This 'reddetization' of gaming comunities is the reason I don't really follow SC2 anymore. The whole scene and comunity is just so childish, thinking everything is a joke and there's no consequences to any actions.

Same could be said about any actual sport, I don't understand the demographic argument, people do realize that it's not a mark of maturity to defend stephano and rage at EG right? It's with in EG's rights as a private company to do what they want with in the contractual means, just as Stephano is free to choose which ever team he wants to go to in a competitive market, this isn't you talking with Stephano in a private environment and you giving your opinion on whether or not you would be personally offended by a joke.

Is the SC2 community schizophrenic? You want SC2 to be taken seriously and to "grow esports" then you shun any degree of professionalism the next day simply because your favorite insert player / team is being affected. I can't number the times that a professional athlete / team / manager and even secondary staff and coaches have been scrutinized and penalized from leagues, pay rolls, or team contracts due to badly phrased public statements or private statements that were subsequently leaked due to stupidity. And no it doesn't matter what country you are in, it's going to happen if there is any degree of professionalism or sponsorship behind it.

The sc2 community is made of XXXXX persons having their own opinions and values, there is no intellectual orthodoxy as far as I know. I, for example, couldn't care less about sc2 being taken "seriously" lol.

starcraft is not an actual sport.

also, in esports we should be able to laugh at this, not pretend it's a big deal.

honestly thought people were better than this, lol.

The sponsors do, though. The moment which SC had sponsors, it was already mainstream. This happened 10 years ago.

What really matters for EG is the fact that they have to represent sponsors. When a contracted player says stuff like that and it gets leaked, regardless of whether it's a joke or not, it reflects poorly on EG.

I make alot of over the top jokes in my private life, but i have no problem understanding EG. It seems to me that there's alot of people in this community who doesn't like the consequences that comes with Esports trying to move towards the mainstram market.

Wherever big business is involved you'll see that a certain social conduct is expected. I dont think Stephano is a bad person for making a bad joke. But lets say this was something a big sportstar said, you might very well have had the front page of your national newspaper read "X sportstar admits to sexual abuse of underage teenager" the next morning. That may not be true, that may be twisting the words of that said star and that may be leaving some information out on purpose. Still, thats how publicity and the media works.
Now Esports is smaller than that, but i'd say the sponsors still has the same thought process. Thats not the kind of attention they want.

I'm getting really annoyed by the SCII community, and I really don't want to be. A really shitty joke that accidentally got out caused more than 60 pages of comments and a 1 month suspension on the joker. Wow. I don't understand why people in this community have to make such big deals over things that either trivial, or aren't any of their business. Just because you see a picture or hear about something happening between people doesn't make it your personal business; it doesn't make it your God-given obligation to message sponsors or try to get someone fucked over.

I really don't want people to get fucked by people messaging sponsors when it is completely unnecessary. I have to wonder, would it be better if we messaged sponsors every time someone said something immature or something bad happened, or if it would be better to not bother them with utter nonsense such as this. Do sponsors want to join a community where everyone runs around acting like a 14 year old brat? NOPE. Do sponsors want to join a community where every time something remotely bad happens they're getting messaged? ALSO NOPE. So what's the solution? I dunno, but it isn't to message sponsors every time an immature 20 year old acts like an immature 20 year old!!

K NEED TO COOL DOWN NOW.

Well. All that great gaming gear and technology that backs this whole operation are run by some of the largest professional conglomerates. Isn't a professional gamer a professional? I don't see any argument that questions the legitimacy of EG's contract with Stephano, or that this decision penalizes or breaches workers rights / disadvantages him unfairly. So as far as I'm concerned it's completely justified, I don't have to like something to know that it is lawful and professional.

Stephano can, according to law, be convicted as a sexual offender. This is a big deal everywhere, or do you live somewhere were it is commonplace?

is it really illegal in other countries ?
here the partens are pissed but nothing they could do, after 14 you can f**k whoever you want

Apparently it's a pretty big deal in America, land of the free.

Personally over here leagal age is 16, but yeah 14 is definitely legal in some places and not all that terrible that people make it out to be.

Why is this an age of consent argument? You don't need to make an unlawful statement for it to be unprofessional or against your contractual obligations. If you sign up as a professional gamer you are essentially working your ass off in the down time but you are being paid hundreds of thousands to put on a public performance. So as a public figure you need to realize the gravity of your actions, as many professional / collegiate athletes competing in broadcast-ed competitions who still attend high school / college have been capable of doing. It's actually in Stephano's own interest to have a positive image in the community and appeal to the right audiences.

I am ok with the punishment, it serves Stephano well. What i am not ok with is not caring about Idra jokes at all. Rape is a horrible thing, it doesnt matter if You are child or an adult, rape is one the most horrible thing that can happen to You. Idra is on same level as Stephano.

This is damage control. Everybody with a fucking brain knows he was making a joke, the joke was fucking retarded but a joke nontheless. This is them saying that they wont tolerate shit to their sponsors, and showing their professionalism. Totally understandable, sucks for Steph tho, hope he learns.

He should've at least checked if Bling was streaming -______-

If you are an useless frustrated individual who doesn't have any power over anything and anyone in your life emailing SC2 sponsors over stupid shit to punish someone for no reason will sure make you feel better. Scumbags just need to be purged with fire.
