs. Flash Life vs. Leenock Rain forfeiting
So they will probably remember Rain and MLG, but probably not for the reasons he wants

If you win in a dominating fashion. Or do something spectacular. Rain was just another good Korean in terms of performance and was simply crushed by Bomber. That move did backfire and boy am I glad it did. Kespa wanted to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by removing their "best" player from the GSL (to hurt viewership) and have him win the MLG (and by extension raise viewership to their league where that "best" player currently plays).
Yes, it's all business but his withdrawal must be viewed as not being thoughtful about the viewers. I almost feel it offended me personally, because Rain would have made the GSL competition much more fierce and possibly much more dramatic. They saw that and decided to purposefully sabotage GSL. They just made sure I'll never watch the OSL again, as a matter of principle.

You guys are reading waaay too much into this

End of the day it is his choice which tournament he plays in. Yes, he made a mistake not notifying Gom earlier so that his match could be rescheduled, everybody makes mistakes. But to assume that his actions were sabotage without knowing the facts is so crazy.

I don't really see what is left to discuss about this. We don't know if he made this decision or not so there isn't much point speculating without actually knowing the real story.

And what comes to esports, if he was a LoL player that figure would be at least ten-fold. Are you kidding? Where are you getting this information from? It's my understanding that LoL players get even less than many SC2 players, (not counting the exceptions that win a big tournament). This MLG had a 20,000 first place prize for their LoL tourney, and thats split among a whole team.
A lot of people seem not to take into the account that a team winning 100,000 is actually a team winning 20,000 each where in SC2 when you win, it's up to the contract ot mandate but usually, for non-koreans, it's fully prize money
So a 100,000 tournament for SC2 vs a 500,000 tournament for LoL is relatively the same when distributing the prize across 5 players.

It's because of Blizzard. If they pull all the players out of GSL, Blizz will ban OSL. That was probably the original threat that made KeSPA sent players to GSL 4 anyways. Remember, the first party to break the news after the stand off was neither eSF or KeSPA. It was Blizzard.

your point? it's once per year, the amount of money going into sc2 prize pools per year eclipses that of every other game atm

Yes starcraft II is definitely better to make money off of. If you don't win Riot's tourney you are screwed as a team unless you make salaries which I am not sure any LoL teams do.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Rain's performing extremely well, and he's essentially just started his SC2 career. Yes, he took a risk by going to MLG instead of staying in the GSL, but there are more potential rewards to that than just possibly making money (which he did do, by the way- probably just as much as he'd make in the GSL this season). The ability for foreign exposure and traveling is something that many Koreans don't have the ability to do, plus there's a lot more money outside of Korea for SC2 than inside of Korea (many big tournaments, more frequent chances for cash, prize pools that trickle down to more spots, etc.). Seeing as how he was arguably the second most popular Kespa player at MLG that weekend (after Flash) and he performed incredibly well, I can see him being invited to multiple foreign tournaments in the future, giving him more options as a professional (which is a good thing). Hopefully Kespa isn't abusing their power over him too much, but I think overall, it was probably a great experience for Rain and he realized that even though the GSL is the premier tournament, there might be times when he wants to travel to foreign tournaments. He's a great player regardless, and he's going to show great results wherever he goes (and will be remembered for his accomplishments, wherever they are).

Nice conspiracy theory bro. But maybe hold off on jumping to dramatic sweeping conclusions until you have something more than mere assumptions. I know there wouldn't be any drama involved in that but I think you can manage to wait until the next big drama story.
