if i were blizzard, my reaction to seeing the lol s2 finals:

1. fire esports team
2. quadruple their budget
3. hire teamliquid people as new team

just because LoL has more viewers doesn't mean sc2 will die. Just because The International had over half a million people watching (half were from China btw) doesn't mean sc2 will die.

Some games will be bigger than others, drastically bigger. But that doesn't mean other games won't exist. Look at pro sports. NFL dwarfs anything else in the United states. Yet there are still other sports doing well.

And right now, these sales companies are coming in and spending on sc2, while Riot is the one completely funding LoL and Valve is pushing Dota 2. SC2 has more independent sponsors than both. To suggest that its dying is ridiculous. SC2 is standing on its own a hell of a lot more than LoL and Dota 2.

Was it not just a month ago when the WCS EU had 100k concurrent viewers?

SC2 is a batter game than BW, which was no fun at all, imo. I like being able to actually see what I'm clicking and have stuff respond and path well. This is just more BW elitism.

Although BW's issues (well obviously, made in 1998) are quite apparent to people who didn't play it in it's prime, you can't simply call a game better because it handles well. Indeed SC2 handles tremendously well, but it's too bad for most of the games existence that there has been bitching about everything from no LAN to Balance. To this day I feel i'm getting no reward out of playing because I play Zerg concurrently, and a game where I beat a better player and it means nothing, or lose to a worse player and get discouraged is not good. I'd rather have a competitive, balanced game that is fun too than an easy to use average game any day. Although going back to playing Brood War it does hurt my hands just to play and most current gamers wouldn't appreciate that and that's understandable haha.

It's too bad the majority doesn't feel the same way considering the success of League of Legends (although I haven't actually PLAYED it before, all I know is i'm told it's easy to use control-wise and the 'easiest' Moba).

Also can't help but feel you are just flame baiting, especially since you said 'batter'

Something is wrong for sure. Blizzard needs to come down off their pedestal and join the community.

They just feel so distant right now, like they are separate from everything that's going on.

This, coupled with the fact that Blizzard had made it basically impossible to play custom games with their retarded popularity system, is the reason that all the 15 friends that I encouraged to buy SC2 at launch quit playing the game almost instantly. I told them it would be so fucking awesome to play custom games just like we did in BW, but NO, WE CANNOT HAVE FUN BECAUSE BLIZZARD WANTS TO IMPLEMENT A SYSTEM SO THEY CAN MAKE MONEY OFF OF MAPS. And according to Blizzard, this is "what the map makers want"

At the very least given bnet 1.0 a facelift rather than create bnet 2.0 that pales in comparison to its predecessor.

Destiny made great points. After SC2 was released in such a shitty format, I lost all hope from Blizzard. It was essentially clear from release, SC2 would never be successful without large alterations. Sadly, required changes have yet to come and I doubtfully ever will. It's no surprise that listening to the user-base correlates to success, as shown by Dota 2 and LOL.

Feels like that out of Blizzards 3 games SC2 is the one that is getting neglected the most.

it's quite obvious how much certain companies care about the game. valve has a dev forum for dota2 and they do read the social sites and stuff and updates their games and functions according to what the community is asking for... and this game is just a beta atm.

Yea, for sure. In interviews, I've seen Puppey and many other players continuously praise valve for listening to player input as well as being fans of the game. On the other hand, I've never seen players give anything but complaints when talking about David Kim/Browder.

To be honest, I've had this in my head for awhile as the new, real elephant in the room. Glad a post like this was made, and hope it doesn't disappear uneventfully.

Custom games/clan/chat channel system were the HUGE draws for casual players, and Blizzard managed to screw that up with Battle.net 1.0...if only they had kept b.net 1.0. If given the choice with the games as they are right now, I would still prefer WC3 customs to SC2 customs, despite it being 7 years older.

Well spoken, each and every one of you.

I, along with around 22 of my friends in highschool purchased SC2 two years ago at release. However, over the course of 4 months 19 of those friends LEFT for League of Legends. Now they play League and DOTA2.

It has been very disappointing to me to see all my friends leave, and never give the game a second chance. However, after asking many of them why they left, the answer is always the same. At first, they scoot around it, but as I press them they end up confessing that the game just was NOT interesting.

That StarCraft 2 is not accessible.

We have, (many of us) held this opinion since the game came out. It has been restated again and again. As much as I prefer to avoid it, (I think we all do, not b/c we do not care, but because we have given up) it needs to be addressed. Here's an idea that I had.

TO CATZ:

I have heard rumours that there is a secret pro-only forum for SC2. Would you not consider getting as many of your buddies as you can to write letters of complaints similiar to Destiny's and posting them there? Just mass posting them?

If this is not true then whatever. Your twitter idea is good too...

To any major tournaments....would you not consider getting viewers to trend tweets calling for improving the game? This is a big issue.

The disconnect between Blizz and the competitive community is going to be the downfall for sure. The fact that we still have shitty map spawn positions and no supply depots on the bottom of ramps in ladder maps is inexcusable 2+ years after launch.

Well, someone has to make the maps. And unlike 5-10 years ago, SC2 needs to compete with the multitudes of other game development platforms out there for the developer's interests. Custom maps are a relic of the brood war era that you can't recreate in this day and age as is. Relatively easy monetary incentive the only big win that Blizzard can make for their system versus the others.

I think Destiny doesn't understand the concept of markets. There are games that suit casual players like LoL, and there are games that suit competitive players like SC2. Just because LoL may be more popular doesn't mean there's anything wrong with SC2 being competitive.

It's like how fast food joints are way more popular than steakhouses. That doesn't mean steakhouses should be more like fast food joints.

One thing i think is very important is that there are no competitors in the rts genre for sc2. Competition is very important for creative development because they can 'steal' the good parts from the competitor. Also a direct competitor in the market means that one of the companies can't slack off or they will be out of the market. But the part about development is really important because now you only have the starcraft developers and its playerbase instead of multiple developers with different opnions on how the an rts should play. And because there is only one team in the genre the rts game design stagnates. Which is why everyone is angry.

Sc2 was designed specifically for e-sports. It was made to be a competitive game for competitive gamers. It has made a huge impact on e-sports, but that was with the gamers that were already there. The new audience trying to be attracted to e-sports is going to be 95% casual and 5% competitive. LoL is an extremely casual friendly game so it's going to blossom as e-sports grows while sc2 fades in the background. I feel it will still be around for a while but it's one of those things where it has a pretty set player base that will only diminish over time.

Most people played BW for UMS. That was it's success for casual gamers. SC2 has nothing for casual gamers. The arcade system is complete garbage. Never once since sc2 was released have custom games made any impact. The game is solely about 1v1 and ladder, which doesn't appeal to casual gamers.

I would happily wait another year or so for a better game. WoL is going fine right now and isn't going to die in the next 2 years. Instead of releasing a shitty expansion now I would be quite happy to wait and play WoL in the meantime. I don't understand when it's blizzards full time jobs to make a game over 2 years this is the best they can come up with??
